Family Retreat Paradise

The layout of this beautiful sea escape home worked great for us. We found this home incredibly clean, fresh linens refreshing pool, fire pit, and all the comforts of home. Close to beach and also grocery, golf cart rental and fun little shops. We highly recommend this home for an easy, fun loving beach home experience.

This house was the perfect one for our family. It had more than enough room and the views and sounds of the ocean were great. Beach Access was only 3 houses down and that made it easy for us to carry everything without having to rent a golf cart. Would recommend this house and Oak Island to anyone looking for a family beach that is away from the touristy stuff.

This property was perfect for our extended family vacation (6 adults and 3 children). The location was perfect. So close to the beach access and just a short walk to the splash pad/park. We enjoyed the firepit and pool. The host is extremely responsive. Was not aware that the king bedroom access is only from the bunk bedroom so may need to plan accordingly. Would stay here again!

I know Your daughter is a house cleaner and recognize this was an issue this home has never had before. My family and I had the best time in Oak Island. We loved everything about the house and Juliet was quick to answer any questions that I had. The kids LOVED the pool and our favorite thing was sitting outside on one of the three decks. I highly recommend this rental! :)

Oak Island Vacation

The house is exactly as advertised, and what you would expect with a NC beach rental. The home is very cozy, and perfect for a large family, or 2 family shared rental. Great location, and 30 second walk to the beach. The host , Juliet , was great to work with. I have rented many properties over the years, and Juliet was the most responsive host I have ever had. We had a small issue with the pool when we checked in. Nothing that the owner could control, but Juliet moved mountains to fix the issue, Overall, a great home and host.

Fantastic Family Getaway!

This house was perfect for our family. There were 9 of us ranging in age from 15 to 80 years old. The house itself is absolutely beautiful...inside and out! Everyone had a great time. We like the layout as there was lots of room in the common areas and lots of room to get away from the rest of the group if you wanted some quite time. Beach is right across the street. And the owner is the best! I had several questions and she answered promptly and was so friendly! Will definitely look to rent here again next year if we are able to come.

Never wanted to leave!

4 generations of our family gathered for our first post-covid vacation in years. Our family arrived from four different States and immediately felt at home. The beach house provided large gathering areas in the living room, multiple decks and around the pool. As well as quiet places to escape with a book or to grab an apres’ beach nap. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, glassware, cooking and serving pieces. The beach is so close and the outside shower is so convenient. Our family loved playing corn hole and other games around the fire at night. Juliette was an amazing host. She was so responsive to our questions and made us feel so welcome. We hope to make this an annual event. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing home with us!

Review

First off, I want to say the check-in process was very easy and straightforward. The home is in a great location and just a minute or two walk from one of the access points for the beach. But the home did have a cleanliness issues, mainly with the dishes. All the dishes we used had to be washed before hand due to still having food stuck on them. The couches also had a lot of pet hair on it and the trash can in the kitchen was quite nasty. We contacted the homeowner a day after we got there about the cleanliness. She was very unapologetic and had excuses for all of it. She told us she pays her cleaners “handsomely” and she would inform them of the issue. A few days after our stay was over we got an email from our insurance letting us know they were paying the homeowner for a storm door that was damaged. I contacted the homeowner and sent her the pictures we took on arrival to the home. All had time stamps and showed preexisting damage on arrival. The storm door being one of the things that was already damaged. I contacted the homeowner asking why I was being charged for these preexisting damages. Her response was that I wasn’t having to pay anything that it was my insurance that was going to have to pay it. I expressed to her that me nor my insurance should be having to pay for preexisting damages. Her response was that I need to call Vrbo. The issue is still ongoing and nothing has been resolved as of now.

As you can see, I am a great host, the property is loved by many, and the issue is no longer outstanding. I have A responsibility to make sure the home is in excellent condition. If a guest destroys the property during their stay, then like any host or homeowner, it needs to be repaired and the person damaging the home needs to be responsible. Designer House with all the Comforts & Personal Touches of Staying in a Friend's Home

The home was visually inviting in every room, as if decorated by a professional, but done so w/comfortable, inviting materials. Their were so many personal touches, like 2 collections of an array of books for various ages, more board games than could be played in one visit, a Playstation with games, extra blankets & pillows, floats by the pool, a corn hole set & variety of beach toys in the garage, & more! There was even a holder w/bags for taking care of our dog's business in the laundry room. We didn't have to rush out upon our arrival for paper towels, Toilet Paper, & dish soap, because it was already waiting for us. There were plenty of pots & pans, even lg. ones for a low-country boil, along w/everything else you'd want or need in a kitchen. The online photos didn't do the house justice! There were little touches drawing you into every room. The porches on the top level & main floor had nice, comfortable polywood rockers, giving you a choice between a covered porch & one for sun seekers. The pool had such beautiful tile work, was soft & gentle on the toes, & the perfect size w/seats in it for everyone, as well as a convenient ledge around its inside perimeter for safety & convenience. The warm salt water pool was a very big hit w/my family, who raved about it, despite having a salt water pool at home. The outdoor shower was nicer than most vacation homes w/benches & wooden dowels to hold towels & wet swimsuits, & was very roomy. One aspect that actually topped this beautiful, well-appointed home was Juliet, the owner! She went well above & beyond to answer my many questions about Oak Island restaurants, her home, etc. before & during our trip! She was so friendly that talking to her was like talking to an old friend. She was, without a doubt, the nicest rental owner from whom we have ever rented, & we've been renting a beach house every year for 34 years. The only thing I would change about this house would be to move it across the street to make it oceanfront, but then it would be too expensive for us to rent w/it's size & amenities. The walk to the beach is very short anyway, being just 2-3 houses to the left & across the street. The home was a short golf car ride or drive to Publix & Food Lion, along w/many restaurants, Gift Shops, & more. If you're going to Oak Island, this is at the top of the list to rent, & we usually stay in oceanfront houses, but the pool was such a worthwhile draw, outweighing staying just across from the beach!!!

We loved the house. It was perfect for our extended family trip. There was lots of space to relax and never felt like we were in anyone’s way. We had a great time spending it with our family. We loved how close we were to the beach. And got to see beautiful sunrises and sunsets! However there were a few things wrong. It started when we got to the house and the code wouldn’t work to open the door. We were frantically trying to find how to reach out to the host. Once the host had reached us (about 40 minutes later) we had figured out the code on our own. There should be contact info listed in the welcome email that comes with instructions of how to reach the host, when trash pick up is, any specific instructions for accessing the TVs, using any of the amenities, etc. There was no paper products, no hand soap, dishwasher tabs. The host thought the cleaner was supplying them. We discovered that the grill was rusted and not usable. The fireplace also was not working. After speaking with the host, they tried to walk us through lighting the pilot. We were not able to figure it out. So we gave up. There should be clear directions listed for using the fireplace. And the pilot should be lite so that whoever is renting doesn’t have to go through a hassle of trying to figure it out. We ended up buying a small grill since we had already done our shopping and everything was for cooking on a grill. We also had to pick up paper products and some cleaning products.

Great Family Beach Trip!

Great OKI vacation for our family - three generations! Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and have their own space. Loved the flexibility of having a pool. Short walk to the beach access. Host was very responsive to all inquiries and checked in to make sure we had all we needed! Wonderful vacation!

Why they chose this property

Oak Island is a unique island. The island is still a small beachy, family town and our children can ride their bikes to the local stores within the island and the recreation center. The restaurants are delicious and shopping is unique. We love OKI because there are not many places left that provide us the peace we get here. Our family chose this home because unlike many of the other properties, this home had the most spacious kitchen, eating area, bar seating and family area I could find. For us, the most important time we is our time together.

What makes this property unique

This home has one of the largest lots, pool areas, and family room and kitchen area available on the islands. It is steps to the beach and has everything you need.
