Awesome time exploring Lake Santeelah and Fontana Lake. My grandfather grew up in Robbinsville and being up here brings me back to my chikdhood coming up here with him and my family. Just an amazing time. The charcoaled steaks were a bonus!
Even nicer than what I expected - cabin was well kept and clean...loved the location and all the extras that came along with the cabin...will definitely be back this summer..!
Life has been extremely busy and painful this year. Getting away to the mountains and having a place to just rest, relax, and have fun with family was wonderful. This was our second time to stay here and we do plan on coming back!
Dog-friendly, easy lake access and kayaks, clean space, large kitchen, nice deck/porch. cool A/C. Internet is fairly slow but we were able to stream TV shows adequately. We had a nice stay and would return.
Donna was amazing she’s a super helpful host and goes out of her way to accommodate your stay. Loved how close we where to the lake, the back yard was wonderful for a night fire (just double check for dog poop a previous guest didn’t clean up after there dog), over all this was exactly what we where looking for. We enjoyed the afternoon kayaking, and the evening fishing and hanging by the fire we woke up early to rent a boat and spend the day out on it before driving home.
The cabin was spectacularly located. Access to all things the area is noted for and a wonderful experience. We will be back. Hopefully sooner than later.
Outdoor, bike, sports car enthusiast this is the place to be.
Owner is wonderful.
Good- Great view of Lake from Upper Deck, Kayaks provided and good lake Access, Great star gazing, AC works great
Bad & The Ugly- House is surrounded by 3 abandoned properties, old RV, a junky lot and a dilapidated "Barge" in the water, the outside of the property needs some TLC, dish washing and paper supplies were sparse
This is a very cute little property; photos are accurate, and having the kayaks was awesome. Donna the host responded to messages very quickly and was very friendly. We had everything we needed, including tons of towels :) The only minor downsides are that the property is located right next to the main road and a bridge, and there is a lot of loud motorcycle noise (obviously the host cannot help that), and the internet is VERY slow; we were unable to stream any shows on the smart TV or our laptops, not use out hotspot as cell service for both T-Mobile and Verizon was very spotty; again, this is in no way the fault of the host). We enjoyed ourselves!
This is a cozy cottage with some views of the lake, but there are a couple of other houses between the cottage and the lake. The highway is very close and the location is between the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway, two motorcycle bucket list roads, so the noise is a regular part of the atmosphere. Some of the nearby properties have messy yards that the owner probably cannot help. There were some nice touches to items furnished for comfort, but also some sparseness.. For example, only two dinner plates, only salad forks that were smaller than usual to eat with, no can opener, the grate that holds the charcoal in the grill is missing and there are no appropriate tools for grilling or lighter to light the charcoal. The property could use some maintenance such as power washing the porch and deck and washing of the windows. It's definitely an older structure, but considering the cost of other houses in the area, this place gives good value for the price. With a few additions and a little elbow grease, it could be awesome.

Disappointment
Totally disappointing. I normally don't give bad reviews of any vacation rental, but this one deserves to be seen by anyone who tries to rent it. We were supposed to stay 3 nights, but could only stand 2 nights.
There is a distinct and overwhelming odor as soon as you walk in the door. It smells of cigarette smoke and a wet dog. We had to buy air fresheners, febreeze and even put vinegar out to help absorb the smell. There were mice that came to visit us and ate our food. There is a hole in the floor covered by the laundry basket. Cabinet doors fall off when opened. TV only works sporadically. This place needs to be freshened up because it feels dark and dingy.
However, that being said, the property manager did refund us one nights stay and ask for suggestions to help.
With some TLC, this would be a great place to stay.
Do you love the smell of marijuana in the morning? Boy do I have the property for you!
Come get away in the rustic mountains of Western North Carolina where the weeds are waist high! The amenities include:
A terrible gravel driveway that’s half washed out in a sketchy cutback curve. You probably will not be able to make if you don’t own an SUV or Truck.
The rustic smell of weed that smacks you in the face the second you open the door.
Love no cell service and promised Wi-Fi when, surprise, there is no Wi-Fi!
Windows with broken screens on most of the windows, if they have a screen at all, to let out all the weed smell and let in all the insects you can imagine.
A fully functioning window A/C unit complete with mold.
A view to die for of overgrown trees, and an abandoned house blocking the lake.
Lake access through someone else’s property.
Don’t forget about the fresh green weeds growing at least waist high all around the property, including the back yard!
Ants and various other insects roaming both inside and out.
A back yard full of weeds, an unkept retaining wall of rocks perfectly suited for a family of snakes!
It’s pet friendly! The backyard is fully fenced in with chairs or rocks patching up the holes and a single piece of 1x12” board to keep your pet from escaping.
I promise you you’ll leave it better than you found it! You’ll pay for rustic and you’ll get unkept.
Happy travels! :D
We had an awesome time at the lake house! The dogs loved roaming around the fire pit while we made smores with hot chocolate!!!! Close to everything but far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet!!!
