Just what we needed!
The house has a special vibe from the early-60's, especially in the kitchen, which was retro yet functional. The 'study' with the sliding door out to the backyard was conducive to reading, conversation, and the occasional card game. The backyard itself, with a large shady tree, is perfect for staying cool on hot days. The neighborhood is mostly quiet -- there were some house renovation noises from the lot behind -- but this is to be expected in the booming town of Eastham, and weren't there to hear much of it anyway, as we were enjoying the Cape to its fullest. The location was very convenient for visiting family on the ocean-side and the beach, and as a cyclist, I love riding on the back roads as well as on the rail trail. I've been an ocean-side summer resident my entire life, and it is encouraging to find that the bay-side is just as comfortable and renewing.
Exactly what we've been looking for!
Perfect location, perfect size and perfect layout. The price is very good for it's location and size. My wife, daughter and myself stayed the second week in August and were completely comfortable. The neighborhood is very quiet and the yard is private. We rode our bikes down to Sunken Meadow beach everyday which took only a few minutes and was able to leave them in the garage at night. We also rode to the flea market at the drive-in, Arnold's and the Barn, all short rides from the house. I'm ready to book for next year! Thank you for opening your home to us.
So glad you enjoyed the house and Sunken Meadow Beach, Ray. Happy you could enjoy getting around on your bikes. Your kind words are appreciated.
Peaceful and lovely cottage
We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. If you are like me and spent childhood summers at the Cape, this will remind you of the cottages you used to stay in, right down to the old board games, puzzles, books, and awesome old stereo. No frills, but clean and cute and with everything you need. Kitchen is old but has pretty much every tool and appliance you can think of. The a/c was nice to have in one bedroom; I would recommend bringing a few fans for the other bedroom and other areas of the house, as it got very hot in the afternoons and of course the Cape is always humid (they do provide one box fan). Just about the only thing I’d add to the house is a ceiling fan in the lovely porch to help the air flow. Outdoor shower was a highlight - we barely even used the indoor one! Could use a few minor updates (I.e., some very wobbly end tables had legs falling off, a kitchen cabinet that wouldn’t close, maybe some comfier patio furniture, etc.) but overall I hope they don’t change this place too much! Backyard is private and shady. Location is perfect- convenient to Rt 6 but far enough away that you can’t hear it. Sunken Meadow Beach (less than 10 min walk) is a hidden gem and perfect for our young son. It was never crowded. At high tide it’s beautiful swimming, and low tide you can walk out and look for shellfish (and mid tide was great snorkeling!!). Water is clear and warm.
One other note: the cottage is located on a sandy road that is very bumpy in places. We had an SUV so this was no problem. I did see some neighbors with regular cars, so it may be fine, but just a heads up!
Overall, if you are looking for a place you can really relax, disconnect from the world, and relive your childhood Cape memories, I would highly recommend this cottage! Thanks for a great stay!!
Clean, good location, poorly furnished
The location of this house is great. It is well up the Cape and very near a bay side beach. It is clean and well maintained. The biggest draw backs may have more to do with what I have enjoyed in the past in summer rentals. In the past I have stayed in summer rentals that are tastefully furnished and comfortable. This is where this house is lacking. Frankly, a couple thousand dollars and a trip to Ikea could furnish this house to be cute as a button. To end on a bright note, it is a great place for a small family that will spend most of the time on the beach or walking nature trails and not really in the house.
We are glad you liked the location of the house, Margaret, and that you found it clean and well maintained. Each year we work on a different project. This year’s project was a new roof and gutters for the house and garage, as well as a new circuit breaker box. We will continue to replace furnishings and equipment. We hope you will consider revisiting the house in future years as we continue to make it a wonderful vacation destination.
Great classic Cape Cod cottage
Overall, we had a terrific stay. Great location, comfortable, well-equipped kitchen, very quiet. Easy walk to the beach. House has quirks; locks on outside doors are difficult to open. But we'd definitely rent this place again.
Thanks for the review. We will work on the locks this fall! :) Glad you had a good stay.
