House is situated on a beautiful property with amazing back porch views, enjoyable front yard, and beautiful surroundings. Home plenty of rooms, huge and peaceful deck, and tons of table space. We would 100% recommend this house as well as rent it again!
We had the most amazing week staying at Big Ridge! The views are absolutely stunning, and the property was perfect for our group of 11. The outdoor kitchen and giant table were perfect for grilling and enjoying group dinners, and there was plenty of seating out on the deck for taking in the mountain views. Scott was a perfect host, answering questions before we arrived and checking in on us while we were there. I highly recommend a stay at Big Ridge!
Our group had a great time staying at Big Ridge. The selling point is definitely the outdoor areas of this house! The covered sitting area with panoramic views was breathtaking! We had our morning coffee there and watched beautiful sunsets in the evenings. Even when it was pouring rain one late afternoon, we were able to sit out there and watch the storm while staying dry. The outdoor eating area was magical as well!
We spent most of our days out and about hiking and came back for dinner and sunset. So most of our time at the house was spent using the kitchen or hanging outside. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed.
The owner is easy to communicate with if you have any questions. Definitely follow his directions to get to the cabin as our navigation went crazy and took us the wrong way!
My family was supposed to come for a funeral of a family member who died of Covid but due to unforeseen circumstances, all but one of us out of six were able to come, so nobody actually stsyed. The host/owner made every effort to make our stay work out for us the best he could and did everything possible to work things out for us in light of the fact that we had to cancel beyond the refund period, but did refund one night we made prior to end of refunding period. I would absolutely choose this property again in a heartbeat because of him and his graciousness and kindness toward our family at a very trying time and doing so much to try to help us out. The home appears to be absolute perfection and just lovely, and he made every effort to make accommodations for us perfect. Looks so wonderful. We are so sorry that we missed being able to stay there
We just spent a whole week at this beautiful Grand Cabin, and let me tell you, this cabin easily tops all the other ones that we've been to in the last few years. To begin with, this cabin offers one of the most amazing open mountain views you can get there! And from my experience, it is not an easy task to find a nice big cabin situated in a such perfect location with vast green mountain views and the open horizon. We were three families with 5 kids in total, and this cabin was large enough to comfortably accommodate everyone! One of the best features of this cabin are the outdoor patios and the outdoor dining table with grilling and cooking station. Every morning we were enjoying our breakfast in the patio surrounded by these breathtaking views! Also, watching the sunsets from these patios was out of this world!!! It's been a long time since I've seen sunsets like that where the whole sky gets painted in orange and red, and it's all right in front of you... The cabin itself was well equipped with all the necessary kitchen and bathroom items. We really did not miss anything. Also, another nice thing was that Mr. Scott, the cabin's owner, was a very welcoming and gracious host. He took his time to answer all of our questions, also he texted a few times just to check on us, and to see if there is anything we need. We highly recommend this cabin to everyone who is looking for a fantastic cabin up there in NC mountains. Oh, and one more important detail - the drive up to the cabin was not complicated at all. Mr. Scott provided us with excellent instructions on how to find it. The road to get there was quite easy and not steep at all, which is not the case with the most cabins in high mountain altitudes.
My name is Scott Sherrod. My wife, daughter, son and I have been splitting our time between Florida and North Carolina for the past twenty years. Over this time, we've worked to create an amazing retreat for our friends and family that we now share with guests on Airbnb.
When I am not spending time hiking trails in North Carolina, I love cooking for the family, coaching track and cross country and sailing with my wife (who is an incredible sailor!). I am a blessed man and am fortunate to be a husband, father, coach and educator.
We deeply enjoy traveling and hope to visit you or host you in the future!
Why they chose this property
On top of Big Ridge mountain outside of Cashiers, a waterfall and expansive fire pit greet guests upon arrival. Walking into the cabin, a grand piano, organ, stone fireplace and large open windows draw guests in. On the extended porch, a cabin overlooks four states and the Smoky Mountains National Park. Lush hiking trails, a stocked trout pond and a vintage red barn dot the property. On the far side of the home, an outdoor grill kitchen and outdoor dining room allow for cookouts as the sun sets. Once night sets, the clear night sky is ideal for looking at stars. Serene and secluded, this cabin is a refreshing retreat tucked away in mountain nature.
