About this property

6 Bedrooms and 3 docks on a Lake Hartwell cove, 3 miles from Clemson by water.

We fell in love with this house because it is very secluded, yet close to everything. Roughly 3 miles by boat from Clemson and Death Valley (about six miles by car), and a similar distance to all the big stores in Seneca, directly on a quiet small cove on Lake Hartwell. Serene and peaceful, it boasts over an acre and a half of pristine woodland and is directly across the Keowee River from the Clemson Experimental forest where there will never be houses. There are three docks on property, the largest one with the roof was installed new in July of 2021 and two newer "rollaways" to chase changing water levels. Most of the year, the sun rises directly over the lake and the views from the second story deck, master bedroom, and downstairs bedroom are absolutely spectacular on clear mornings.

The main house was renovated in late 2020 / early 2021 with the removal of popcorn ceilings and old wallpaper, brand new kitchen appliances, huge new TVs (including an 82" 4K in the great room/dining room), front load washer/dryer, new mattresses and linens, dual hood grill, ceiling fans, bathroom fixtures, paint, etc - before putting it on the market for rentals. For most renters, the highlight is the great/dining room with a massive 13' long bespoke oak table and huge windows overlooking the water. The attached screened in gazebo (directly off the breakfast nook, with benches and a large table) is ideal for quiet work, reading, or just sipping wine and listening to the sounds of the woods and the lake at night. Multiple decks with rocking chairs and tables, as well as the fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs make for a great place to relax and catch up with friends and family.

In May of 2021, the upstairs and downstairs of the three level detached garage was professionally renovated to allow for two more bedrooms, a full bathroom, second laundry area, and a kitchenette. Downstairs (below) is a billiards/ entertainment room with 8' oversized Olhausen pool table, huge leather sectional couch, and a massive 85" 4K Samsung TV. In total, the bedrooms are as follows:

1 King Master Bedroom with Bath (upstairs, main house)
1 Queen Bedroom (upstairs, main house)
1 Bedroom with 2 twin beds and 2 trundle pull out twin beds (upstairs, main house)
1 Bedroom with both a King and Queen Bed (downstairs, main house)
1 King Bedroom (new area above garage)
1 Queen Bedroom (new area above garage)

In addition, there is a queen murphy bed in the gameroom (main house) and the foldout sectional in the billiard hall (below garage).

In addition to the three docks on the property, this rental comes with two sit-in kayaks (rated up to 275 lbs), two Stand-Up Paddleboards (adult), several inflatables, and some basic fishing gear for lake exploration (at your own risk, of course). Stand up paddleboards in the quiet of dawn is a nearly religious experience. If you bring your own boat, there is a landing less than 1/2 mile away (at Lawrence Bridge), but you can leave it tied to any the docks.

One negative worth mentioning to everyone is that the property is on an incline to the water, so there are a lot of stairs and the driveway is very steep. If you are unable to negotiate a staircase without a railing, this might not be the best property for you. On one icy occasion (freezing rain), it was completely impassable even with all wheel drive. This is obviously extremely rare for the area, but it is worth mentioning. Please take caution, particularly with the eldery or those who can't traverse stairs.

This house was the ideal spot for a group of friends reuniting for Clemson Homecoming! There was ample space for hang-outs (both inside and out), more than enough bedrooms, and a fabulous view of the lake. The house was the perfect distance from campus and had everything we needed for the weekend. Steve was very kind and super responsive when we had questions about a a later checkout. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Would stay again and recommend to any family member or friend.

Not quite great

Few issues prevented it from being good: WiFi wouldn’t work in the garage building or bedrooms, the garage (which was advertised to be able to park in) was full of clutter and the trash cans hadn’t been emptied from the previous guests, and the kitchen cabinets/drawers needed a full overhaul, organization, and cleaning. Lastly, slow drain (shower) and some mold in downstairs bathroom.

Great location

We enjoyed our time at the home. Plenty of space for our family. Kids enjoyed the lily pad that was there the most. We only used the main doc which had plenty of room for our 2 boats and 2 jet skis. Only thing we would have changed was the dock was all around quite narrower than we were used to so not much room to sit on the dock and watch kids play without being in the way of someone. WiFi was pretty much in and out with our phones the entire time which was a bummer but the TVs worked fine with it. Over all we very much enjoyed the stay and Steve was great to work with and addressed any question we had promptly.

Awesome Experience!

Steve was great right from the start. Very communicative, responsive, and accommodating. The house was fantastic for our group. We were in town for a celebration, so we had some family and friends join us for a portion of our stay and the house provided everyone their own space to sleep which was so nice. There were several fantastic areas both inside and outside the house where we could all hang out together and not feel crowded. The house is adequately stocked with all the essentials—towels, dishes, coffee makers— as well as some fun things like paddle boards and fishing poles! I would totally bring my family back!

Family Fun on Lake Hartwell

Our family group of 11 had a good time at this house on Lake Hartwell. The owner was easy to work with and always responsive. We had plenty of room to spread out and there were things for all the different ages to do. It was a good place for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. The only negative pertains to the paths down to the water and also to the main dock where you park your boat. It is really difficult to get down to the 3 docks due to the steepness. In addition, the paths are slippery in places. One member of our group was not able to make it down there. Another had a lot of difficulty. The main dock for parking your boat is dangerous. It is not stable and is not level. It would be easy to get splinters from walking on it. If you are able to get down to the water, the water in the cove is nice, private and protected, however.

Fun family experience

Our family (me, wife, mom, son (21), and 2 daughters (17,7)) stayed at this house in late June 2021. The house and garage are excellent for entertaining. The docks need some work, and the walk down to the docks is not easy for the elderly and very young. (My mom is 75 and she handled the walk down with some difficulty. My youngest is 7, and she could make it carefully on her own. Me, my wife, and older kids all made it down easily.) The big dock (the "left dock") is basically unusable because it's about to fall apart at any moment. The owner (Steve) honestly recommended that we not use that dock. The middle dock is the only one we used. The dock on the right is difficult to access through the bushes, etc., AND it's too close to the shore to dock a boat. We DID rent a pontoon boat and we were able to dock it successfully at the middle dock for 3 nights. We also swam from the middle dock each day. (Do NOT dive from any docks. the water is fairly shallow (4-8 feet) in the inlet housing the docks. The garage was newly renovated and it looks great! The bottom floor contains a very large TV (85" or 90"), a decent pool table in good shape, and a leather couch sectional. The middle floor of the garage is the actual garage, where the owner keeps paddle boards and kayaks. The third floor is the living quarters and my son enjoyed staying there by himself. The main house has many pros and only a couple cons. Pros: 1. HUGE TV in front of a HUGE table for gathering and playing games. This was basically our hangout the entire trip. 2. Large covered and screened-in patio. There are two ceiling fans, so even when it's warm outside, it feels cooler in this patio. When it rained one day, we hung out in the patio for a few hours playing games. 3. Lots of games and entertainment. Foosball, air hockey, chckers, chess, board games. 4. comfortable beds. Cons: 1. Kitchen is small and separated from the house (not an open floor plan), but it has everything you'll need to cook what you want. 2. No large communal room with couches and seating. The communal area is basically the very large table in front of the very large TV. That was good enough for us, and it let some of us play games while others watched movies/sports. The "living room" of the house is the first room you enter (i.e. a very large foyer). It has a sectional couch and a (smaller) TV, for resting or reading, but the room itself isn't big enough for large family gathering .

Met my extended family here for a long weekend and had a wonderful time! The house and detached garage offered so much space for our family of 16. We enjoyed the pool table room every night and the large table was great for accommodating all of us for meals and games. We enjoyed the dock and lake access as well. We also enjoyed the fire pit at night. The property is close to Clemson and we visited the botanical gardens which is only a 10 minute drive. Steve was very friendly, heloful and quick to respond to any questions we had. Would recommend this property!

Beautiful views

Very nice place to stay. Plenty of room for everyone and the table in the dining room was big enough and then some for all the family. Views were awesome and it was very quiet cul-de-sac. Found it much easier to back down driveway as it is steep all the way down. Mother in law suite above the garage was perfect for the older kids with a pool table downstairs below the garage. The large table will provide the setting for every family gathering. Perfect place to relax and enjoy your vacation.

Clemson graduate (Entomology, 1996), my wife Amanda and I love the upstate and the lake life. We have two young children (Hudson and Scarlett) that love to swim in the lake, tube behind the boat, fish and enjoy all the wildlife.

Why they chose this property

Promixity to Clemson (and Seneca), but definitely feels remote and secluded with the university and state park owned undistiburbed "old growth" forests nearby. Go crazy at Death Valley on Saturday afternoon, but spend Sunday at dawn on the glassy smooth and eerily quiet waters. Sprawling house with huge dining room table to have everyone together, with three docks on property (because we bought three parcels of land).

What makes this property unique

Provided 2 Kayaks, 2 SUPs, or use your own boat directly at the smaller docks (recommend put in at Lawrence Bridge Ramp), on Lake Hartwell but very close to Keowee or even Jocassee if you choose to explore both lakes. Cornhole, 8' Olhausen Pool table, Foosball, etc, etc. Quiet and secluded, but close enough to everything.

Premier Host

They consistently provide great experiences for their guests
