About this property
Historic Forested Cabin with Great Mountain Views
Classic Estes Park cabin in historic wooded neighborhood next to Rocky Mountain National Park (20-NCD0362). Built in 1921 and restored in 2019, this cabin is situated to view Longs Peak and Twin Sisters Peak. It backs up to a meadow where deer and elk frequently browse during all seasons. Quintessential Estes Park architectural elements, such as a moss rock fireplace and antler door handles, are found throughout the cabin. A few minutes from the National Park entrance as well as downtown Estes Park.
THE SPACE This well-reviewed, super-clean, beautiful and cozy cabin is nestled in the trees within a historic neighborhood of early twentieth century Colorado cabins. It offers tranquility and majestic views of one of the most beautiful sections of the Rocky Mountains. The cabin is a perfect place to stay if you are interested in viewing wildlife, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, mountaineering, climbing, writing or just escaping to the mountains to relax. It is hard to stay any closer to Rocky Mountain National Park (4 minute drive to the National Park entrance station), but the cabin is also walking distance to a great breakfast burrito, a country market, and a few of Estes Park's best restaurants. An 8 minute drive gets you to downtown Estes Park or the historic Stanley Hotel.
The cabin was completely restored in 2019 to modern standards but maintains its character from 1921. Stay connected with good WiFi, listen to music on the stereo (bluetooth or aux plug connection), catch a movie on the Smart Fire TV, or lose yourself in one of the eclectic novels or Rocky Mountain National Park hiking and nature guides. The cabin is located in a small cluster of historic cabins so it is important to respect the neighbors and the wildlife.
The cabin is 650 square feet with a living area, dining area, kitchen, bathroom with shower and 2 cozy (small) bedrooms. A rustic porch has incredible mountain views and is a great place to relax.
BEDROOMS The bedrooms are small, cozy, and offer great natural light. One bedroom has a double bed (new Tuft and Needle mattress) and the window faces a small, beautiful meadow that invites elk, deer, bobcats, bears, fox, coyote, and other mountain critters. The other bedroom has a single bed and a single pullout trundle (pictured), and an elk antler door handle.
DINING AND LIVING AREAS The dining area includes a large, antique wooden table, pine chairs and an original built-in bench where decades of mountain-goers ate meals, played games and cards (included), and reminisced about great days in nature. The living area couch and reading chair are weathered perfectly and offer mountain views and a comfy place to read or drink a glass of wine. The exquisite stone fireplace was built by a prolific, local mason and serves as the focal point for the cabin interior. A convenient electric fireplace insert provides warmth and ambiance. A smart TV provides access to your favorite shows and movies.
KITCHEN The kitchen has a distinct cabin charm. Appliances include a gas stove, a small oven, a microwave and a modern retro refrigerator with freezer. The cabin is outfitted with a drip coffee maker and local organic coffee, as well as all the pots, pans, cutlery and dishes for a comfortable stay.
GUEST ACCESS Guests have complete access to the property, including the front yard and porch. The property boundary is just beyond the back door, so guests are asked to respect the neighbor's property and not wander into the open meadow behind the house. We have parking for 2 cars.

Tyler 11/2020 "This cabin is perfect!!! My family of four had the greatest time. It’s cozy and quaint in a perfect location. Erik was so helpful with check in and the place was spotless. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a little thanksgiving dinner. Such a great place to stay!"
Kris 8/2020 "Absolutely perfect location for access to RMNP. Super clean and very cozy. My 12 year old son and had a trip of a lifetime. We would definitely stay here again if we make it back to RMNP again."
Courtney 7/2020 "Rivendell is a dream come true. It’s one of the most cozy, unique places I have ever stayed. The view, the wooden craftsmanship touches, the perfect little cabin kitchen, the close proximity to RMNP... I could go on and on about the magic of Erik’s place. I can’t wait to return someday!"
Bethany 3/2020 "The cabin was really beyond what I expected. You’re greeted by small Rivendell sign and small stained glass window on the front door on a patio facing the mountains. So there’s a bit of curiosity walking into the place. The cabin itself is stocked with everything you need and then some. I was happy to find some treats waiting for me along with a full bookcase (including Sandra Cisneros)! The bed was comfortable and room was warm. I stayed by myself but it’s a good size for a small family. There are games, a blow dryer, outlets, and some great local tips for your outdoor adventure. Definitely recommend this spot! Extra plus: it was really cool to see the unique and antique features all around this little hobbit house.

Such a cute cozy cabin in a perfect location! It’s not big but has everything you need in a very well used space. Sitting on the deck in the afternoon after a long hike was so peaceful. And the fire place at night was so relaxing. Really a perfect little getaway!

Just spent 3 nights at this historic cabin with great views of Longs Peak - extremely clean and comfortable and easy check in and out with a great Cabin Manual - close to downtown Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park - you’ll love this cabin.
Close to the Park entrance and everything else, it was a great spot. The property gives you everything you need for a comfortable stay. WiFi and a tv for the kids when needed. Wildlife also was really neat to watch. Would stay again!
The cabin was perfect. Deck and view was wonderful and cabin had great hobbit characteristics with the wood and door locks. Comfortable for the 3 of us.
Great place to stay. Loved the cabin feel and the host was exceptional. A storm knocked out the power to most of Estes Park. The host dropped off flashlights for us and made sure we were alright.
Great cabin convenient to Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park
We loved our stay. Beautiful cabin in quiet neighborhood! Was super close to the entrance of the National Park and to everything in and around Estes Park.
We enjoyed a 2-night stay here. Cabin is exactly as described with lots of vintage touches. We saw elk, hummingbirds, chipmunks and hawks outside the cabin. Lovely peak views and close to the non-busy side of town. Overall, we loved our short get away. Thank you!
This house was exactly like it’s advertised, very cozy and comfortable and Very clean!! Loved the separate heater in the bathroom too! And especially loved sitting on the porch in the morning watching the birds feeding!! A quiet neighborhood and friendly too! Also very convenient to RMNP and shopping in Estes! Would definitely stay here again!!
I had such a great time. Very comfortable cabin and spent most of my time on the front porch when not wandering around photographing the wildlife and area. Very quiet neighborhood and it was relaxing and helped to wind down after working so much.
My husband and I had a lovely stay at Rivendell cabin. Very close to park entry and bear lake corridor gate. There were lots of books on the property including hiking books that were up to date with maps and descriptions of popular hikes. For coffee snobs there is a grinder (blade grinder) on site so you can appreciate your colorado cuppa fresh. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the evenings. We especially appreciated the hospitality and bird feeders of the next door neighbor. She gave us some nice hiking tips and it was great seeing some our target Rocky Mountain birds right on the property. Perfect size cabin for a couple. A note to tall guests- the bed is a full not a queen. This left my 6’2” husband with dangling feet at night. This however does not change my 5 star rating :)
Beautiful place. Was exactly what we were expecting.
The views were incredible. There were animals walking through the yard. It was very relaxing. The location was close to the entry of the national park, yet on the edge of town.
