Kick back at Shellcastle!

This 4BD, 2BA house offers both plenty of space in a quiet neighborhood with 10-minute walking access to the beach (only 6 blocks!), the pier, miniature golf, amusement park, train station, and more. Parking for 3 cars in the driveway, 2 cars in front of the property. Spacious fenced yard with charcoal grill, and a fire pit with Adirondack chairs for relaxing on cool beach evenings. Our “game garage” includes a pool table, foosball, and dart board.

Shellcastle is 3 floors. The first floor offers a circular floor plan with the kitchen, dining room, family room, sunroom, and a bathroom with standing shower. The kitchen is fully equipped with a new fridge and an island. Kid-friendly dishes and utensils provided. The dining room has a large square table with 8 chairs for the family. (Bring in island seats from the kitchen for additional people!) The family room has a 55-inch TV with a Roku device for streaming, a reclining couch, and a comfy chair with an ottoman for lounging, plus games and puzzles. The sunroom has a love seat (excellent for reading) and a card table (excellent for puzzles). The sunroom/entryway and hallway connecting the sunroom and the kitchen have plenty of hooks for jackets, towels, etc.

The second floor has 3 bedrooms (2 with queen beds and a bunk room with a full bed and a twin) plus another bathroom with two sinks and an 8-foot tub/shower combo with double shower heads. The third floor has a bedroom with a king size bed and a landing area outside the bedroom with a full bed, a twin bed plus a trundle twin, and a travel crib as well. Every bedroom has 40 inch LED TV's and Roku devices. All bedrooms and the landing area have window A/C units during the summer. Linens are not provided; guests should bring their own or rent linens locally.

Guests access Shellcastle via keyless entry with your own unique code. We are a dog-friendly home; no cats, no exceptions. Initial $100 pet fee covers one dog; bring a second pup for an additional $50. We offer a robust digital guest book with lots of recommendations for your stay. Come relax and unwind at Shellcastle!

Great spot for a fun weekend with friends. Walking distance to beach. Fun house with small yard and game room which really adds to the property and gave us a place to hangout and entertain ourselves when bad weather came through. We had a really good time at this property and would book again.

This was a great property for a large family that has no mobility issues. The host was easy to communicate with before and throughout the stay. Beds were comfortable. Having to provide my own linens, make the beds, and set up window, AC unit after a long day of travel was tiring, but once all of that was done, our family had a very nice time. Old Orchard Beach is a fun location to visit.

Great house for families

Owner was responsive and attentive, the location was great, just a short walk to beach. The layout was great for families, the detached game room is a huge bonus! Only thing is because of the proximity to street, you can get some loud people walking by later at night depending on where you are in the house.

Perfect for a large group!

The layout of the house was perfect for a family of 2 couples and 2 singles, all 21+ and 3 dogs. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the dishes, pans, and gadgets that we needed. 2 full bathrooms was a definite plus. The yard and game garage were bonuses. The location to the beach was a good hike, so we didn't feel guilty about all the ice cream! We would definitely recommend this property and stay here again!

The house was perfect for my 8 friends. Plenty of room, yard was great for Cornhole and the game room was fun. Walking distance to downtown was easy. Lior communicated with me throughout and we would recommend this house for summer trips to OOB. Thank you!

July 2024 Stay

This property is exactly as described on the VRBO website, it was clean and perfect for our family of 9. So much room, house is stocked with everything you need even beach things like chairs and a wagon which came in extremely handy. Just a short walk away from all the activity at the center of town. Communication with the owner was great, always just a text away and always making sure we were happy with the accommodations. Thank you for sharing your house with others.

Fun for all!

Had a great time. Walking distance to the beach, mini golf, restaurants, the pier. Dogs loved our walks and we enjoyed looking at the houses. A very campy and easy to care for place. The game house was a great addition! Kitchen and baths had everything we needed for a few days. Lawn was a wonderful spot to read a book or for wine and chatting after dark. Lior was very attentive and offered great suggestions.

Amazing place to stay with a family

This was a wonderful weekend spent at Shellcastle! Our hosts were so communicative, and responded quickly if we needed something. The house itself was super clean, and very well done to host a family! They had a travel crib for my little one, and lots of space for my big kids to spread out. There were awesome toys and games there (I highly recommend tackling a 500 piece puzzle if you stay the weekend). The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare the food we brought for our kids, and there were plenty of great restaurants nearby to order takeout! The game room was AMAZING, and my kids had a great time in there. I couldn't recommend it any more highly--- try it, you won't regret your stay!

Room for many

We went on vacation with our dogs and our college and high school kids and all their friends. We had plenty of room for all. TVs in all bedrooms and livingroom avoided down time arguments. The game room with pool table and dart board let them play their music and give them a space to congregate away from mom and dad. Although the distance to the beach or down town Old Orchard Beach was further than I would walk, the kids did take those walks. The nearby beach was beautiful and a great place to play ball with our labrador retriever. We were centrally located so it was a short drive to anything we wanted to do in the area. The house was clean and comfortable with a spacious kitchen. There was air conditioning in every room. There was a fire pit for late evening fun. The instructions emailed by the owner were clear. Thanks for sharing your house with us.

Great house and yard for our family. Everything we needed was available to us in the house. The house was very clean and the owners were very responsive with our questions. The only drawback was being located at the top of a hill, which was a disadvantage with little ones. But, we did figure out that it was best to load our vehicles and be dropped off at a beach entrance.

We had a great time! The location was great, within walking distance of all the fun stuff downtown and the beach, but not too close that it was noisy. We appreciated the AC's being on when we first checked in, it was a really hot day!

Comfortable furniture, good TV and good wifi. Beach chairs, umbrella, beach toys all available, well used and much appreciated. The game room was such a great amenity for the very active youngsters (14, 12, 10) as well as all the board games and bunk beds. The kitchen had everything we needed. Proximity to the fabulous beach was a treat as well. Mostly clean but the oven hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. On the 2nd floor, there is no mirror anywhere other than the bathroom which makes it tough with so many people sharing the one bathroom. One of the 2nd floor bedrooms had no reading lamp and no trash can. The stairs to the 3rd floor are extremely steep & small making it very precarious and difficult to carry things up or down. There is no dresser or closet on the 3rd floor either. Other closet doors are either off altogether or broken. Of the dozens of vacation rentals I have used, this is the first time I had to rent linens so that was a bit weird. However it was a wonderful home base for our family to enjoy the beach and see some sights in Portland. I would rent here again.

Always the best week

This is our 4th year at Shellcastle and as always it was a perfect week. We look forward to this every year and it never disappoints. The house is so perfect for our big group of "big kids". They have the best time every year. Enough space for 10+ people with our visiting friends and the game room and side yard make our stay even better. Once off the beach and not down at the pier it keeps everyone entertained. Can't wait for next year!!!

Off-Season Golf Weekend

Lior's place was perfect for a guy's golf weekend. Plenty of space (we had 5 total) and we enjoyed having the garage game room. Walking distance to most of what Old Orchard has to offer. OOB is very quiet at this time of year and, like everywhere in the US, they are suffering from staff shortages at restaurants, but there were still plenty of options nearby. At the same time, the house had a very well-stocked kitchen and plenty of seating, so going out is not a necessity.

Didn't even stay

The only good thing about this property was the owner. Very responsive and even let us in a little early. However, house could use some serious updating. It was very dirty and everything was cheap. Stained mattresses, bedding and pillows. We stayed one night then found another house to rent for the rest of the week. Didn't even stay! Had to pay for 2 houses for our vacation. Pictures make house look much better than it is.

Great Place to stay

This home hit my family perfectly along with my in-laws. The third floor really makes a huge difference. It was far enough away from noise of downtown but close enough to walk if you wanted. Overall a great vacation in a good location.

We love our week here every year

This is our third year here and it is always a perfect week. The house is everything we want and need for 9 people. We don't feel like we are on top of each other and the yard and game room are a huge added bonus. Kids ranging from 12-21 and they are all happy the whole time they are here. Lior is so great to work with. He was so quick to get back to us for anything we needed and very generous to us. We can't wait to book our trip next year!

Great place!

It’s an older home but very well maintained. Very comfortable and clean. It came with a game room which was a huge hit for all of us, especially during the rain, it gave us something to do without having to leave the property. The beds were comfortable and there was more than enough room for 8 adults. The location was great for the couple of beach days we had as well and the house provided some beach chairs for us to use. The only down side was it had a charcoal grill and we had to buy some charcoal for it. If we knew that ahead of time we would have brought our gas grill from home. Otherwise great home and will most likely rent it again!!!
