About this property
Cosy studio on 10 acres. Pony, wineries, walking trails, beautiful sunsets.
Welcome to Wattle & Wood Studio.
Set on 10 acres of peaceful South Australian bush, Wattle & Wood is a one-bedroom, self-contained granny flat offering a quiet and restorative country escape. Ideal for couples, solo travellers, or small families, the space has been thoughtfully set up to feel calm, comfortable, and like a home away from home.
The flat features a queen bedroom with block-out blinds and a sofa bed in the living area that folds out to a double. A cot, high chair, and baby essentials are available on request. The space is fully equipped with a washing machine, oven, stove, barista-style coffee machine and pod machine, and we provide fresh eggs from our chickens for breakfast.
Surrounded by nature, the property is home to three horses, including our friendly Shetland pony Cookie, who loves a pat. Alpacas live next door, and along the road you may spot sheep, goats, kangaroos, koalas, and kookaburras. Guests enjoy peaceful walks along the quiet main road, with minimal traffic. A longer 30-minute walk to the top of the hill rewards you with stunning sunset views and a sense of being completely immersed in the landscape.
Arrival & Orientation
As you enter the front gate, Wattle & Wood Studio is the first building you will see. The barn is visible from the end of the driveway, adding to the country charm. Access is via a lockbox, with the code sent on the day of arrival along with contact details for myself and my husband, Tom. While the flat is completely private, we are easily contactable by phone if needed. Our home is located at the top of the hill, allowing guests to enjoy peace and privacy while knowing help is close by.
Wattle & Wood is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Gawler and the Gawler Train Station, providing easy access to Adelaide CBD and the airport. The Barossa Valley is a 30-minute drive, Tenefeate Creek Wines is only 5 minutes away, and the newly upgraded One Tree Hill Playground is also just 5 minutes from the property. Para Wirra Conservation Park is a 10-minute drive for those wanting to explore local walking trails and nature.
There is no Wi-Fi, encouraging a slower pace and a genuine break from screens, though mobile reception is generally available. Guests can enjoy board games, colouring-in activities, a TV, and a record player.
A simple, cosy country stay — peaceful, welcoming, and very much like home

About the host
Hosted by Ashleigh Lott
Hi, I’m Ash! My husband Tom and I have just finished bringing Wattle & Wood Studio to life — a project fuelled by equal parts love, coffee, and “just one more trip to Bunnings.”
Tom and I actually met while travelling (he was my Topdeck bus driver!), and we’ve spent years exploring the world and staying in quirky, cosy, and beautifully unique places. Ever since then, I’ve dreamed of creating a little haven of our own for others to enjoy.
Wattle & Wood Studio is that dream come true. We’ve poured our hearts into every detail, and we hope you feel the same warmth and joy staying here as we do. Make yourself at home and enjoy your getaway.

Why they chose this property
What guests love most about staying here is the sense of calm and escape the moment they arrive. The studio is surrounded by beautiful trees, and the quiet is something truly rare. No traffic, no city noise, just nature. Even the drive in feels like part of the experience: a long, winding country road that most people have never heard of, yet looks like it belongs on a postcard.
At night, the sky is incredible. With no light pollution, the stars are bright and clear, creating the perfect backdrop for a peaceful evening.
Wildlife is a huge part of the charm. Our resident magpie, Steve, has been visiting us for years with his friends, and our pony Cookie absolutely loves greeting new guests. A simple walk down the main road often turns into a mini wildlife tour. Alpacas, horses, goats, sheep, and sometimes even koalas, deer, or kangaroos. At the top of the hill, groups of kangaroos often gather, so relaxed around people that they just pause and watch you wander by. It’s a moment guests always remember.
This area offers a genuine country escape. Peaceful, scenic, full of character and wildlife, while still being close enough to enjoy everything the region has to offer. It’s the perfect place to slow down, unwind, and experience something truly unique.
