Extraordinary O'Keeffe Mountain Views & Stargazing

Listing Description
Sky Home offers panoramic views of the valley and the iconic Pedernal—Georgia O’Keeffe’s mountain muse. Sliding glass doors frame the striking backdrop, allowing you to take it in from the comfort of the living room or step onto the expansive deck to enjoy kaleidoscopic skies. A king bed rests in a sunlit bedroom with a stargazing skylight. A paradise for view seekers and a serene place to rest.
Explore Ghost Ranch, Lake Abiquiú, Ojo Caliente, Plaza Blanca, or the Georgia O’Keeffe Home & Studio.

Your Property
Perched above the valley at the highest point of the LAND, Sky Home offers a front-row seat to one of the most iconic views in the American Southwest. From its expansive deck and sun-filled interiors, you’ll take in sweeping, unobstructed vistas of the Pedernal and the rolling contours of northern New Mexico. Sunrises and sunsets here are extraordinary, casting golden light across the open valley below.
Sky Home, like all of the homes on the LAND, is constructed with non-toxic, natural materials—thick earthen adobe walls, clay and lime plasters, low-VOC finishes, and solid wood elements—designed for healthy living and natural thermal comfort. These materials naturally regulate temperature throughout the seasons, creating interiors that feel cool in summer, warm in winter, and deeply restorative year-round.
As night falls, the home becomes a haven for stargazers and photographers. With near-zero light and sound contamination, the skies reveal the Milky Way, visible planets, and meteor showers in breathtaking clarity. Whether you’re capturing constellations through a lens or simply lying back on the deck, the cosmos feels remarkably close.
The broad wooden deck is ideal for morning movement, meditation, reading, or simply taking in the view. Sky Home is a sanctuary for creatives, nature lovers, and anyone seeking stillness and inspiration.
Kitchen Amenities
The kitchen is exceptionally well-appointed and includes:
Electric range with oven
Vitamix blender
Coffee maker, kettle, and toaster
Full cookware set
Crock pot
Fully stocked dishware and glassware
Coffee, tea, olive oil, salt, pepper, and essential spices

Sky Home is one of six custom adobe structures on the LAND—a 43-acre retreat sanctuary bordered by 1.5 million acres of national forest. A year-round creek flows through the property, bringing life, gentle sound, and occasional beaver sightings. The birdlife is abundant, and the prevailing soundtrack is rustling leaves, flowing water, and deep stillness.
In line with our commitment to regenerative living, the home has no air conditioning—we rely on adobe’s natural thermal regulation for comfort. The property is strictly pesticide-free to protect the delicate ecosystem. By choosing to stay here, you’re invited into a slower, more conscious way of living—one that honors land, wildlife, and natural systems.

Guest Access
As a guest of Sky Home, you’ll have full access to the 43-acre LAND. The property includes three additional guest homes, the Cathedral Barn (used for group lodging and gatherings), and the private residence where the owners live. The homes are thoughtfully spaced to preserve a sense of quiet and privacy.
Wander freely throughout the property, where the orchard offers seasonal apricots, apples, pears, and plums when in season. Open any gate and step directly into the national forest for hiking, nature walks, or mountain biking across rugged, wide-open terrain.
Sit quietly beside the year-round creek in this protected beaver habitat, or watch for wildlife at dusk. Children can safely explore while you rest and reconnect.
Shared outdoor amenities include:
Two open-air yoga/viewing decks
The Fire View, a raised stone platform with unobstructed views of the Pedernal, featuring a wood-burning fire pit and grill
Access to Beaver Creek
Access to the Tsiping Ruins trailhead
Private entry into the surrounding Santa Fe National Forest
Whether you’re here to explore, create, or simply pause, the LAND offers a rare invitation to return to land, light, sky, and quiet.

Interaction with Guests
The owners live on the LAND and can be reached via messaging through the booking platform. There may be other like-minded guests staying in nearby homes—often fellow nature lovers and creatives—or you may not see anyone at all, as many guests spend their days hiking and exploring the greater Abiquiú landscape.
Other details to note

The LAND draws its water from a deep well that taps directly into an underground aquifer. The result is clean, naturally filtered water—fresh from the earth and free of chemicals.

You may encounter our friendly property cats as they wander the grounds or rest near the homes.

We charge a $30 pet fee per pet, with a maximum of three pets per home. For bookings with three dogs, an additional $50 cleaning fee applies.

To support both work and relaxation, we’ve installed high-speed fiber internet throughout The Land.

Please note that the LAND is located in rural northern New Mexico, surrounded by pristine wilderness. It’s common to see deer, foxes, elk, and a wide variety of birds. While the broader region is home to wildlife such as bears and mountain lions, we have never seen a mountain lion on the property and have only seen a bear once in many years. Encounters are extremely rare and highly unlikely, but we share this information in the spirit of transparency about life in a natural high-desert environment.

We encourage guests to enjoy the natural surroundings with curiosity and care.

Extraordinary location in northern New Mexico. The setting is amazing with great access to trails in the area. We’ve stayed in this location twice and would come again. The bedding is really comfortable, and the kitchen is well equipped. I did observe that the property overall has declined a bit since our last stay (deferred maintenance). That being said, it isn’t easy keeping this significant a property fully up to date on repairs. My primary suggestion would be to fix/reinstall screens on the windows and fix window latches. Not being able to open windows made it very difficult to get good air circulation in the house in the warm weather.

Greg

This place was awesome, exactly as described, clean, very nice and well appointed. The views were incredible and the star gazing was magical. A bit on the tight side for sleeping 4 people, the king bed was fine for two adults and two kids (age 6 and 2) but would be tight for 4 adults. That being said the bed and linens were super comfy and clean. I’ve been let down before by vacation rentals but this one knocked it out of the park.

Magical.

We loved every minute of our stay. Pros: views, views, views! Quiet. Hiking accessible from the property. The bedding, the bed, everything is so lovely. We did yoga every morning on the deck. Relaxed in the evening watching beautiful sunsets. The hosts were welcoming and responsive. Cons: That we couldn’t stay longer!! We will definitely be back. Thanks Jonathan and Maya!

Unwind

The views were very enchanting. House was very nice. Forth of July was warm during afternoon and evening. Air conditioning in the bedroom would have made huge difference. Not all windows had screens; nor did the doors. Outside shower was wonderful. The quietness of the valley was soothing.

Breathtaking

The view from this property outweighs any minor inconveniences. It is the most spectacular vista right outside your doorstep. The kitchen worked well, but I do suggest bringing some salt despite a full array of other spices and seasonings. The outdoor shower looked fun and adventurous; however, it did not work. So, the large bathtub had to do! Overall, this was an amazing stay. Highly recommend if you want to connect with nature and be in absolute solitude.

Beautiful serene views of Cerro Pedernal! Home is equipped with everything you need for your stay. Bring your own charcoal for grill. Stars are out of this world! Sunsets are beautiful from the deck. Roads are a little rough to the property. Drove in a Lincoln Nautilus and did ok. Outdoor shower is the only shower at the home. The big bath tub is perfect for soaking and relaxation. The chaise lounge chair pictured is not there but there is a large couch on the deck. Overall great stay! Wished I had more time to explore “The Land”.

Beautiful.

Remote and a bit of a challenge to find, but the stunning landscapes, majestic silence, and privacy were more than compensation. Lovely and relaxing.

Stunning View

Overall, the view is beautiful and just as advertised! The road to the house is very narrow and uneven. I would not recommend a low suspension vehicle, but an SUV or truck can navigate it just fine. The kitchen was well stocked with great quality cooking ware, spices, etc. We enjoyed the deck and watching the afternoon storms roll in. This house is the most isolated on the property but there are other rentals nearby; this didn’t bother us. The house had plenty of linens, soaps and all the necessities! We enjoyed our stay and may even look at renting one of the larger homes in the future!

Incredible Location!!

Our stay was spectacular. The home is spacious and spotless, the location is breathtaking. Quiet and comfortable this home exceeded all our expectations. Plan to stay several days to fully enjoy the area and amenities. We will definitely come back to the Land. The views of Perdernal are unmatched. The entire property is incredibly pet friendly. This is truly a special place.

Magical Place

The views from this property are stunning; we could have easily sat on the patio all day taking the beauty in (which we did quite a bit). The house, although one bedroom, was very spacious and fit our needs well. We brought our two dogs with us and it's safe to say we all had an amazing time.

Get away from it all...

The deck was gorgeous and relaxing. It did get a little warm in afternoon so we got out the fans and just hung out and decompressed. Dinner at the Inn was delicious and everyone was very welcoming. The hosts left some finishing touches which made the experience enjoyable. Thank you!

Better Than The Photos!

Our stay was exceptional. My wife & I were looking for privacy, a beautiful setting, and top notch amenities. This was it! Photos & description of property looked amazing online but don't do it justice. The home is situated in such a way that you have a picture perfect view of the Cerro Padernal from the living room couch. Sunsets are gorgeous. The deck & outdoor shower are icing on the cake. Check in & check out was a breeze. Everything was prepared & stocked for our arrival. Home owners were responsive & easy to work with. We were within an hour's drive to some of the greatest locations in New Mexico (Bandelier Nat'l Monument, Ghost Ranch, Santa Fe, hiking trails galore, hot springts, etc.). New Mexico is a hidden gem and a must visit. And imo, no better place to stay than right here in Canones.

Beautiful Escape

The design of the home was thoughtfully built, with a cool breeze blowing through the entire home with a few open windows. Natural light flooded the home, each window a masterpiece of beauty, with the living room overlooking the Padernal. Everything was clean and of high quality from the linens in the bedroom to the spices in the kitchen. Despite the fires that effected the air quality and precluded us from clearly seeing the beautiful environment around us, we will be back to recharge and re-connect at The Land.

About the host

Hosted by Jonathan Olinger

Host profile image
We are a couple Jonathan from NYC founder of HUMAN a storytelling agency, and Maya a global citizen founder of Maya Savage a earth centered jewelry studio. We arrived at THE LAND as Airbnb guests. Instantly we felt a deep connection to the land and this beautiful space. Just out of curiosity we decided to do a google search to see what was for sale in the area, lo and behold, the very property we were staying at was listed for sale. So we bought it !
It's been a real adventure. Our vision is to create a sustainable eco-friendly designer living space. We are trying to restore the land, the trees, and orchard that had been grossly neglected by the previous owners who hadn't watered or nurtured the land in over 2 years. Additionally, we are moving into full solar energy, composting all organic matter, recycling of greywater, a massive watershed management project, as well as planting our own veggies that hopefully we will be available for sale to all guests in the next year.

What makes this property unique

43 acres of private property, 1 creek, 2 yoga decks, a luxury barn and 1.5 million acres of national forest surrounding the property for hikes and walks. The entrance to the national forest surrounding THE LAND is through our property so we think it fair to say that you will have private access to 1.5 million acres of hikes, serenity and spectacular views.
15 mins away from Lake Abiquiu.
