Our traditional thatched Irish cottage is well over 200 years old and very cozy. It lies on a small mountain above the fish-rich Lough Allua and is equipped with a small kitchen for self-sufficiency. There are several holiday apartments of the same style for a total of approx. 20 guests on the property and each has its own entrance and is absolutely quiet and private. Right across the courtyard you can also order a 3-course menu, packed lunches and breakfast at moderate prices in our restaurant - so if you don't feel like taking care of yourself. All our cottages have central gas heating and the consumption is calculated with a gas meter . The usage varies a lot and the cost can be anything between € 1,- and €5,-per day . The current gas price in Ireland is standing at €4,-per cubic meter (unit price), and has to be paid at the end of your stay . Please bring your own towels, as with a full occupancy of up to 20 guests , we find it very difficult to supply them along with the bed linen and kitchen towels , which are supplied free of charge . If you are not in a position to supply your own towels , you may rent them at a €1,- a piece .

Greg makes a good shepardspie
Greg and his partner are lovely people. Greg made us a lovely diner on our arrival. The pretty cottage is 240 years old. The interieur is about 40 years old. It could do with an update. Especially the shower, kitchen, and matras. We did not know about cost for heating. It should have been on the Vbro website. So we did not have to. pay that. That was nice.

Wouldn’t recommend
It’s obvious that VRBO does not verify the accuracy of the listings. The pictures online have to be at least 15 if not 20 years old. When we first checked in, we were in the smaller cottage, which is pretty dark and dank. The bathroom, literally about 4 foot wide and 10 foot long was very uncomfortable. The floor sweat so bad that you couldn’t walk into the bathroom without getting your feet wet. The owner moved us to a larger unit, right next-door, Which was much better, but still not very clean. The sheets smelled like sweat and the unit was just overall not very clean. When we asked to exchange the sheets for some clean ones, we got some pushback from the owners. We had rented the unit for a month, but we left a week early, no refund and argument from the owner over some of the charges. That was fine and we paid what they asked. But we won’t return. We stayed there as long as we could, because we knew that we would not get a refund at that late date leaving early. But then we were shocked at the end of the stay by the charge for heating oil.Even losing a week rental cost, we were still very happy to leave and get into something cleaner.By the way, it says on the site that you can ride horses, but the horses are too old to ride at this point.
I loved everything about Tir na Spideoga. I felt right at home. It was quiet, casual and simple. I used my two bedroom cottage as my base camp for the month I was in Ireland. Greg and Ziggy were wonderful hosts and so helpful. If you enjoy the countryside and peacefulness, this is for you.
Beautiful cottages and location. Not too far from places we wanted to visit, such as Gougane Barra and Glengarriff. Lovely walks and days out. Need a car as not in walking distance to nearest town. Ziggy was very welcoming and helpful.
Lieben Dank für die wunderbare Betreuung, das leckere Essen und die guten Tipps! Das Cottage ist alt aber gemütlich und liegt an einem schönen abgelegenen Ort. Ruhe ist garantiert. Die Landschaft ist grossartig.
We stayed 3 nights at this cute thatched roof country cottage. Owners were super friendly. Was a neat experience! The country side in this area was beautiful!!
Greg & Ziggy are brilliant hosts who have thought of their visitors every need & nothing is too much trouble, it was amazing to stay in a historical 200 yr old thatched cottage which Greg has lovingly restored with just the right balance between orginal & modern facilities 😍
The food Ziggy cooked very reasonable prices was delicous every single time, so much so i requested her gorgeous Shepherds Pie again for our last supper 😘
Thank you so much for allowing us to share your idyllic retreat, we had theeee best time 🙌
Tír Na Spideoga was as close to going native as you can get short of buying your own house. Gregg and his wife were inviting, charming and perfect hosts. The short drive into Inchigeelagh and proprietor Joe Creedon of Creedon's hotel with great food and a pint or two to end the day. Cork is an hour away for those like us doing genealogy research.
My family and I needed somewhere to stay for one night while traveling through County Cork, and we are so happy to have found this lovely cottage. It was so quiet and so private, and it was very clean and comfortable. They were welcoming of our two dogs as well, which was appreciated. Would definitely stay here again if we are going through County Cork again
My husband, friend and I traveled from the USA and wanted an authentic stay in Ireland. Greg and Sigi are wonderful hosts.
The property is pretty, in the hills, with a view of the valley below. Getting there is quite the challenge, with one way winding roads, and it is further than we had imagined from any sizable town. One road that Google took us down on our way to Kilarney was an unpaved, single lane, windmill service path.
The cottage was rustic but charming. We chose to have dinner there one evening, and it was 3 courses and simply fantastic. Sigi is quite the cook!
For Irish people looking for a getaway with family and friends, this is the perfect spot for you. You can schedule fishing trips, rent bikes and kayaks, and snuggle up and watch movies or play games at night.
If you are from out of the country - you may be better off choosing somewhere closer to larger towns with more amenities.
Nicely done 200 + year old stone cottage. If you want to see the real Ireland and possibly pull the largest pike you have seen out of a pristine mountain lake this is the place.
Had a lovely four days in this 200 year old village. The place oozes character. We went kayaking on the lake two days and it was lovely, one of the nicest lakes in the country. There are lots of little places to sit and look over the magnificent views or just relax.
There are plenty of walks nearby and the location is perfect for touring that part of the country. Gougane Barra is near and is well worth a visit.
The hosts provide breakfast and dinner. Great value and lovely beautifully prepared food. Greg and Siggy are very friendly and take time to answer any questions or indeed just have a chat.
Would certainly recommend this listing and would return again.
Greg and his wife very accommodating. We had dinner there it was lovely .Great for families .horse riding, fishing, canoeing.or just relax.cant wait to go again
