Deluxe Waterfront Cottage on Somes Sound

Built in 2005, our beautiful cottage, just steps from the beach, has every amenity to make your stay in Southwest Harbor a delight, beginning with its ideal setting on Somes Sound. It is a perfect place to relax while enjoying the beauty and activities of Acadia National Park and the quaint Mt. Desert Island villages. Treat yourself to an oh-so-fresh Maine lobster, watch sailboats drifting by, and enjoy the other activities, sights and experiences that Mt. Desert and Acadia National Park offer.

The large deck is a perfect place to grill or to watch the busy activity on the ocean. Step down from the deck to the shore on a soft pine needle path. Enjoy the home's beautiful professional landscaping. Walk to the charming village of Southwest Harbor or to the free Island Explorer bus which will carry you and your bikes throughout Mt. Desert and Acadia National Park.

The house has three bedrooms, primary with a king bed and ensuite bathroom, secondary bedrooms, one with queen bed and one with two sets of bunk beds. There are two modern bathrooms, each with double marble sinks, one with washer/dryer. The large open plan living/kitchen area has wonderful views , skylights, decorator designed furnishings, top of the line kitchen appliances and granite counter tops. The living room is open and airy with cathedral ceiling and huge glass doors and windows opening to the deck and Somes Sound.

Also provided: wireless internet. Central thermostat-controlled heat – cozy for cool evenings and cooler times of year.

We absolutely loved our time staying here- the location was a great home base for exploring Acadia, and the house itself is beautiful with gorgeous views from the deck. The entire family enjoyed being able to visit the little beach and scramble on the rocks. Anne provided a lot of helpful information about the area and the park which we found incredibly useful as this was our first visit to the area- she was also quick to respond to questions during our stay when needed. We hope to come back soon!

Our host provided detailed instructions and recommendations that made every part of our experience run smoothly. The property was beautiful and super convenient toOur favorite places on the “quiet side.”The private beach was a little gem and our two and a half year old loved searching for hermit crabs and sea glass. The window seat and couches and outdoor space all provided a cozy place to land after active days.! It was our 9th consecutive stay in Acadia and this property was by far the nicest place we’ve stayed. We hope to rent here for our future trips again!

Wonderful location!

We had a great stay. Wonderful location is quiet with beautiful water view. It’s central enough to get to great restaurants, nearby hikes and Acadia park with short drives.

Wonderful stay in a beautiful location

The house is spacious, very comfortable and nicely decorated. We loved being able to walk down to the lovely little beach with morning coffee, a good book or evening drinks. An easy walk into town and a perfect location to enjoy the quiet side of the island! Anne was friendly and helpful whenever we had questions. A wonderful stay.

What a gorgeous place, and it’s located in an equally gorgeous location. We can’t imagine a better base for a trip to Acadia NP; you’re right in the middle of the action, but without the madness of Bar Harbor. The “Bunkhouse” is absolutely beautiful, fully equipped, filled with sunlight and totally private. It’s a gem.

Location is everything. We loved that it was just a hop, skip and jump to the beach. Nights were beautiful with a full moon. Everything was close by. No more than a 1/2 hour to anything we wanted to do. Quiet neighborhood with a Lobster Resturant within walking distance. Five stars for us.

Stunning 😍 oceanfront cottage

Quiet SW Harbor cottage town. Perfect for a getaway for families wanting to enjoy the deck and rocky beachfront. Lots to do in Acadia National Park only 25-30 minutes away. Would definitely come back for some much needed rest and relaxation.

Lovely 3 BR 2 bath home on Somes Sound in SW Harbor on the quiet side of Mt Desert Island. It was very private with landscaped gardens that led down to a small beach This home was well equipped and with comfortable beds and a deck off the living room to enjoy morning coffee and listen to the birds. It was a perfect place to stay with friends - everything on one floor. The host was very helpful with recommended hikes and restaurants and grocery shopping. I’d definitely stay here again and not far from all the activity of the Loop and Bar Harbor.It is little slice of heaven.

Gorgeous home and view!

We had an amazing stay at this property! The house is lovely-well laid out with a great common area and 3 very nice bedrooms. Maine in October

Kids timed the shore, dad read on the deck, gramma imagined the rhododendrons in bloom - excellent all the way around. Maine does not disappoint nor does this retreat !

Spacious Waterfront Retreat

We stayed 2 weeks and it really was a great spot if you do not want to be in the hustle and bustle. We loved being able to walk right down to the beach which had the most amazing views. The cabin is spacious and has everything you need for your stay. The only downfall for us was we did find ourselves driving into bar harbor to keep our 4 year old twins occupied as they have more activities for younger kids.

Holiday Weekend in Southwest Harbor

My parents and I had a lovely long weekend at the Bunkhouse in Southwest Harbor. We arrived after dark, so it was a nice surprise to wake up to a sunrise view of the Sound. The park was particularly busy this time of year, so we enjoyed having a quiet place to escape the crowds after a day out. The house was well-appointed and as described, and would easily sleep eight, although we enjoyed it with three.

Wonderful stay for families

This was a perfect place to stay with a family! The beach just a minute walk down the hill in front of the house provided lots of hours of entertainment and downtown SW Harbor is just a 15 minute walk. House had everything we needed to cook meals. Anne was very kind and suggested a babysitter locally so that we could go to the Claremont Hotel for dinner a couple of nights during the week. Babysitter was wonderful and highly recommend the Claremont (.2 miles away). Thank you Anne!

Great Autumn Getaway on the Quiet Side

This was our second stay at this wonderful property. Comfortable, very well appointed and equipped, gorgeous setting and view in a wooded lot on Somes Sound. Easy walk to SW Harbor and its stores, restaurants, etc. Modern kitchen in a spacious and comfortable great room. The host lives nearby and is friendly and accommodating. The house feels a bit like a camp because of all the wood (which is of superb quality!) and the use of appointments from days gone by, but is in fact spacious and modern with all the conveniences. We thoroughly enjoyed this place and plan to return.

nice location, but no internet

The cottage is in a secluded neighborhood, yet very close to town. There is a lovely, but limited, view of Somes Sound. The grounds are beautifully tended. Our only complaint was that there was no internet during our entire stay. This was extremely inconvenient. Although we informed the caretaker and the owner of the problem, there was no attempt to fix it.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our cottage! The accessibility of Spectrum’s internet was indeed an issue. Fortunately, this problem has been basically nonexistent in the past. I’m sorry that you do not recall our conversations or my visit to the house when you rebooted the system - which sadly was not sufficient to restore service! Spectrum was overwhelmed with issues and was not able to arrive until Saturday at which time they successfully fixed everything - - but sadly, after you had left. The only ray of good news here is that in your and my conversations you told me that you could access the Internet through your mobile cell phone although that’s not the preferred way to do it. I sincerely apologize for Spectrum and the understandable disappointment you felt.

Our family had a wonderful week at this beautiful retreat! Tucked away off a quiet street, surrounded by trees and ferns, and with a view of Somes Sound from the main living space and large deck, we could not have found a more perfect place as our home base in exploring Acadia.Our four year old granddaughters loved looking for shells on the beach. Their parents and grandparents enjoyed watching the sun rise over the water.....what a gorgeous view from the beach area! The cottage is great, wood everywhere, efficiently designed with all the modern amenities, well stocked, and very clean. The restaurants and shops of Southwest Harbor are only a short walk or drive away. We had some great dinners at Cafe Too, enjoyed shopping at the Acadia Quietside store, and sampled many treats at Little Notch. Anne, our host, could not have been more helpful! Anne supplied us with extensive lists of suggestions for hikes, restaurants, and basically, all things Acadia. Her tips and suggestions were invaluable, especially for our hikes. She kindly left a child carrier for our use while hiking. Thank you Anne! We hope to come back to your family's lovely "Bunkhouse" in the future so we can further explore the breathtaking Acadia.Thank you so much for sharing it with us! Elizabeth B.

Perfect and Peaceful

We had such a great time here in this well equipped waterfront property. Great communication to know what we had available to us and plan accordingly for our needs. Big lobster pot in the house and live lobsters available right around the corner from the fisherman. Quiet surroundings right behind the coast guard station and a stroll down to the beach to watch the boats coming through. Beds were comfortable, water pressure great, nice weber grill, and comfortable patio furniture. We will be back. We wanted to be away from the crowds, while close to the park and the trails. This was dynamite! Also recommend the Blueberry pie from the Little Notch! Sail Acadia for the Friendship sloop sail at sunset was also a great add for us. Enjoy

Beautiful property, great location

We have visited SW Harbor regularly for many decades but this was our first rental. The house and the grounds were great, well designed and maintained, beautiful and comfortable at the same time. Amenities were above and beyond, with little details that indicate the property has been lived in. The location is amazing, completely secluded while within an easy walk of "downtown" SW Harbor. Water view is framed by trees but the shoreline is completely accessible by a short walk through the back yard. Perfect. We'll be back soon.

A Peaceful Oasis

Summer in Maine! Whatever you have heard is true. We discoverd Mt. Desert Island, Acadia National Park and Southwest Harbor in the 1970's and every summer has been wonderful. So many things to do. Never enough time, so we have to return year after year.

What makes this property unique

The house is steps from Somes Sound with beach to play, wade and enjoy lots of activity. There are lobster boats working daily. In summer, sailboat races go by most afternoons.
