About the host
Hosted by Ian and Lesley

Lesley emigrated from England in 1970, and by chance met Ian who was her landlord for a short time. They married in 1973, and lived in Unionville with their two sons.
Ian had loved cottage life in northern Quebec, where he grew up, and wanted the same experience for his family, They were downhill skiers and bought the land on Lake Vernon in 1981, camped on it for 5 years during warmer months, and when the tents started to leak, decided in 1986, to build a cottage.
They moved overseas in 1989 for Ian to set up the emergency medicine program at the first medical school in the Sultanate of Oman and returned permanently to Canada in 2005, when they built the apartment wing that is now rented out short or long term.
Besides caring for the property their current hobbies include curling, golf, book club, bridge, hiking, cooking and socialising.
They adopted a wonderful golden rescue lab in 2014 and Robbie gives all the guests a friendly welcome.

Why they chose this property
Lake Vernon is the most pristine and uncrowded of the Huntsville lakes, yet the Town of Huntsville is accessible from our bay in 15 minutes by motor boat or car. The property offers easy access to every winter and summer sport, and 40 miles of boating is possible around all four adjoining lakes.
Huntsville is a lovely little town on the water, with a multitude of activities, and dining experiences, and has an increasingly vibrant art scene, with artists’ and studio tours.
Of international renown is Algonquin Park, and Arrowhead Provincial Park is only 15 minutes away. Hiking is a four season activity here and there are numerous golf courses.
What first attracted us to our property was the magnificent mixed deciduous forests, and these and the hills and lake are what we see from the apartment.

What makes this property unique
The property is unique in being the only one on this sheltered west end of the lake that has such a wide expanse of shoreline (450’) with tableland and a shallow sandy beach.
