About this property

An Unforgettable View

About the space

Fifty minutes after leaving Melbourne, you’re on the deck with a glass of local pinot, watching the sun drop behind the vines and hills.

At night the stars are incredible – perfect for setting up your camera on a tripod to capture the sky, sunsets and sunrises from the property. Or keep it simple and relax in one of the many quiet spots around the farm, soaking up the peace and serenity and listening to the sounds of nature. You can even borrow our easel, find your own favourite outlook and paint a scene to take home with you.

This is An Unforgettable View – a new two-bedroom retreat on our small rescue farm in Dixons Creek, looking straight out over nearby vineyards, rolling hills and the dam below.

Stay in comfort, then step outside for the kind of country touches that can’t be faked.

In the morning you’ll wake to soft light over the valley, kangaroos in the distance and the odd rooster in the background – plus the donkeys, horse and other rescue animals on our property, all lovingly cared for and always excited to be patted and fed carrots or Weet-Bix by our guests.

Right on the doorstep are world-class wineries, boutique cellar doors, wedding venues, the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie, Healesville Sanctuary, gin distilleries, short and long walks, bike paths and some lovely shopping spots in Healesville and Yarra Glen. Many places are just a short walk, bike ride or drive away. Bikes are supplied for your enjoyment too – just let us know in advance how many you require.

Come for a special weekend, or a slow week where you cook, read, wander the vines and feel a long way from the city – without spending half the day in the car.

What you’ll love

Big, open views over vines, hills and the dam – from the deck, the lounge and the bath

A proper house, not a cabin: two bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchen and wood fire

Rescue farm on your doorstep – donkeys, horse, sheep, chickens, ducks and more

Walk or short drive to wineries; 10 mins to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie

Around 50–60 minutes from Melbourne, but it feels like another world

The space

Living & kitchen

Open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge designed for slow mornings and long evenings

Wood fire heater for winter stays, with comfy sofa and chairs to curl up in

Well-equipped kitchen with cooktop, oven, full-size fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster and everything you need for simple meals and cheese platters

Dining table with seating for shared breakfasts and local takeaway dinners

Bedrooms

Master bedroom with queen bed, quality linen and big front-facing window over the dam and hills

Second bedroom with queen bed and outlook to the paddocks and hills beyond – ideal for another couple, teenagers or a child

Fresh carpet underfoot and plenty of storage for longer stays

Bathrooms

Main bathroom with a bath positioned by the window – soak while watching the sunset over the paddocks and vines

Walk-in shower, vanity and toilet

Ensuite off the master bedroom with shower, vanity and toilet

Fluffy towels and basic toiletries provided

Outdoors

Front and rear decks with seating, perfect for morning coffee or evening wines as hot-air balloons drift over the valley on clear days

Access to our farm area (with us) to meet and feed the rescue animals

Space to breathe, wander and watch the light change across the vines

Farm & animal experience

This is a working rescue farm. During your stay, by arrangement, you can:

Meet and feed the donkeys and horse

Visit the sheep, chickens and ducks (and soon, a rescue pig)

Collect freshly laid eggs for breakfast when available

Guests often say this is the highlight of their trip – kids and adults alike.

Location & nearby

You’re in Dixons Creek, in the heart of the Yarra Valley:

Several wineries within walking distance, bike ride or a very short drive

Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery – ~10 minutes by car

Healesville Sanctuary – ~18 minutes by car

Yarra Glen village with cafes, pub and shops – a few minutes away

Hot-air ballooning, bushwalks and scenic drives all close by

We’re happy to share suggestions for wineries, restaurants and things to do based on what you enjoy – long lunches, cellar doors, family-friendly stops or something a bit more romantic.

Perfect for

Couples wanting a special weekend or mini-moon

Friends’ escape with good wine and slow mornings

Small families who want nature, animals and space to run around

Wedding guests attending nearby Yarra Valley venues

If you love the idea of saying “yes” to the city during the week and “no” to it on Friday afternoon, this place is for you.

Good to know

You’ll be staying on the same property as our home and our tiny house, but your house and decks are private, with views out to the vines and hills

This is a farm stay – you may hear animals, tractors in the distance and early-morning roosters

No parties or big events

Strictly no pets (we have free-roaming rescue animals on the property)

We recommend a car; rideshares/Ubers can be limited in the valley at night, though by arrangement we can sometimes drive and pick you up from nearby events for a fee

A bottle of local wine from our friends at Corniola Vineyard and Cellar Door is provided as a welcome gesture

By arrangement (48 hours’ notice), we can have a fruit, wine and cheese platter waiting on arrival at an extra cost

If you’re celebrating a special occasion, we can also set up a “Happy Birthday” or engagement helium balloon in a special spot along with chocolates and a cake if required

About the host

Hosted by Vicki

Host profile image
Hi, we’re Vicki & Pete. We live on a small rescue farm in Dixons Creek and we love sharing this patch of the Yarra Valley with guests who want to slow down and reset. Most days for us involve caring for the animals, enjoying the view (it never gets old), and pointing people toward the best cellar doors, long lunches, walks and little local gems. We host with the aim of making your stay easy, peaceful, and genuinely memorable.

Why they chose this property

We chose Dixons Creek for the calm and the closeness to everything people come to the Yarra Valley for: vineyards, rolling hills, wildlife, hot-air balloons, scenic drives, great food and wine, and simple country quiet. You can do a full itinerary of wineries and lunches, or do almost nothing at all and still feel like you’ve had a proper break.

What makes this property unique

The view is the headline — vines, hills and the dam, changing with the light from sunrise to sunset. The night sky is a big one too: clear, dark and perfect for stargazing or setting up a tripod. Add in a proper home (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, wood fire, bath by the window, two decks) on a rescue farm where you can meet the animals by arrangement, collect eggs when available, borrow an easel to paint the outlook, and request bikes to explore nearby country roads.
