This home was amazing! The host has everything so well organized with visuals, QR codes, and a very helpful welcome book. The accommodations were very comfortable with nice touches such as items for pets, laundry supplies, etc. The owners communication was the best I've experienced with VRBO. Highly recommend Das Waldhaus and would rent it again in a heart beat!
Great location and beautiful lot. Super easy check-in. Loved the hot tub and back outdoor area. Pictures did not due justice, really lovely home.

This home is really nice and sits on a beautiful private property. Everything inside and out is well done and comfortable. It’s a little bit of a drive from town, but still a great spot for a couple days of exploring the national park.
Everything about our stay was wonderful. Great location for hiking in Mt. Rainier National Park. The cabin itself was great and Kimberly was a delightful host. Would love to stay here again when we return to the area.
Das Waldhaus was perfect for our family of four while visiting Rainier. The cabin was a great size, well-stocked in the kitchen for all our needs, and we loved having the hot tub after our two days of challenging hiking! The hosts were very responsive and helpful and we honestly could not have been happier with our experience! Highly recommend!
With easy access to White Pass Ski Area, this was an extremely comfortable place to stay for this short ski trip. Extremely clean, spacious common area, well stocked kitchen, good hot tub.

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and would love to have you visit again!
The host was amazing and super responsive when we needed assistance. The home was perfect for our family and our dog. Loved the trails in the forest from the backyard.
Excellent location. Easy drive to town. Great location for visitors wanting to go to Mount Rainer. Clean and comfortable with every single thing you need supplied. Great and quick response from hosts.
We had a fantastic stay at Das Waldhaus. It was the perfect spot for our two day visit to Mount Rainier. The owners of this property have thought of every detail -- from Band-Aids to stain remover. The beds and pillows were super comfy. It was an above-and-beyond home rental. Our group was so impressed! We had a minor hiccup when the keypad on the front door ran out of batteries, but the host was responsive, communicative, and quick to fix. Would absolutely stay again!
House was beautiful and thoughtfully decorated and stocked. Had everything we needed and clear directions on how to use it or where it was. Peacful area with lots of opportunities to explore nature!

Even through we were in Packwood for a short weekend. The house was wonderful and in a great location tucked in the woods. The backyard had a hot tub and was quite secluded. This had such a home-like feel during our stay. We can't wait to come back!

About the host
Hosted by Kimberly McKenney
I'm a PNW native who loves the outdoors, time with family and friends, reading, eating delicious meals cooked by others, and dreaming about retirement. It's a pleasure to host families at our home, Das Waldhaus: Tranquil Forest Retreat, in Packwood, WA, and to ensure they have a relaxing, worry-free stay.
Why they chose this property
“Das Waldhaus’ is German for ‘The Forest House’, and it offers the perfect balance between relaxing serenity and convenient adventure. Gifford Pinchot National Forest is mere steps out the back door, along with short walks to the Cowlitz River, seasonal waterfalls, and creeks. Mount Rainier and White Pass are close by and offer bountiful recreation. In fact, the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center is just 25 minutes away, and White Pass Resort, 33. Das Waldhaus is a relaxing home base for these adventures and so many more Pacific Northwest treasures.
We vacation at Das Waldhaus frequently with our family and friends. As a result, we keep it stocked for cooking, relaxing, and having fun. Although modestly sized, the kitchen is well-equipped with dishware, tools, small appliances, cookware, and basic cooking/baking supplies, as well as coffee and tea.
A crackling wood fire in the living room will lure you to settle in for a cozy evening of board games, cards, or puzzles. Or, peruse the hiking books and maps or birdwatching guides to plan the day’s adventure.
The backyard is one of the property’s highlights, and we hope you’ll spend time enjoying all it offers. With wilderness just beyond the edge of the yard, it is a lush, forested space, perfect for relaxing with family and friends and a peaceful spot to enjoy a good book or watch for wildlife.
Soothe your aching muscles in the hot tub after crushing it on the slopes or conquering trails. You'll find plenty of spa towels in the laundry room above the dryer. Don't forget your swimsuit and flip-flops!
If you love grilling up a good meal and eating outside, we provide all the necessary equipment, including BBQ and designated cooking utensils.
Enjoy the mesmerizing glow of a campfire in the backyard firepit. Plenty of chairs are provided for families to gather around the fire and make s’mores, tell stories, and sip hot cocoa.
What makes this property unique
*If you need to cancel fewer than 30 days prior to your stay, we will provide a full refund if we are able to rebook your dates. As a busy family, we know things come up and are happy to make those last-minute changes easier for you if we can.*
We love our dog and are happy to welcome up to two of yours, without any extra charge. You'll find dog dishes, waste bags, fleece blankets for doggy lounging, and towels for muddy paws. If you or one of your guests have allergies, this may not be the right house for you.
Traveling with kiddos? The home is equipped with outlet covers, table corner guards, a fireplace guard, Pack n’ Play (please provide your own bedding), a booster high chair, and plastic dinnerware.
With the national forest right in the backyard, the view is a magnetic draw, and our covered back patio offers year-round outdoor relaxation. The hot tub, bbq, teak lounge chairs, and bistro table are all completely covered and accessible from the house without stepping off the back porch or out from under the roofline. So, enjoy a soak, a mug of coffee with lounging, or a good book and snack at the bistro table, no matter the season or weather.
