True and full oceanfront condo with a lanai (balcony) that almost hangs over the beach. See the ponds below where the turtles and the eels want to come and feed. Let the sounds of the sea make you sleep after a day of sightseeing or relaxation. The bedroom and living room face the sea, where dolphins can be seen all year round and whales in season.

Hale Kona Kai is an intimate, absolute oceanfront complex of 39 one-bedroom condos. Located on the outskirts of Kona City, it is off the main road providing calm, ocean-view relaxation from every module. Located just south of Royal Kona Resort, excellent dining at Huggo's or Don Beachcomber's is a two-minute walk away and some other restaurants are just a pleasant stroll away. The white sand of Honl's Beach is less than a quarter-mile south and the Kona Farmer's Market half a mile north.

The complex offers an elevator that provides convenient access for all. On the ocean side, you'll find a heated saltwater swimming pool and a grill on the south end of the complex. Each floor has coin-operated washers and dryers for your use. Each condo does not have its own washer/dryer.

Each unit includes designated parking, safe WIFI, Central Air Conditioning & cable TV. Both units, like Lanais, are non-smoking and Hale Kona Kai is non-smoking.

We enjoyed our stay in unit 306 and intend to stay there again on our next visit. It is nice to have the little extras so one doesn't need to haul the cooler, saran wrap and all from the mainland.

Nice and easy!

We’ve stayed at a lot of Vrbo properties and have never been to one that was as well stocked with all the amenities of home. Also had beach towels, chairs, cooler, snorkel gear, everything you need for a visit to the beach.

The location was perfect for walking to town for dinner and experiencing the farmers market, historical buildings, and a nice small beach. There were a few items that needed attention and we let the rental company know. Otherwise, we had a nice stay.

Location

Walkable distance to many restaurants. This is a positive, as the parking lots charge $15.00 an hour! Furnishing in this condo are very dated, but updated kitchen and bathroom are nice. Being situated right next to the roaring surf is wonderful.

Comfortable and welcoming

This condo is newly furnished and updated. The shower is beautiful, but the shower head is set so that lots of water goes out. Thus, the floor is wet. But thus clean. The shower head does not seem to be very adjustable. The kitchen is very well outfitted with quality cooking ware. When the tv's are replaced, consider getting smart TVs so we can get Netflix, etc. The lanai furniture is uncomfortable and needs a treatment of the teak oil which is under the sink. All in all, 306 is good quality. We will be back.

Terrible Experience

DO NOT rent this property unless you want to be severely disappointed.My wife and I have rented many properties through VRBO with very positive experiences. Unfortunately, our experience with this property was indescribable.When we arrived we noticed immediately that it was a rundown property. When we entered the the condo we where hit with a horrible musty, moldy odor. The condo was filthy. Two noisy portable air conditioners were in place and not really cooling the condo. The photos displayed on the website must have been taken several years ago as everything was very worn out.I immediately called the property manager and left a very detailed voice mail about our displeasure with the property. Being discouraged and upset we left the property and booked a room at a local hotel for the evening.Early the next morning I received a call from the property manager. He explained that the air conditioning had been out of order for the past 2 months (why didn’t they contact us about this before our arrival?). I again expressed our complete displeasure with the property and requested a full refund.I will say that the property manager was very professional and understanding of the situation and immediately issued the full refund.Fortunately my wife and I were able to book another VRBO property for same day arrival and we had a wonderful experience in Hawaii for the remainder of our stay.Mark and June G.

Amazing view and location. Rustic old property

I’d give the view and location 5 stars, the unit itself 3 stars. We left the windows open the whole time to hear the waves crashing and feel the ocean breeze. ( no need for AC but also the main AC was broken in the whole place so 2 portable ones were provided but never used). It looks as if the kitchen has had some remodeling started but the rest of the place needs updating. The curtains, rugs, furniture,bed, windows and screen doors all need to be replaced. The bathroom needs remodeling. All old. To be fair, if all of this was done we would be paying twice as much. If you overlook the look and feel of old 70’s and focus on the view, price and location it was nice. We loved sitting in the balcony and watching the waves, surfers and set sets. All fabulous.

The location is perfect and the views are great. Upon arrival we noticed several things. Firstly some of the oven temperature control buttons did not work. This was reported to the host and the only thing that was done was to verify which ones didn’t. Secondly, the air filter was so clogged with debris that the air flow of the AC was greatly reduced. This was fixed within a few days. Thirdly, several of the kitchen pans and utensils were not clean. We cleaned them. Fourthly, the blender had only two working settings. Additionally, the ceiling fan in the kitchen was unusable as the blades were badly degraded which resulted in small pieces coming off when it was running. The ceiling fan in the bedroom had a chain that ran from the outlet to the fan. The chain was filthy. I spoke with a CASAGO representative who was on site and asker her to come take a look to which she replied that she knows what the condo looks like. As for the filth chain for the fan, she told me that it would be done during a deep cleaning of the condo. Several texts were exchanged as to the problems. The only one that was taken care of was the AC filter. We were surprised that no accommodation was made for issues so we left early. I’m not sure that the conditions of their properties are routinely checked by management often. These issues would likely have been identified and fixed if conditions were checked prior to occupancy give the price to stay there.

Hale Kona Kai 306

Adeline Hello our stay in Hale Kona Kai 306 was great, the view was undeniably the best thing about the condo. The complex and pool was very clean and tidy, just wish there was a restroom by the pool. The Condo was neat and tidy and clean, the only cleanliness complaint would be the dust that was coated on things like the vents and the cupboards doors (inside of them) and the back of the toilet the metal hose part that you see visually that goes into the wall and the ceilings in areas I'm assuming is maybe because of the humidity because I wiped the hose off that goes from the toilet to the wall and it all came off super easy, so prob just needs to all be wiped down each time when they see the sticky dust stuff, so just more attention to cleaning those things. And the smell of the condo when you first walk in very yucky??, but cleared up with leaving the window open and air off for awhile it did get very warm inside but better then the yucky smell of dampness and the carpet felt wet and damp hum is this the price you pay to live right on the ocean 🌊 I would take it! The remodel job was nicely done, the kitchen had everything we needed the bathroom was done very nicely. The only problem is that the bathroom shower needs a full shower door or shower curtain. Because in no way does it contain the water as most of it comes out the 1/2 door😞 always had to use the floor mat and an towel to keep to water 💦 contained, the shower is on the small size which causes this. The condo was well supplied with things that you would or might need to use, the laundry facilities were wonderful to have and use. All in all we would stay here again, but maybe a different unit because of the shower issue only and that could be easily fixed with a shower door or curtain then we would definitely stay in this unit. Great Location

The location of the condo is fantastic, right on the shore with waves breaking. The condo itself was clean and the kitchen is very well equipped, bathroom is small but it did the job for me.I had an issue with one of the window covers and it was fixed within minutes, so the response time of the team on site was fantastic. The overall condo and furnishings are rather tired and because of the proximity to the sea, the furniture on the lanai and the windows were salt-crusted and the condo itself felt slightly damp with rust spots in places. However, all that was made up by the fantastic view and location.

Kona town visit

Excellent location for walking into Kona town, farmers market, shops and restaurants.Amazing sunsets and surf watching just on the lanai. Everything you need including snorkeling gear and towels. Was perfect!

Excellent location, well-appointed and clean condo. Ample supplies, kitchen appliances, gadgets and extra towels. Mattress topper is not good. Sheets constantly pulled up, topper travels. Furnishings and decor in bedroom and living room are dated. Shower is open concept and hard to keep water from splashing out onto floor.

Great condo!

Condo has all that is needed for a nice stay. It's walking distance to the pier and village. The view of the bay is awesome. Saw dolphins playing around. All in all, it was a great stay.

Best Location- a lot going for it…..but…

First of all let me say, we ourselves are Vacation rental owners. We know our guest expect a certain degree of accommodation and convenience. We are sorry to say - but the bed was terribly uncomfortable and hard. It could have used a good memory foam topper to help. There were OFF Gasses from the SEWER (Smelly) in the kitchen. Just walking past the sink made me want to gag. There were some nice updates to the kitchen (countertops, cabinets ) and the bathroom. Due to the compact size of the bathroom there is only 1/2 door on the shower which guarantees the shower spray will soak the rug, wall and flooring. The unit we stayed in - though clean was Musty and smelly. The ceiling fans only had One speed which was not convenient as we had to keep them off or on for short periods of time due to noise and air flow. THE UPSTAIRS GUESTS/PEOPLE were Rudely Noisy at all hours stomping across the floors, moving furniture and running around. The noise echoed through our unit. The staff was helpful. The views were amazing and the location great. The parking stalls are extremely tight and narrow, and tricky to maneuver with a SUV. We did enjoy our stay in Kailua Kona, but not necessarily due to the Vacation rental itself.

The Pros and Cons (March 17 – 25, 2023)

Pros Beautiful oceanfront views, we fell asleep to sound of waves. Convenient location, easy walk to Kailua Village shops/food/beach. Within a short walking distance was a lagoon with lounge chairs & palapas in the sand. Well-appointed kitchen w/all needed appliances/dishes. Closets had extra sheets/towels & beach wares. Complex off main road & quiet with no street noise. Cons We were informed 4 days before check-in that central AC to complex had stopped working but a portable AC was installed in bedroom. Unfortunately, it was loud; we only ran it briefly before sleeping. Rest of unit stayed warm despite ceiling fans & open doors. Bathroom was very uncomfortable due to lack of AC & no windows/exhaust fan to reduce heat/humidity. Lanai chair cushions very thin making chairs uncomfortable & not allowing us to enjoy lanai use for long. Anything affected by humidity & salt lacked maintenance. E.g, rust present on many metal surfaces (door frames, ceiling fans, coffee maker, lanai upper framework). Cleaning service needs to be reevaluated, e.g. unclean pans had to be washed before 1st use, bathroom’s HVAC vent/air filter had a lot of dust, shower corners looked moldy. Pest service should be reevaluated. Moments after checking in we saw a cockroach in the kitchen. After seeing this 1st cockroach we took precautions not to leave out food/dirty dishes. Cockroach problem still persisted & we had to kill them daily during the week.

Winter Break

It was a very enjoyable stay. It is a reasonable walk down to downtown Kona with a host of restaurants and shopping. Nice pool and incredible view of the ocean. At times, the roar of the waves breaking on the rocks was deafening but we loved it. Management communicated fine via text messages. Apartment was neat and clean, Kitchen was nice and everything we needed was there. Would have been nice if they had provided laundry soap for the pay washer/dryer at the end of the hall but no big deal. We loved sitting on the deck looking out at the ocean.
