About this property

Welcome to Gwandalan, a place of rest and calm for families, friends and couples

Above all, Gwandalan is a place to rest — not just physically, but mentally. It’s a space where mornings are unhurried, days unfold naturally, and evenings invite reflection and connection. A place where families gather, couples reconnect, and friends slow down together.

Inspired by the meaning of Gwandalan — rest, peace, a resting place. It’s a lived-in country home, full of warmth, character, and the gentle quirks that come with being close to nature. It’s not a hotel, and it’s not perfect — and that’s part of its beauty.

Here, rest might look like birdsong in the morning, children playing freely on the land, long meals on the balcony, or soaking in the outdoor bath beneath a sky full of stars.

Perfectly positioned in the Byron Bay hinterland, Gwandalan offers the best of both worlds. You’re 22 minutes from Byron Bay, 10 minutes to Bangalow, and 8 minutes to the iconic Eltham Hotel.

If you’re seeking warmth, space, and a slower rhythm, Gwandalan welcomes you.

About the host

Hi, I’m Dani — and together with my partner George, we created Gwandalan House as a place of rest, connection, and calm. What started as our own retreat from busy life has grown into something we love sharing with others who value nature, slowing down, and meaningful time together.

I’m your main point of contact during your stay. We care deeply about this home and the land it sits on, and we hope that care is felt throughout your stay.

Gwandalan isn’t about perfection — it’s about warmth, ease, and creating space to breathe. We truly hope you feel at home here, and that you leave feeling rested, grounded, and a little more connected than when you arrived.

Why they chose this property

We chose this area because it offers a rare balance of peace and possibility. The Byron Bay hinterland has a way of slowing you down the moment you arrive — wide skies, birdsong, rolling green land, and a sense of space that’s hard to find elsewhere. There’s a grounding calm here that makes it easy to breathe, reset, and reconnect.

What we love most is that while Gwandalan feels wonderfully tucked away, you’re never far from life and energy. In minutes you can be in Bangalow for a coffee, at the Eltham Hotel listening to live music, chasing waterfalls, or heading into Byron Bay for the beach, markets, or a long lunch. It’s the kind of place where you can do a lot — or absolutely nothing at all — and both feel equally right.

This area invites you to live a little slower, notice the small things, and enjoy the rhythm of nature, while still having everything you need close by. It’s that balance that made us fall in love with it, and why we chose to make Gwandalan House here.

What makes this property unique

This home isn’t perfect — and that’s exactly why we love it. It’s a rustic country house with character, warmth, and the kind of charm that only comes from being lived in and surrounded by nature. We were drawn to the simplicity of the space and the feeling it gives you the moment you arrive: relaxed, unpolished, and real.

What makes it special isn’t flawless finishes or hotel-style luxury, but the way life unfolds here. Dust on your shoes, fresh air through open doors, birds in the morning, quiet at night. It’s a place where things don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful. The house invites you to slow down, let go of expectations, and enjoy being present — whether that’s sharing meals, watching kids play outside, or doing absolutely nothing at all.

We chose to keep the home true to its setting and spirit. It’s comfortable, welcoming, and full of heart — a place to rest, not impress. And for the right guests, that’s where the magic is.
