About this property
Sunset Breezes - quiet waterfront retreat
Enjoy our waterfront home styled after historic bay lighthouses. Relax by the water in a hammock under the tall pines. Gather with family and friends around the fire pit. Take in the beautiful water sights while paddling in a kayak, canoe, or paddleboard. Laugh with family and friends while playing corn hole, croquet, or bocce ball waterside. Photograph abundant wildlife - bald eagles, blue herons, osprey, deer, turkey and numerous waterfowl. Dine on the deck while enjoying beautiful sunsets.
The house is octagon shaped with the large central family area having a high ceiling and stone fireplace. The house has a relaxed, casual atmosphere with games, books and movies for rainy days or quiet evenings. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a gas barbeque grill and a gas pizza ovenon the deck. Enjoy the covered deck rain or shine, including the dining table, grill, and pizza oven.
The space is the entire second floor and includes the 13 acre property with dock, fire pit, yard and woods. The house is on a dead end road with almost no traffic and is great for walking, jogging or bike rides.
The original house living area was entirely on the second floor with garage and storage on the ground level. We added a small apartment with separate entrances and HVAC system on the ground level. We (Scott & Melinda) live in the ground level apartment. We like to say Hi to our guests and are available for questions or help, but we let our guests take the lead. We are here if you need us, but have our own space with a separate entrance. Guests have complete private use of the property. We moor a pontoon boat at the dock and occasionally take the boat out. We offer boat rides upon request.
Casson Neck is on Brooks Creek and is considered the Neck District of Cambridge, MD. The Neck District is quiet, rural, woodsy, and includes several tidal creeks. Paddle across the water, pass the next point and you're in the Little Choptank, just a short paddle to the Bay.
The flat terrain makes it great for cycling or jogging. This picturesque setting is home to several bald eagle nests a quick paddle away. Osprey, blue heron, and a variety of song birds abound. Wild turkey and whitetail deer can be seen often in the early morning hours. Sunsets over the water looking west are ever changing and beautiful.
Our personal favorite things to do: relax in the breeze, paddle on the water, watch the sunset, sit around the fire and enjoy the local seasonal seafood options.
The Ragged Point public boat ramp is a short distance across Brooks Creek. See our guidebook (https://www.airbnb.com/s/guide...)for things to do, places to eat, etc.
Public transportation is by taxi or uber.
By car, we are approximately 20 min to Cambridge restaurants and shopping, 45 minutes to Easton, 60 minutes to St Michaels, 90 minutes to Ocean City MD or Assateague State Park, 30 min to Black Water Wildlife Refuge and the Harriet Tubman Museum. See our guidebook (https://www.airbnb.com/s/guide... ) for more suggestions on places to go.
Fresh eggs are available from our on-site chickens. We have no roosters, so no noisy morning reveille.

About the host
Hosted by Scott & Melinda

Scott & Melinda love living on Brooks Creek - just a short paddle to the Chesapeake Bay. Laying in a hammock, relaxing with the bay breeze a few years ago, watching a beautiful sunset, convinced us this was where we are meant to be. We hope you fall in love with those bay breezes and incredible sunsets as well. We last lived in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York where the winters are long and cold but beautiful. We decided we needed to defrost so we moved to the also beautiful Eastern Shore.
Why they chose this property
We first experienced the Eastern Shore when we attended the Waterfowl Festival in Easton many years ago. This is a fantastic event and enjoy going every year (except 2020 COVID year). The festival is typically held the second weekend in November and is the area's signature event. We enjoy everything about the festival, especially the quality artists and of course the she-crab soup.
We now love to visit the restaurants and shops in the area's small eclectic towns of St Michaels, Easton, Oxford and Trappe. We enjoy the Chesapeake's seasonal bounties of crabs, oysters, and rockfish. Every now and then we get the urge to go to the beach and enter the hectic hustle and bustle of Ocean City and quickly remember why we love it here.
