About this property
The Cow Cottage - semi-rural peaceful idyll, 10 mins to Napier. Fab location.
Welcome to The Cow Cottage. This is the bigger cottage of The Cow & Calf Cottages. The Calf Cottage is its sister cottage also available to book. The Cow Cottage has a spacious open plan lounge with Smart TV and comfy couches. There is a fully fitted and well kitted out kitchen as well as a table for eating at. There are 2 separate bedrooms: the first with a double bed and the second with 2 singles (PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE SMALL SINGLES AND MEASURE 183cm x 65cm). There is a bathroom with shower.
The Cow has decking around it, so you can sit outside and look at the spectacular view opposite during the day and the night sky once dark. There is minimal light pollution, and we sometimes get to see the Milky Way. There is an outside area for picnics/ dining. The Cow is fully fenced and away from the main house. There is also ample off-road parking.
Our other 1 bed cottage The Calf, is within the same fenced area. The outside picnic / dining area is shared.
The views from The Cow are incredible ... just look at the photos. Although we are just 10 minutes' drive from Napier, and 15 minutes' drive from both Napier airport and Hastings, we are semi-rural and it is very peaceful here. You really get the best of both worlds!
We are situated right by the Puketapu Cycle track which is part of the Hawkes Bay Trails- https://www.hbtrails.nz/ride-our-trails/trail-map/ - So, if you're here to cycle, you can set off straight from your cottage. We have secure storage for bikes (please arrange your own insurance though).
We are situated only 1 min drive to Shed 530 Bistro & Winery https://shed530.com/ one of the many fantastic wineries in the region & the Puketapu Pub & dairy are within walking distance too. The river is 5 mins walk away, so easy to cool off in the summer.
Whether you're here to cycle the tracks, explore the wineries and local beaches, go Art Deco or simply relax, we are brilliantly positioned for you.

About the host
Hosted by Nicky
We have lived in Puketapu for over 13 years and love it here. We enjoy spending time at home, trying to grow fruit and vegetables, going for bike rides and walks on the cycle/walking track by our house. We have 2 dogs, Cassie and Mabel, who love to bask in the sun, play in the river and eat any windfall fruit! You are welcome to come and see our dogs if you are a dog lover. Nicky's passion is Dragon Boating and Jasen is into scooters. We love being able to share our lovely place with visitors, so you can also enjoy rural Napier, without being far from town!
Why they chose this property
The weather is great, the scenery from our property is fantastic and we are so well positioned being near both Napier and Hastings. We are a hop, skip and a jump away from our local bistro/winery Shed 530, and the Puketapu Pub is just down the road... both a minute away in the car if that. The river is a few minutes' walk away, and we like to cool off in it during the summer. We love it here.
What makes this property unique
The Cow is a fantastic place to stop for a short or long break. As well as being a really great space inside, our position is what makes us special. We are directly opposite a lovely lake where you could see swans, ducks and myriad other birdlife. Sheep graze all round the lake which has a backdrop of beautiful hills and trees...the colours are stunning in the autumn. We walk out onto the cycle/walking track from our house where you can cycle into Taradale and even Marine Parade in Napier and beyond.
It is peaceful with hardly any light pollution and we sometimes see the Milky Way.
All this, and only 3 minutes' drive to Taradale, 10 minutes to Napier and 15 to Hastings.
