The neighborhood:
The house is ideally located in Bordeaux, in a very pleasant environment. You'll be close to all the essential shops, as well as boutiques, restaurants, bars, markets...
Villa 4 You is a 15-minute walk from the Cité du Vin. With its Quai des marques à prix d'usine, alternative boutiques, art studios and antique stores, Les Chartrons is a pleasant neighborhood in which to stroll. The living environment is relaxing and of the highest quality. The district is home to one of France's leading organic markets. On Rue Notre-Dame, the atmosphere is that of a village, with flowers, conviviality and a bohemian spirit. The district attracts families for the quality and number of its green spaces, for its liveliness and for its ideal location in relation to other Bordeaux districts, the transport network, cultural spaces and schools or universities.
A little history:
The old faubourg of Chartrons is the historic stronghold of wine merchants. Its history is also marked by colonial trade. The most distant origins of the district, to which it owes its name, date back to the 14ᵉ century when a community of Carthusian monks settled here. The great Flemish, Irish and English merchant families arrived here in the 17ᵉ century. By the 18ᵉ, the port of Lune was the most important in France. In the 19ᵉ century, Bordeaux's wine-growing vocation was at its peak, and the district was home to the area's leading merchants. Neglected after the Second World War, the Chartrons district found a new lease of life at the dawn of the 21ᵉ century: its handsome facades have now been restored, and its pleasant alleyways abound with antique shops, art galleries and home decoration stores. Facing the Garonne River, the former negociants whose wide porches once allowed barrels to pass through are now welcoming bistros and other restaurants.
