Home away from home

We were pleasantly impressed with the location (disconnected from hustle but yet close enough), the home (loved the decor, the attention to detail, all the extra items that were available, the spacious sleeping quarters), the animals/pets and ofcourse… the views!!Erika and John were so attentive starting from the time I booked, to helping me locate a tire shop that was open (they called ahead of my arrival to make sure it was open) to teaching me how to work my manual gears in my own car (first time in the mountains) and providing a list of local events and activities. We truly enjoyed our short stay at The Retreat and would return if ever we plan to go back to Colorado.
Coffee with a wonderful view and 55 degrees (definitely not Texas 😂)
She wanted to bring him home 😂

Fall Break With College Age Kids

We had a great time staying with our college age twins for a few days together. The house was very clean and the area was beautiful. We all had plenty of room and privacy. We missed not having a television for about one day then quickly got over it. We were gone daily to Pikes Peak, The Royal Gorge Bridge, or Garden of the Gods. We cooked at night and had a great time being together.

Absolutely wonderful!

Let me start by saying, If I could give Erika more than 5 stars, I would! I brought my parents on this trip, once we arrived, my Mom was having a terrible time breathing. To the point we considered leaving and I reached out to Erika, she was so kind and willing to help in any way that she could. My parents left and my husband and I ended up staying. The house was amazing, the view and birds were nothing short of stellar! The only thing I will mention to take note of when booking, there are no TV’s in the house.

Tranquil, Peace and Quiet, Perfect Get Away

We had no idea how being in this special place helped. us turn down the noise in our life. The property is so beautiful, well taken care for, comfortable. The view, the stars, the wildlife, the presence of beauty, all exist here. The pics does not do this property justice. Several fun little towns with history and special events are nearby. Our recommendation is to have an extended stay and take it all in.

A Relaxing, Wonderful Time

Beautiful, clean property with a luxurious feel. Our family was able to spend some quality time together and connect through playing games and reading a variety of books at the cabin. Our kids loved the surrounding outdoors; all the beautiful views, hikes and birds to see. The cabin had so many thoughtful touches and details that it made our stay simple and enjoyable. (Flashlights, coffee and tea, great cookware to make meals together.) The deck has stunning views and was our favorite place to rest together. Overall it was a great place to relax and reconnect with my family. Thank you for the great stay!

Fantastic Family Getaway

Kids and adults loved hiking in the backyard and nearby state parks. When not hiking we relaxed on the deck with breathtaking views. Fully stocked kitchen for cooking. We enjoyed games, local books and puzzles. Would definitely go again.

Wonderful Property

We had an amazing experience staying at this property. We had 8 people with us, including 4 teenagers, and 2 elderly. The house had everything you could ever need or want! Waking up every morning having a cup of coffee or a glass of in the evening on the deck, couldn’t have been any more gorgeous! Would absolutely recommend this house!!!

About the host

Hosted by Erika Lehmann

Host profile image
We're Colorado transplants with a deep love for nature and the outdoors. John is a geologist from London, and Erika, originally from Pennsylvania, now runs Mustang Wisdom, our on-site equine program. We have 7 children, all of whom are grown now, with just two older teens still living on the property. We all enjoy the beauty and tranquility of life at Starry Ridge.

Our goal in hosting is simple: to provide our guests with a peaceful retreat, offering a much-needed break from the stresses of city and suburban life. Whether it's relaxing in the serene surroundings or exploring the land, we want you to feel recharged and rejuvenated during your stay.

In addition to the beauty of the land, we’ve embraced eco-friendly practices, such as using our goats for natural fire mitigation. Rather than relying on herbicides, our goats help control vegetation and reduce fire risk, all while providing a peaceful, sustainable solution to land management.

Why they chose this property

We were looking for a vacation home with plenty of space for our children to explore and enjoy the fresh mountain air. When we discovered Starry Ridge, we instantly fell in love with the breathtaking views of Pikes Peak, the magnificent rock formations, the high meadows, and the hidden picnic spots. Every year, we seem to uncover a new gem or a clue to the property's rich history—this land was once home to the Ute people and later used for historic ranching.

What began as a vacation retreat quickly became our full-time home because we found it so hard to leave. We've heard the same from our VRBO guests—they never want to leave! We find joy in every corner of this land, whether it's hiking the trails, relaxing by the seasonal stream, or simply watching the sunset together as a family.

What makes this property unique

At Starry Ridge, there’s truly something for everyone. The expansive 1,000 sq. ft. deck, surrounded by towering pines, firs, and junipers, is the perfect spot for a family BBQ, while the kids enjoy a lively game of ping-pong. Afterward, take a scenic hike up the mountain, where you'll find high meadows ideal for a friendly match of badminton or croquet.

Throughout the property, you'll encounter our friendly horses, playful goats, and loyal livestock guardian dogs, who are an integral part of the ranch experience. Guests can interact with the horses and goats, but to ensure their safety and well-being, guests are not permitted to cross fences into their pens unless they are participating in a host-guided activity.

Whether you’re relaxing and stargazing, exploring the hidden trails, or soaking in breathtaking views of Pikes Peak and the majestic rock formations, every corner of Starry Ridge offers a unique connection with nature. From secret picnic spots to glimpses of the land’s fascinating history, Starry Ridge promises a truly special retreat.
