Up a private drive and nestled behind a tiny forest sits the Big Blue House on Lake Huron; the perfect place for large groups or families to have a relaxing and fun retreat. There’s plenty of space for all in our open-concept house which features 6 bedrooms that can sleep a total of 14 people (15 if you include the crib that’s in one of the rooms). With a full kitchen, spacious great room and first floor laundry, this is your home away from home.
Take in the majesty of Lake Huron from the covered patio, covered porch, fire pit, 120 feet of sugar sand private beach front, or simply from the comfort of inside the house. Watch breath-taking sunrises and sunsets during the day and count the stars as the moonlight dances on the lake on the brightest of nights. If the conditions are right, you might also be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the northern lights.
Fun and activities are in full supply at the Big Blue House on Lake Huron. In the warmer months, you can cool off in the sandy-bottomed lake that is also great for boating. There’s also beach volleyball, kayaking and paddle-boarding. Sand toys are provided for the kids and the kids at heart. When you’re ready for a change of pace or are staying in the cooler months, take a nice long walk along the beach for some light rock and glass collecting while watching for freighters off in the distance. Get your heart pumping while shooting hoops on the basketball net or use the driveway for bike riding or 4-square. Then step onto the lush grass for bocce ball, croquet, frisbee or one of the many other games that are provided.
Stay cozy indoors with a wood-burning fire while playing one of the many board games available or watch a movie on one of the smart TVs. Then head downstairs to the game room for ping-pong, cards or mini roulette.
Want to get in a little shopping or grab a bite? Both downtown Tawas and downtown Oscoda are just a 10-15 minute car ride away. How about some sight-seeing? Tawas Point State Park where you can bird watch, walk or bike the trails, or visit the magnificent Tawas Point Lighthouse is also just 10-15 minutes away.

The house is big enough for our family girls trip which is usually 12-14 although this year we were short 4 girlsvery well stocked ,beds were comfortable and there is a game room downstairs! Actually, this is probably the best house we have rented in the past 6 years.people
The property easily met our expectations made for a most enjoyable getaway. Host, Kyle, was very accommodating and responsive to any/all questions and requests.
Highly recommend this to anyone.
Had 12 guys play some golf and stay at the house. Kyle is excellent with communication and the house is equipped with everything you need. Great place.
Had an amazing girls weekend at the property. Everything needed for a 10/10 experience was there. We grilled, enjoyed the bonfire, and relaxed on the beach. Very nice house with plenty of seating and space for a large group. Highly recommend this property.
We loved the house with all the comfy chairs, the large table and roomy kitchen. The bedrooms were large and the beds very comfortable. Having four bathrooms was great and the view of the lake was priceless. Kyle was a super host and always responded quickly. The men in the group loved the pinball machine saying it took them back to their teens. We would love to stay here often, it was perfect for us.
We had 11 ladies all in their 60's. The house was a perfect fit. Plenty of room to gather. Loved the very large dinning table that could accommodate all of us at one time. Having the bike trail right in front of the property was very nice. We would stay again!

Great location
Easy to get to restaurants, stores and attractions. Beautiful views on the water. Some modernizing has occurred. More comfort needs (bedroom curtains in master and lighting) is required. Maintenance and basic cleaning need more attention.

The property is excellent, beautiful beach, off the road great for children, enough yard to play yard games, nice vollyball court in the sand, large kitchen and eating area open for games at night. The best place we've ever stayed, had a great time can't wait to do it again!
This cottage was just what we needed, plenty of space for everyone, huge dining room table to fit the entire extended family. The beach is fantastic and they supply plenty of stuff to really enjoy it like paddle board, kayaks, sand toys etc. Can't wait to stay there again!
Wonderful! Great family rental! The beach was beautiful with a nice sandy bottom in the lake. Very nice fire pit, sand volleyball court, and covered porches. Large living spaces for a big family. Doesn’t get much better than this.
Excellent place for big family or business retreat
Perfect on the beach large house with all the amenities. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked.
One suggestion is bring extra surge protectors the outlets are very old and don’t hold the plug.
My family gathered here to celebrate Christmas. The property was beautiful and so accommodating! We were all comfortable in our rooms and enjoyed every minute. The property was close to town yet we felt secluded. We will definitely stay here again!
We had a wonderful time at this vacation rental. There were plenty of kayaks, a paddle board, sand toys, bicycles and indoor toys for our grandchildren. The house is very spacious and accommodating. The only issue we had was that we had to wash up the sheets for the bunk beds and one of the beds in the basement because they were not clean. We also had to sweep the floor and wash down a few areas because they were dirty. We brought our own coffee maker because mine is a 12 cup but I was glad I did, because the coffee maker was dirty. I think perhaps the cleaning crew may have taken the day off. With that being said, I would for sure go back because the property is amazing and so many fun things available for our use. The sunrises are gorgeous also!
We absolutely loved the property and had such a wonderful long weekend!! We loved the porches, the big kitchen and table, the firepit and the beach front! Hoping to book again next year!
Loved the large house; allowed each couple to have their own room and reasonable number of people sharing bathrooms. The living room and dining table were perfect for our group of 9 people; made our social gathering better by being able to fit everyone in a single area. And of course being right on the lake made for a great experience. Additional drink fridge outside also a plus!
Note: while most things were included in the house (towels, stocked kitchen, etc.) there were a few things not included: napkins, paper products, dish soap, dishwasher soap and laundry soap. Seemed odd to exclude cleaning basics.
Overall a nice vacation spot.
This property was perfect for our group!
We had plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for privacy and quiet time but spent most of our time in the kitchen and large living room when not outside or in the water. Enjoyed looking at the beautiful Lake with all the windows facing the lake. We all agreed would love to come back and make more wonderful memories. Nate and Emily got right back to us with any questions. They are excellent!

About the host
Hosted by Kyle Shankin
We're children of Michigan. Both my wife Stephanie and I grew up, and currently reside in, Oakland County. We started dating in high school and have been together ever since. We have two wonderful children and come from large families.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this area when we stayed at short term rental on Lake Huron a few years back. We knew that we wanted to find a place on Lake Huron that we could bring our children every year to create fantastic memories. What's more, we wanted to be able to bring aunts, uncles cousins and grandparents too! When the Big Blue House on Lake Huron became available we found what we were looking for and more. We're going to continue to add new things to this property to make the go-to destination for large groups and families and are so excited for everyone to be able to make wonderful memories here!
What makes this property unique
It's cheesy to say, but there are almost more benefits to this house than we can list and you'll really have to see it all for yourself to appreciate it! However, I'll give it a go. First off, Lake Huron in and of itself is amazing! But all of the spaces that this house has to enjoy the lake make it even better! We love the sand volleyball court, the sugar sand beach, the fact that the lake in this area has a sandy bottom. You could say that we're fans of the sand! Also, there's just so much to do here: fire pit, basketball, lawn games, the game room downstairs. There's also plenty of spots to just kick back and relax or spend time with loved ones. And the fact that the house's privacy is protected by a layer of woods is just icing on the cake! We also provide a lot of the necessities so that you can just relax when you get here, and not worry about having to run out for stuff like toilet paper. We like our travel to be stress-free, so we try to provide that for you too!
