While the host was very friendly and helpful of any questions we had, the property was clearly not ready to be stayed in. There was a major health issue in that we found moth balls laying loose under the kitchen sink. The entire house smelled like them (although we found plug-in air fresheners all over trying to mask the smell) and it was affecting our breathing. Upon notifying the host & VRBO of the federal illegality of them, they promptly came to remove them and refunded our entire payment with no further questions.Besides the health concern, there were random holes in the walls, things left partially or completely unpainted, doors & drawers that did not work properly, and things were not cleaned well. The house was in a small neighborhood of about 2 streets and not connected to any other neighborhood or trails on which to walk. On the positive side, they did provide a high chair upon request and a bassinet crib (which was too small for our 18 month old but still available).There should be some kind of vetting by VRBO in the form of an in-person/video inspection walk-through before a property is allowed to be listed and rented.
