About this property

Colonist Camp @The Lodges on the Old Mountain Road

Your home away from home! Colonist Camp @The Lodges on the Old Mountain Road offers luxury and convenience with amazing views. This newly built cabin, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining and 2 living areas is just 4 miles from the heart of historical Palmer. Enjoy Hatcher's pass, Knik Glacier and many more local adventures while being centrally located to Denali and the Kenai Peninsula. Come stay with us at the gateway of your next Alaskan adventure!

Nestled off the Old Glenn Highway this cabin shares acreage with our home and three other cabins.* Among manicured lawns and wild wood each cabin offers a semi-private outdoor area with a gas grill and firepit. If you're looking to adventure by foot the Matanuska River and paved walking/biking path are immediately across the street. Inside the cabin you will find 2 bedrooms with king beds, 2 queen sleeper sofas with memory foam mattresses, 2 full bathrooms with six foot soaker tubs, full kitchen-well stocked for cooking, dining area, cozy loft, and all the amenities that are sure to make your stay relaxing! Constructed with exposed beams, vaulted ceilings, and superior craftsmanship you will be sure to get the feel of Alaska when you stay at The Lodges on the Old Mountain Road.

We invite guests to explore the wooded area immediately surrounding the cabins. Please be aware that moose and other wildlife (we have never seen a bear, thankfully!) do venture through the property quite often so please stay alert. Guests are also invited to use the grassy areas of the property with the understanding that we may be using them as well. We enjoy meeting and mingling with our guests so feel free to join us anytime!

Parking for 1 vehicle is available immediately in front of the cabin. There is a close parking area for additional vehicles. 2 vehicles are included in a reservation. If you will need additional parking please reach out for approval. No RV's

The cabin driveway enters and exits the Old Glenn Highway and there are only a few other houses nearby, which gives you a nice remote feeling with the every day conveniences of being close to town.

*We are excited to be constructing 3 more cabins on this property. We make an effort to limit active construction while we are hosting guests but you will see the buildings and area under construction.

We have a family with young kids who love to be outside. They are very respectful of boundaries and the cabin area but may occasionally be seen and/or heard in the backyard.

Feel free to stop by the main house at any time!

We have previously had this property listed on VRBO, and other sites, through a third party booking company. Unfortunately, when we decided to directly host our property we had to create a new listing and the reviews did not come with us. Here are some of the most recent reviews submitted to our previous listing.

"New, clean, well appointed property. Laundry is a bonus. Owner appears to be building a couple more cabins. Great consideration for large family travels." -Jeffery

"Gorgeous small cabin in a great location in Palmer! Great response time from host and very accommodating, with a very clean and quite cabin. Highly recommend!" -Amanda

"Amazing place to stay! We really enjoyed and highly recommend!"-Batsheva

"Our group consisted of 4 siblings + spouses on our trip and this cabin was perfect for what we were looking for. The cabin is brand new, its well built with tasteful finishings, comfortably slept all of us, and very clean. The amount of Airbnb’s that check all those boxes are slim picking in Anchorage/ Palmer area so we were glad to find this one.

Our group was there to visit a family member that lives in the area and to take in as much of Alaska as possible so we didn’t spend a lot of time in the cabin outside of a few meals, to sleep, and use as a launching point for Seward & Denali on various days.

Toni was a great host and was easy to reach and communicate with. She was also very accommodating in that we were allowed to have 2-3 vehicles on the property and were allowed to have day guests over for meals/ to meet up for hikes and stuff. You wouldn’t really want to try to put any more people than 8 adults overnight in that cabin.

They are building additional units on the property which will add some much needed great places to the AirB** inventory in Alaska.

Would recommend staying here and would stay again on a future trip!"

-Joseph

"This is a great house to stay in! It’s right near Palmer, lots of nearby activities and hikes and an hour drive from the matanuska glacier. The interior is beautiful and comfortable with historical touches. It’s hosted by a great family who are nearby and available for questions and suggestions. We would definitely stay here again!" -Christine

"We loved our stay at Toni & Ben's property! It is beautiful & in a great location. The home was very clean & well-stocked. The hosts were very accommodating with getting firewood for us to use in their fire pit & when my daughter left an item behind, Toni responded quickly & was able to locate the item which we picked up from her days later. We would highly recommend this property for your Alaskan trip!" -Dawn

Palmer “The Quiet Side of Anchorage”
Our accommodations were very comfortable for the four of us. (Two couples). Palmer was centrally located for the things we wanted to see in the area. Native Heritage Center/Hatcher’s Pass/ Alaskan Railroad. There were some nice trails locally also. All around enjoyable experience!

SPOILED !
This was our very first time booking through VRBO - we are spoiled ! Such a beautiful spot and great location for first time Alaska visitors! We were looking for somewhere that had a king bed , laundry and space to spread out and relax at night. Toni has all these boxes checked and MORE ! Toni was very responsive to any email questions when preparing to arrive ! The property was quiet ! Which surprised us as the host has children!!! We love to see and hear kids playing so this would not have bothered us !!! Pristine property! If we plan a return trip to Alaska we will definitely stay here and we have already recommended this spot to friends ! Very happy couple from the East Coast !

My husband Ben and I bought this property many years ago with the dreams of sharing this beautiful place with others! Having grown up here I'm a little biased about the area but it doesn't take long to fall in love with the beauty and community of Palmer Alaska. We have 6 kids and we love raising them here! I'm grateful to stay home with the kids while helping Ben with our residential construction company. We hope that your stay with us is all that you dreamed of when visiting Palmer and Alaska!

Why they chose this property

The Lodges on the Old Mountain Road is luxury and convenience at adventures doorstep! Built with superior craftsmanship you will enjoy the view inside and out. Whether you're looking for an adventure or you just want to relax, our cabin will provide the comfort and convenience you're looking for. Only minutes away from town you can enjoy views of Lazy Mountain, Matanuska Peak, and the Matanuska River. We offer a well stocked kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 comfortable living areas, gas grill, and an outdoor fire pit, perfect for a friends or family getaway!

What makes this property unique

At The Lodges on the Old Mountain Road you have the opportunity to see moose up close and personal!...but don't get too close, they are wild animals! These visitors return often, looking for food, so keep an eye out while staying with us. Also, The Lodges are built on originally homesteaded land and a portion of our home is a reconstructed log cabin built in 1935. While we were doing the remodel work we found lots of fun trinkets, magazines and letters from the 30's. Some we have put on display in the cabin for you to enjoy!
