About this property
Cozy cabin w/hot tub & fireplace, pet-friendly
The Space:
The pine‑scented air brushes past the wrap‑around deck as steam curls from the private hot tub, and the fire pit glows softly against the twilight. Inside, the wood‑burning fireplace crackles, spilling warm light across the living room while the mountains settle into a quiet hush. You can feel the rhythm of the woods slow down, inviting you to unwind, reconnect, and savor each moment.
Sleeping arrangements
The cabin sleeps up to six guests. Two bedrooms each hold a queen bed, and a loft provides two twin beds. The layout offers a blend of shared space and privacy, perfect for families or small groups.
Bathrooms & comfort
Two full bathrooms serve the home, including a spa tub just off the primary bedroom for a soothing soak after a day outdoors. Fresh linens, extra pillows, and blankets are provided to keep you cozy on cooler nights.
Indoor living
A warm living area centers on a wood‑burning fireplace, with heating for winter evenings and a window AC unit for warmer days. A TV invites relaxed nights in, while WiFi supports streaming and video calls—though service can be slower in this remote setting. A dedicated workspace with a door lets you balance work and downtime.
Kitchen & dining
The fully equipped kitchen offers everything you need to brew coffee on a slow morning or prepare a hearty dinner after exploring nearby trails. A dining space lets you enjoy meals together before stepping out onto the deck.
Outdoor living
The wrap‑around deck features a BBQ grill, outdoor seating, and a fire pit for evening gatherings. The private hot tub is especially inviting under the stars, and an outdoor basketball net adds a playful option. The backyard is open and not fully fenced, offering room to roam.
Nature & surroundings
Private access to Sleepy Creek is a short 15‑minute walk away; the creek is shallow and seasonal, but the surrounding woods remain peaceful year‑round. Cacapon State Park is about 15 minutes away for hiking and golf, while Berkeley Springs’s restaurants, shops, and attractions are a 20‑minute drive.
Good to know
The cabin is pet‑friendly for dogs, with children’s dinnerware and baby safety gates, but cats are not allowed due to allergies. Self check‑in is via lockbox. High‑voltage power lines are visible through the trees about 100 yards from the back deck—no safety issue, just a visual note. Leaves, pollen, and natural debris may appear on outdoor surfaces despite regular cleaning; we appreciate your understanding of the natural setting.
Guest Access:
You'll have the cabin and surrounding property to yourselves. You can also access the small stream a short walk down the road.
Interaction with Guests:
Tony can be reached via cell/text during your stay, and a property manager can be onsite for any issues that arise.

It’s a great place to stay if you want to get away from the big city noises but like the notes say it if about 20 minutes from everything. But we enjoyed the state park and Berkeley Springs. I would recommend going to the bath house.

Thanks again for staying with us. Glad you enjoyed the peaceful setting and that the location worked well for exploring the state park and Berkeley Springs — great tip about the bath house. We’d love to welcome you back anytime.
We had a wonderful stay and we are appreciative of your hospitality. Everything was up to satisfactory. It’s was nice n cozy. And the quiet was so peaceful! We thank you for the use of your cabin and the hot tub, which was sublime. Thanks again.Jonathan & Julie
Based on a few other reviews, of it being 'rundown', yes - you can tell its aging, but it was a beautiful cabin, very private and quiet. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. The bedroom and bathroom in the bottom floor was very nice and can tell everything was newer. Overall a geat little getaway and would definitely go back if we had the opportunity.

Absolutely beautiful location. Way more secluded than we had in mind. The hot tub was absolutely necessary, and it was a selling point. The beds were way more comfortable than other places I've stayed before, so that was definitely helpful. They offered a grill under cover from the rain, I don't remember having a grill available at any other place I've stayed on VRBO (although it's been a while.) Tony the host was very communicative whenever necessary. This place is definitely worth a stay if you're into being off the beaten path!

Excellent property for a quiet and relaxing long weekend. The wood stove and hot tub made the chilly evenings warm and romantic! Highly recommend this property!
The cabin exceeded expectations-loved the privacy and the strong internet! It was a working getaway but it so easy to squeeze both work and pleasure in during our stay-vey clean and spacious yet cozy! Look forward to many more visits!
The Cabin was as advertised, clean and warm. Everything worked and the house was warm even with the 9 degree night. We had three generations and we all had a wonderful time.

Decent, not great.
There was nothing wrong per se but the listing photos were "very good". The place was clean and quiet but everything was just old and worn, a bit scrungy frankly. If it was a lower rate itnwould be less of a big deal but
Pictures were deceiving.Would have been nice to have a "you are here" to kind of orient you with the map on bulletin board. No pot holders for hot pans out of oven. An arrow or something nailed to tree to signify direction to stream/creek.But, overall experience was relaxing and enjoyable
Cabin was nice but needing some updates & upgrades. The bedding was nice but no other furniture was comfortable to sit in. The area around cabin was very quiet. There is not much to in town and most businesses are closed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays. The property manager did check in with us and was very nice.

We hope we provided you with a 5-star stay!
We loved our stay at the property. There are a couple of neighbors- but we didnt see anyone while we stayed. We had an issue with the hot tub, but since we were only there two days we didnt notify the owner until the lsst day- they were very sorry and apologized. Its an adorable cabin, nice location (other then neighbors) but again so peaceful. The furniture is not that comfortable in the loving room- could suggest changing it. The beds were comfortable. Saw lots of deers- We would stay again.
Exactly what we were looking for - a quiet and relaxing cabin away from reality.
My only suggestion would be to take a lantern. We did not and it was a little too dark for my comfort down by the fire pit. I would have felt better with a little more light! We brought our own flatscreen and firestick and set it up in the bedroom for relaxing and watching a movie in bed.

Almost everything was as expected. I was surprised to be able to see other neighbors, as this was not mentioned on the listing. But, we only saw one other person the whole time we were there, so it was not an issue. And that was only non our last night. The air conditioner worked great, and we were happy to have it. The bed was very comfortable and clean. The main house furniture is not the comfiest, but my husband is a disabled vet who has had multiple spinal surgeries, so his comfort needs are more than most. Overall, we had a fabulous trip and really enjoyed our time. The owner was very responsive and checked to make sure we needed anything and made himself available for any questions, help etc. Downtown Berkeley Springs is great! The people are so kind and shops are lovely. I would absolutely go again.

Stay was not as advertised, overpriced
The neighborhood was quiet, the house had been cleaned fully and the hot tub seems very new and worked well. The cabin's deck oversees powerlines with the crackling sound close enough to obviously hear while outside. We stayed on a day when temps were around 80 during the day. There is one AC unit on the top/loft floor which does not come even close to air conditioning the cabin. There was a family of squirrels or rats or birds making very loud sounds in the woodstove's inside chimney. All of this would be fine if the price reflected it. However the price after including the cleaning and other fees is well beyond the value.
If you choose to stay here: here, expect to receive 3+ text messages about how important it is that you leave at or before 10 am with no exceptions (unless you agree ahead of time to pay another $95).

Small rental cabin
1) Problems checking in: Direction instruction to cabin: Unclear, not precise. instead of emphasizing do not use apple map---. Give the actual directions for example : depending on where you are coming from take 522 turn –to Oakland, how many miles and then to---. This way customers can read out of printed directions if your gps does not work. This is how vrbo rentals and others provide directions to the rental house.
2) Cabin location: close to Cacapon State park and trails, Berkeley Springs shops. Although there are neighbors from both sides of the rental, the back area is wooded and private for the use the hot tub. Would be safer with a step stool to get in and out of the hot tub. Deck flooring is worn out and furniture old, wobbly.
3) Cabin facility: small and tight appropriate for a couple or small family, not for special needs people. Small children must be watched-steep stairs. Kitchen well stocked.
4) Overall, ok with the pricing. Website ad of property description not accurate and misleading.
What a perfect getaway! We had a great time. The cabin was very clean and everything we dreamed it would be! We enjoyed the firepit and hot tub. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great, in the woods, cabin experience!~
We came down to enjoy some peace and quiet and got just that! The view and privacy was great! We loved the deck and the hot tub was an added plus! Quick trip to town and the park so that was nice. Wished there was a second window air conditioner as we did not feel it cooled the entire place down and we were rather warm when sleeping which was somewhat uncomfortable for our older parents. Overall it was a great stay and had everything we needed for our getaway from the hustle and bustle.
This was a spontaneous booking and what a wonderful one it was! The place was clean and perfect for my husband, myself, and our two dogs! AMAZING pillows too (I have a custom neck pillow and forgot it)! My hubby had to work no problem WI-FI supported him and while he worked I played! The dogs and I hiked the area in the mornings! Took the recommendation from the owner and did Zilers Loop trail. It was absolutely beautiful lined with Mtn Laurel, it’s rated as hard on all trails, but if you are cardiovascular fit it’s moderate! We also golfed 18 at The Woods Golf Course only 35 mins from the cabin! I also took advantage of the rainy day by going to Atasia Spa well worth it!! We bbque mostly as we went Sun-Wed and most of the town was closed until Wednesday night or Thursday! We did hit up the Panarama Bar and Grill which is across from a beautiful overlook mentioned in the owners handbook! Went down to the creek by the cabin there are a couple of Barky labs when you enter the trail but they don’t leave their property and our dogs loved it it’s about 1 1/2 mile walk round trip! We will definitely be back and rent from them again! Shenandoah 50-60 mins away, Harpers Ferry 35-40 mins, Hancock 30 mins, endless hiking, spas, and a couple of breweries! If we were here a week would of definitely made the most of the area! We saw turkey, deer, pileated woodpeckers, and box turtles on the property, as well as beautiful sunsets over the mountains!
I wanted a place to destress with my dog, and I found it. The property was as listed. I enjoyed all the space (for a city dweller, it was massive for 1) and didn't use most of it. It was nice to take a bath in the MASSIVE tub, have a fire outside, do yoga in the loft, and watch wildlife from the big windows. My dog especially enjoyed all the deer outside! Despite being in nature, there was no evidence of wildlife (mice, bugs) inside the chalet. There is WiFi and cell service, but I cannot speak to internet speeds because the goal was to unplug.
Communication was perfect. Not too much, not too little. The host also emails you a guide upon booking.
Note that it is in the country. It's a short drive to Berkeley Springs and to amenities (e.g., grocery stores, restaurants, the springs). The roads aren't always great, but if my very old sedan could handle it, yours very well could too.
I would definitely consider returning next time I need a hiatus from the city.
I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.
Why they chose this property
We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Black Bear Cabin in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cabin is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
