This is our third annual stay, and it just keeps getting better. Every detail is perfectly appointed and the home and grounds are gorgeous. Perfect setting for a girls’ weekend for my birthday. We always wish we could stay longer! Thank you for your hospitality!

Beautiful home, tastefully decorated and with so many thoughtful touches. Stayed here with our friends for a wedding weekend in the area.
Highly recommend if you’re looking for a tranquil place to stay.
Sue was great with her pre-stay messages to make sure we had everything we needed to find and enter the home.

Our stay at Hurdle Mills was most relaxing and enjoyable! The farmhouse was beautufully renovated and had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch sipping wine and listening to the birds. Situated fourteen miles from the historic town of Hillsborough

Hi Jeff and family, Thank you so much and we'll 'keep the light on' for when you want to stay again! Best Regards, Sue and Mike Montpetit
This property is amazing! Inside and out. Perfect for a relaxing stay. We were in town for a wedding so I didn’t get the time to explore all the property but they have taken the time to really get all the details right! Inside they have left all the things you would need, even a sleep machine. I mean everything was perfect. I would definitely stay again and would highly recommend to everyone!!

😊 thank you so much and you’re most welcome to stay any time!
Our Family enjoyed staying at this farm style home. Not only was it very clean they also provided extras which came in hand when I forgot the sugar for our coffee. The property itself is beautiful and we enjoyed walking on the trails around the home. Our Family enjoyed the large back patio where you could sit and drink your coffee or have a beer. We would definitely rent this home again!
The host was very responsive to any questions I had.

We are so glad (and thrilled) that you enjoyed our home and its surroundings. Come visit any time!
This home is gorgeous and the kitchen/dining area is open and perfect for enjoying family time and meals. The weather was not good so I hate we were not able to explore this large property and hike the trail. Susan was very kind and had the fire pit loaded and ready for us. I don't think you could ask for a nicer host. We were also welcomed with wine, cold water, beer and pantry items. Lovely home that makes you feel welcome and special.

Hi Jennifer, Thank you! It was mutual, we loved having you there; and, definitely come back any time and enjoy the surroundings!!
You can see the home is very clean and well maintained on the outside but when you open the door and walk inside you will be amazed! I have never seen a more beautiful renovation of a farm house. A wonderful surprise! The owners were very helpful and there are operating instructions for all the modern appliances. They also have a book with “local” places to visit and things to do.
We will be returning!

Above and beyond expectations -- a perfect fall retreat!
From the moment we arrived at this farmhouse, we were blown away. Every single detail was perfectly appointed, and unbelievably, it was even more beautiful in person than the photos show. It was clear a lot of love, attention, and design expertise were poured into this renovation, and as a result, it was a perfect space for our group to rest and reconnect.
The property itself is lovely. The trails are well-marked, the stars shine bright, and it's very quiet. We really enjoyed the fire pit on the patio.
The details in the house are incredible. We enjoyed Pellegrino upon arrival and loved the peaceful aesthetics of the home. The beds are super comfortable, and the sound machine added a nice touch. We loved the breakfast nook, the morning sun, and the beautiful farmhouse table. We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back. Thank you for hosting us so well!

The cast and crew stayed here for a long weekend and shot a film. Could not have been more ideal. Quiet, spacious but cozy too. Clean place, comfortable beds, kitchen ready to go with many appliances. The restoration is beyond impressive and the lighting was perfect. Fantastic, memorable experience.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Montpetit
Mike and I enjoy travel and have worked in office environments for most of our careers and was the need to open our farm to others like us, in need of a respit. Farming has been part of our families history for generations. Mike and I started (salvaged) this one to continue our quest to be good stewards of our surroundings and share this with others.
Why they chose this property
After searching for over 20 years, multiple states, this land and home struck a chord with us. The rolling topography, old beaver dam, smattering of outbuildings and a humble 'Carolina T House' is everything we had hoped for. Through it, we pay homage to those who worked the land before us and complement it with a touch of modern updating. Actually, enhanced modern conveniences coupled with simple pleasures is what this home and setting is all about. We love to share this is everyone!
What makes this property unique
Enjoy today's rustic charm of a cedar clad original footprint farm house that took 3 years to bring it back from the brink of demolition to its pristine condition today. When you truly want to sit quietly and absorb the complete serenity of over 100 years of 'being' this home and setting now provides just that. With a short walk past the original oak corn crib to the fern valley of the Little River (it's a creek) and across the bridge to the open field or adjacent trail along the perimeter; it all encourages simple-ness, quiet reflection, soft walking, deep breathing. When back at the home, pick up a book, settle in with some tea and let time drift by.
