About this property

Church House - Onetangi Sea Views and Spa

Summary:

Set above Onetangi Beach with wide sea views, Church House is a calm, contemporary home designed for relaxed island living. With generous decks, a spa pool, and flexible spaces for families or groups, it offers an easy base for unhurried days by the sea.

The Space:

Perched above Onetangi Beach, Church House is a light filled, contemporary retreat designed to connect indoor living with its coastal setting. Cedar tones, natural light, and open spaces give the home a calm, grounded feel, with sea views stretching out from most rooms.

The main living area is open and airy, combining a modern kitchen, dining space, and comfortable lounge that flow naturally toward the deck. Large glass doors open the space to the outdoors, bringing in fresh air and coastal light. A gas fireplace and underfloor heating keep the home comfortable through the cooler months.

Outdoor living is spread across several decks, offering both sun and shade throughout the day. A spa pool overlooks the bay, and the barbecue area works well for long lunches or relaxed evenings outside.

The upper level holds the master bedroom with its own ensuite and panoramic coastal views. Two additional bedrooms are located on the main level and share a full bathroom, each finished simply for comfort and rest. A second living area on the lower level provides extra space for families or groups who prefer room to spread out.

Church House is designed for slow, easy stays, where mornings start with a swim below the house and evenings finish quietly with the sea just beyond the glass.

The Neighborhood:

Church House sits above Onetangi Beach in an elevated, peaceful position with the coastline stretching out below. Onetangi is one of Waiheke’s longest beaches and works well for swimming, morning walks along the sand, and relaxed afternoons by the water.

At the far end of the beach, Three Seven Two offers modern coastal dining in a relaxed setting, while Charlie Farley’s sits directly across from the sand and is a popular spot for casual meals, good coffee, and easy afternoons that drift into evening.

Just inland is Vineyard Valley, home to Stonyridge, Tantalus Estate, Te Motu, and Wild on Waiheke, all known for tastings and long lunches among the vines. The Heke is also nearby, combining craft beer, spirits, and hearty food with a lively outdoor garden setting.

Groceries and everyday essentials are close by in Ostend, and Oneroa Village is a short drive away for boutiques, galleries, and dining by the water.

Getting Around:

Getting around from Church House is straightforward. The Matiatia passenger ferry terminal is around a fifteen minute drive. Local bus services run regularly from Onetangi Beach, stopping near wineries before continuing through Oneroa Village and on to the ferry terminal.

Taxis, hire cars, and e bikes are available across the island, and off street parking is available at the property.

Other Things to Note:

Waiheke Island relies entirely on rainwater tanks for its water supply. To support sustainable living on the island and help protect local resources, we ask guests to be mindful of their water use, especially during the drier summer months.

The property was perfect for a family holiday

The property was even better than the photos. The view and outside spaces were incredible. 5 minute walk to the beach down Jacobs ladder. The house was set up with games and puzzles for our daughter, swing, trampoline and monkey bars. She said she never wanted to leave! The house was clean and well appointed. We will definately return.

The Church house is a gorgeous character home, with a stunning view over Onetangi Beach.

The Church house is a gorgeous character home, with a stunning view over Onetangi Beach. We stayed there over our wedding weekend with our 1 year old. There was plenty of room for him to play inside while the weather wasn’t great, and a trampoline and swing which he loved being on once the sun came out. Despite the age of the house it is very warm and has a good heating system if required during the colder months. Would definitely stay here again.
