We would have given this an overall 5 star rating if not for the very bad cluster fly problem. We won't elaborate, as it's been addressed in a number of previous reviews. The owner is aware and seems to be trying to resolve the problem. It did, however, get worse each day and affected the overall enjoyment of our stay.That being said, the owner is very kind, responsive, and accommodating. We absolutely loved the cabin. It's very quiet and peaceful, and well-appointed. Many amenities and attention to detail. Great kitchen with everything you need, comfy couches and bed. Time spent on the wrap around deck is soothing for the soul.As advised by the owner in the check-in instructions, the smell of the well water is very off-putting. Very glad we brought our own drinking water!

Wonderful Property

We had an amazing stay at Mountain Crest! It was clean, well kept, and had amazing views. The drive to the property was scenic, but was close enough to Lead if we needed anything, but also close to all the hiking trails. We go to the Black Hills every year, and will be looking to rebook this place next year!

Perfect weekend getaway

We absolutely loved this place! We were looking for a secluded cabin for a relaxing weekend away, and that is exactly what we found. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. The views were breathtaking. We hope we can come back again in the summer to really enjoy everything The Hills has to offer!

Great view

Our stay was perfect! We were driving from yellowstone and wanted to stay by mount rushmore and custer state park for a few days. Location was great. Beds were comfy and everything you needed they had supplied. Seen deer and woodpeckers every day.

Just an amazingly cool cabin stowed away in the mountains.

I was super impressed by the cabin. Very remote to get to, but well worth the trip. The cabin is exactly what you picture a remote old school cabin in the mountains to be. Very clean and well stocked with amenities. I would definitely book again.

We have a great time at the cabin. It felt like we were alone on thousands of acres which was so peaceful. The accommodations were as described except they did not mention they had a black stone grill, which we used for smash burgers. Great location for all the attractions but far away from the crowds. We highly recommend.

Beautiful Getaway

I’ve always wanted to stay in a little log cabin in the snowy woods - this was perfect! My kids (5 & 7) spent hours sledding and playing in the snow, and we all enjoyed the coziness and peace and quiet. The cabin isn’t huge, but we had everything we needed. And a perfect base camp for some skiing at Terry Peak. Highly recommend - I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again

Such a much needed get away. Up in the high hills and the perfect way to unplug and enjoy nature’s peace & quite. The cabin is so cute with all the comforts of home. We didn’t want to leave!

Great place for a weekend or getaway!

Everything my wife and needed to celebrate our anniversary. We enjoyed the wood stove on cool mornings and during each evening. The cabin is located in a convenient, private location that is quiet and the perfect place to recharge. We enjoyed coffee on the wrap around deck in the mornings, hiking on the nearby roads, and staying warm while watching a movie on the comfortable couch!

BEAUTIFUL VIEW

The view and fire pit were key reasons for staying this far out of town. Well worth it. A bit disappointed with only one bathroom and no doors on bedrooms. This would have changed my decision. Otherwise, big props on no mosquitos!

Weekend getaway

This is a beautiful property to regain some "you" time. The interior of the cabin is so "homie" you barely feel like you are actually away from home. We came across the neighbor named Brett and he was so friendly and nice with helping us get to the cabin! The view is beyond belief and was so needed in the mornings. We loved watching old movies and cooking meals from scratch. We look forward to staying again in the future!!

This was perfect! Looked for a place to just relax. This is a gem! It truly looked magical with the snow falling and the peaceful walks were splendid. Just what we needed to decompress from Life’s craziness. It’s secluded , peaceful, cozy and so relaxing. The bed was a great nights sleep too. The kitchen is cozy and the wood burning stove kept us very warm. The scenery and view was breathtaking . We loved the quiet and it had great amenities as well. It truly felt like we were in a hallmark movie scene. We loved it and we will be back for sure!

Change your "View"

Mountain Crest has a way of helping you reset. Change your "view" from the hustle of life to enjoying quiet starlit nights, watching storms roll in over the valley, eating breakfast out on the porch while forest friends come to say good morning. An absolute breath of fresh air for the heart and soul!

always nice coming back

I have stayed at the property 3 times. This was the only time I had an issue checking in. I was rudely told that the information was previously emailed to me, as it is to every customer. I really didn't need to hear that, and when I looked back, it was not in any of the emails So, an otherwise steller stay is kind of ruined by someone with poor customer service skills

Exactly what we wanted for the weekend. Pet friendly, quiet, fantastic outdoor space and had anything we could have needed. Stairs inside the cabin were too tricky for the dog, but the host was great and told us all of that in advance. The stairs did not hinder how awesome this cabin was and it is very well maintained. Would 100% stay again!
