We are the proud custodians (kaitiaki) of this iconic 1930s bach from WWII era when there was a surveillance base at the end of our street. Ahu holds a an incredible location overlooking the ocean horizon all the way to the north. Easy level access straight to the front door perches you on the spot for awesome long sunsets over a glass of wine. Stroll to the Mercer Bay cliffs to catch the green flash at sunset. Check the surf to plan your day or simply turn left or right at the gate and you are on the world-famous Hillary Trail. A 5 minute drive downhill takes you to Piha with shop, eateries, art gallery, and of course the beach. A 5 minute drive in the opposite direction gets you to karekare, a beach made famous in numerous films. Or take a 30 minute downhill track to Karekare Beach and explore remote Whatipu beyond. Ahu is blessed by its location close to the Mercer Bay Loop which leads to Comans Track and Karekare. Ahu is exposed to big weather so expect wild winds with occasional powercuts. Ahu is a rustic original 1930s bach so expect a variety of insects and birds in the immediate environment. No additional guests in tents or caravans No smoking or vaping indoors
Please note that Piha is on tank water so water conservation in place Septic tank means you can not dispose of sanitary items via plumbing No washing machine, closest laundromat Henderson Valley Rd

Such a gorgeous spot, the view was absolutely amazing! The cottage had everything we needed, was very private and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Hosts were very accommodating, we were able to check out a bit later so we could enjoy our stay a bit longer before catching our flight. Did the Karekare hike at the end of the road, scenery was breathtaking. We will be back!
Awesome spot to chill and enjoy the view, or the surrounding walks and beaches. Easy check-in, and everything you need is provided. Thank You guys, was a great weekend getaway!

It was mine and the girlfriends first time staying at a book a batch and they had provided an excellent time there, the view was amazing and the house itself was extremely cozy and nice!
Everything was so easy and relaxing from arrival to packing up again. Beautiful ocean views and the close by walks were superb. Thanks to friendly hosts, we will be back
It is not a fancy place, but homey and peaceful with everything we need for a relaxing weekend. The view is stunning. I love the bed in the alcove and being wake up by the sun... wish I could live there. My son and I have a wonderful time. Thank you for sharing this place with us!
Visiting family in Auckland (from Ireland) over Christmas and New Year, we wanted a quiet few days by ourselves to recharge the batteries and couldn’t have found a better spot. Loved the views, the nearby hiking, and the beach. Great communication from hosts. Thank you!
Have spent many a holiday in this area and it was wonderful to return to old haunts and relive the past with my grandchild. Stunning location, the West Coast of NZ has a raw energy which is exhilarating.

We are outdoors enthusiasts, particularly fond of remote locations and exploring via ocean, trail, or cycle. It is our privilege to share a little of this potential with guests
Why they chose this property
We are proud custodians (kaitiaki) of this very special location on the wild west coast of Auckland. In particular we are keen to preserve the quirks of this iconic kiwi bach, originally known as Clarke's bach (1937)
What makes this property unique
This is the real deal, just with indoor toilet/shower and modern cooking and comforts! It also has very easy access off the road which is hard to find in the Piha area. Ahu is the perfect base for exploring trails to the left or right. You might even see the green flash at sunset
