About this property

April - get a free night when you book 2!

Fall in love with the beauty of Lake Nantahala, second highest lake east of the Mississippi, and enjoy our cozy lake cottage that has charm, comfort and style with direct access to your own private dock. We renovate with our guests' comfort in mind. Easy parking and access to the house. Our back deck is in the treetops and enjoy the view. We are on a mountain lake and you must walk down the mountain to reach our dock. Breathe in the beauty, soak it up, unplug and leave feeling refreshed.

Enter the gated community of Nantahala Shores. Drive up and park easily (3 cars - no 4wd needed but it is a single lane, gravel mountain road). Descend the 5 stairs down to enter into Treetop Lake Cottage and enjoy feeling at home. One large open room for living, dining and cooking make entertaining easy and memories created. Enjoy streaming your own shows on the large flat screen smart TV (no cable). Internet is provided through Frontier DSL (slow and reliable) and Viasat (fast but sometimes weather dependent). Wifi enabled calling allows for cell service in an otherwise no cell signal area. Zoom calls or important work items it is best to plan to go into town but two internet options are available and normally fairly sufficient.
(*water levels do drop during the off season - our dock stays floating on water but the gangplank will angle down as a result and might not be suitable for all.)
The master bedroom has a king bed with it's own ensuite bathroom. No one needs to worry about running out of hot water as we installed a tankless water heater. Located in the master bathroom is a large closet with room for a pack'n'play (pack n play we provide) and it's own private tub/shower toilet room. On the opposite side of the house are 2 guest rooms sharing a hall bathroom. One guest room features a Queen bed. The other lake side guest room features 2 sets of twin bunk beds and a full bed. Pile the kids in to sleep 6 deep or if traveling with friends - every room has a couple’s bed so no one gets the “short” straw. We can comfortably sleep 6-7 adults.
The back deck has furniture to spread out on - enjoy some wine on our new patio furniture or a dining table for 8 for al fresco meals and a view.
Parking by the street makes access very easy to the house and to unload groceries! As a result, reaching the lake is a hike down the mountain ie, many stairs - 170 - it just means you can have your cake and eat it too this week. If someone in your party can't hike the stairs, the public boat launch is at the entrance to the neighborhood and is easy access for boats and those not wanting to use the stairs. As a mom, I love that my kids can't sneak out to quickly reach the lake and the climb down and back makes sure they sleep well. But we fully disclose that there are many stairs to reach our private dock. If this is a problem which you will rate us negatively on, please book elsewhere as we work hard to earn 5 stars on things we can control and things we can’t control, we fully disclose.
Once on the dock, soak in the view or bring your boat to explore!. We have lake toys guests can use - 4 inflatable paddle boards that can carry up to 330 lb and a sit on top kayak. We provide several variety adult life jackets and kid life jackets all with safety lake whistles. Get out and enjoy the lake. Paddle board to explore the lakes, the islands with a picnic or the rope swing, or call in for pizza at Lakes End and have delivered to the dock! Explore this beautiful lake and fall in love with the pristine beauty like we have. Bring your fishing poles, rent a boat for the week and have it delivered to the dock, head to the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) for white water rafting, fly fish the area, ride some horses, read a book or head into nearby Andrew’s for grocery shopping or dinner. Too many trails to list close by to hike or just walk down our street into the Nantahala National Forest. This is a remote area full of beauty yet whether it’s a family looking to create memories or friends catching up - we hope Treetop Lake Cottage meets all your expectations and more. We can not make our stairs magically disappear or create cell service in the Nantahala National Forest -but if our house sounds like a good match, we would love to host you at Lake Nantahala - it truly is a special place.

Parking is easy - drive up and park. Parking for 3 cars easily, 4 small cars possibly but tight. Please be mindful of our off-street parking and do not take neighbor's parking space. Our property lines are marked with orange survey tape. Do not use neighbors driveways to turn around or to park in. Turn around is at end of street.

We do not live close by but are seasoned hosts and renovate with guests comfort in mind. We have people on hand that live in the area should you need anything, we are just a message away.

Treetop Lake Cottage is located in the gated community of Nantahala Shores Neighborhood. - some full time residents and some vacation rentals - please be respectful especially after 10 pm with outside noise. We are lakefront with our own private dock and lake toys like paddleboards. Walk out the door to the left and stumble into Nantahala National Forest. Kayak, Paddle Board, rent a boat, bring your fishing rods... so much to do on this beautiful lake... 40 minutes away explore the NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center) for an exciting White Water Rafting trip, head into Andrews (20 minutes away) for a grocery run, essentials or dinner... or explore nature in any direction. Outside of Nantahala Shores neighborhood is a public boat ramp that is another great amenity guests can enjoy if you want to launch your own boat and bring it to our dock.

The closest town is the town of Andrews 20 minutes away for the grocery store, abc store or misc items and basic but good dining or head further away to check out Murphy, Franklin, Harrah's Casino or the NOC (Nantahala Outdoor Center - 40 minutes).

We would like to reiterate we want to earn a 5 star review. We provide the best internet available at this time - 50 mbps satellite internet and our only other option, frontier dsl. Two services, one fast and one slow. Sometimes satellite internet is dependent on weather. Slow DSL works as our back up to ensure guests always have cell service and internet options. We are a mountain lake cottage with both views and a private dock. We can not control the number of stairs. If these things will negatively affect your stay with us, please do not book with us. We can only control what we can control and work hard to keep our reviews high to make sure our cottage is a great fit for our guests to enjoy a great time away.

Peaceful
This newly renovated home was exactly as described. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, watching boaters and seeing the mist on the mountain across the lake. The paddle boards are conveniently stored on the dock, along with the kayaks and a good assortment of life jackets. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a quiet getaway.

Amazing property
Highly recommend, stairs to the lake are legit, but well worth the effort. We loved paddle boarding and swimming. Thanks for a great experience!
