About this property
Beautiful Home Near Marquette Mountain and Minutes From Everything. Est. 2008.
Cliffs Ridge is so-named because you can see its rooftop from what used to be Cliffs Ridge Run at the top of Chair #1 at Marquette Mountain, formerly Cliffs Ridge Ski Area. There is no apostrophe in 'Cliffs' because it was originally named after the Cliffs Dow Company. The exposed beams in the roof and Great Room are actually recycled from the old Tracy Mine in Ishpeming.
Part of the beauty of enjoying Cliffs Ridge is its personality and warmth —you can enjoy family and friends without the commercial feeling of a hotel. With the great kitchen space you can enjoy family dining without the expense of going out to eat for every meal.
Fully furnished, it is a wonderful place to rejuvenate and spend time with the ones you love. Relax in front of the electronic fireplace after a great day of skiing, curl up and watch a movie in the comfortable seating in the living room, enjoy drinks on the back deck after a day at the beach, or read a book in one of the private bedrooms.
Cliffs Ridge has four separate bedrooms. "Superior": King-size bed, master bath, sitting area, access to private back deck, futon, 42" Roku TV and Spectrum cable; "Big Bay": bunk-bed room with two singles; "Northwoods" Queen bed with 32" flat screen TV and DVD player; and "Chalet": Queen bed with 32" flat screen TV and door to outside. "Northwoods" and "Chalet" have French doors with blinds and curtains separating them; these can be opened or closed depending on your preference.
It also has two futons suitable for kids (one in master and one in living room) and reclining sofa and chair in the living room. There is an additional bathroom on the floor with the living room, dining and kitchen area.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything necessary to feed a crowd including two crock pots, turkey roaster and many nice pots and pans. There is a Weber stainless steel propane grill on the upper deck year-around. The back deck has access to the firepit and front walkway, and also has a second grill and bar area every season except Winter.
This year-around vacation home is the perfect spot for family reunions, ski vacations, NMU parent activity weekends, wedding parties, hiking weekends, Brewfest, Pictured Rocks touring, golf vacations and more. Our hope is that your family can enjoy it the way we have for 31 years — and that it can become your Marquette home-away-from-home as well!
The Marquette area has 35 miles of interconnected paved bike trails and miles of mountain biking trails as well—accessible directly from the house. The South Trail Head is right next to the Ski Hill as well. Cliffs Ridge is also two miles from Blueberry Ridge Cross-Country Ski Trails.
You can reach the snowmobile trails directly from the house using Michigan State Highway 553 right-away—two miles to the south to County Road 480. There is also a gas station and excellent bar/restaurant at that corner commonly referred to as the Crossroads. Once you get to the Crossroads you can pretty much get anywhere in the UP via the trail system. You can also trailer south to the parking lot next to Marquette Mountain Ski Area and access the trails from there.

About the host
Hosted by Rob & Cat Preston
We bought the house as a primary residence in 1989 and renovated and added on throughout the years. When moving to Washington State in 2006 we were not ready to sell our house and decided to turn it into a vacation rental so that we could continue updating it and give others a chance to enjoy it as well.
Our ties to Marquette remain strong and we love visiting with friends and family as often as we can. It's hard to leave and it's great to come back!
As we enter into the fourteenth year of sharing our home with wonderful folks, we are happy to know that people are returning to celebrate weddings, reunions, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more. Keep enjoying the house and the Marquette area!
We have now returned to the Midwest (Wisconsin) and are so happy to be back and closer to friends, family and our house! We hope you continue to enjoy Cliffs Ridge as we do.

Why they chose this property
The Marquette area offers an enormous range of activities, indoor and out. Boating, fishing, biking, hiking, skiing, great restaurants and shopping—the possibilities are absolutely endless. It is a welcoming and warm community with the added benefit of magnificent Lake Superior which in itself can entertain the entire family.
Cliffs Ridge's central location allows you to be anywhere in the area in minutes -- the best of all worlds.
Marquette is central to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (Munising, 40 miles east) and Big Bay, (20 minutes north and home of the historic 'Anatomy of a Murder' location. Houghton/Hancock (home of Michigan Technological University) is about two hours north along with Copper Harbor and Isle Royale. Day trip possibilities abound from Cliffs Ridge!

What makes this property unique
We love to have friends over to enjoy the electronic fireplace and gathering table in the dining area — when you sit at that table you feel as though you are living in a tree house! There is also a wonderful new fire pit in the backyard. a few years ago we took down more than nine trees and enlarged the back area including RV parking and entertainment area, including new lawn. The highway in front can be a little noisy during the day; traffic slows down at night. We are focusing the outdoor living area toward the back of the house for this reason.
Nothing compares to fresh Lake Superior trout or whitefish on the grill—get it from Thill's Fish House and you are guaranteed that it is fresh and wonderful!
