About this property

Wild Oyster Lodge on Hood Canal: Breathtaking Water Views, Beach, & Hot tub

Escape in style to the incredible natural beauty and tranquility of the Olympic Peninsula at the Wild Oyster Lodge. This expansive log home, set on high-bank water-front and surrounded by towering pines, provides sweeping views of Hood Canal from its large deck and oversized chef's kitchen. You will enjoy the rugged beauty of the sea and woods from the comfort of this well-appointed, contemporary home with elevated décor and furnishings. It's a perfect jumping off point to explore the Olympic Peninsula.

Wild Oyster Lodge sits on Dabob Bay, a secluded bay on the north Hood Canal, surrounded by protected wilderness and a quarter-mile down the beach from one of Taylor Shellfish's oyster farms. Eagles and seals are your neighbors and the rocky beach (accessible by a long set of stairs, which is quite steep) abounds with fresh oysters. The home is located 15 minutes from Olympic National Park (with Mt. Walker and Canyon Falls trailheads nearby), and the quaint town of Quilcene 10 minutes away. Get out on the pristine waters of Dabob Bay with a pair of kayaks, explore the coastline or make the round trip to nearby Dabob Broad Spit, a boat-access only park nearby.

The home has two large bedrooms, a sleeping loft, and bonus room with daybed to provide a comfortable stay for two families or a few groups of friends. The large sunroom and living room provide plenty of space to relax, play games or cozy up near the gas fireplace. One of the highlights of this getaway is the large professional kitchen, with seating for 8, and a granite island for breakfast, oysters or wine tasting. If you prefer outdoor cooking, there is also a Weber gas grill ready for you.

Although its seclusion is one of its most unique features, this place may not be for everyone. It's a great place to connect and kick back, but it is intentionally TV- less and the wifi is not very fast (good enough for email, but not great for zoom calls or streaming video). The nearby town of Quilcene only offers a few spots to eat and a small but well-supplied market, so it's recommended to pack groceries before you arrive and take advantage of the indoor/outdoor cooking and dining spaces at The Wild Oyster. The home has 2 outdoor security cameras, a doorbell camera on the front door and a camera monitoring the upper driveway.

A hidden escape from the world
We truly felt like we escaped from the world while we were here- which is just what we wanted! The lake view is breathtaking and the quietness is so calming. There are so many beautiful places to hike as Olympian National Park is just 15-20 minutes away. This is the perfect REMOTE vacation to unplug and escape reality and RELAX! We saw a lot of wild life, including a bear outside my window! I do recommend bringing bear spray or a bear horn however we were fine without one. The cabin was spacious and had mostly everything we needed. We truly enjoyed our stay and hope to return to the Oyster Lodge Cabin very soon! 10/10 recommend!

Incredible, peaceful get-away
This place is truly a gem. I loved every minute and every nook and cranny it had to offer: the hot tub, the giant kitchen, the fireplace room, the sun room, the comfy beds, the outdoor space, the stairs to the beach. Nothing short of magical, restorative and exactly what I needed.

Sessions-- our song writing retreat
First impression of 'this is exactly what we were looking for' kept ringing true during our visit. The property is described well... it's actually better in real life. The inn is comfortable, inviting throughout, and has plenty of sitting, sleeping, bathrooms and lounging areas. The kitchen is large... and is a joy to cook in. Access to to the beach down the bluff and stairs is good. The hot tub was a peaceful end to our full days. What a treat... for our retreat!

We live in N Seattle with our two young sons and baby daughter; we are so excited that you will soon enjoy our home away from home. We hope you love it as much as we do!

Why they chose this property

Growing up, we both were lucky enough to have special spaces to escape to with our families. For Erin, it was to a modest “camp” in the Adirondacks, where they boated and swam all day, set off fireworks on the Fourth of July, and biked along dirt roads. For Adam, it was a rustic log cabin in Virginia farm country, an hour outside of DC. Both of these places provided escapes from the city and gave us the opportunities to be together as a family or to host close friends. We wanted this experience for our kids...to get out of the city, to learn about the forest and how to dig clams and shuck oysters. And living in Seattle, we wanted to be in a place that really had the best of the water, mountains and forest that is quintessential Pacific Northwest.

What makes this property unique

Incredibly private, we are still amazed by the number of seals, eagles, owls, and porpoises, we see, as well as the incredible access to oysters and clams on the bay. The log home is surrounded by a protected nature preserve (Dabob Bay Natural Area). Our beach has clear, clean waters, is very quiet, gorgeous views and calm water for kayaking or SUPing. Close to Seattle (2 hrs, ferry access via Bainbridge or Edmonds, as well as drivable via the Tacoma Narrows Bridge). When you arrive, it feels like a totally immersive escape.
