So glad you enjoyed your time at the lodge and had a nice anniversary. Looking forward to you guys returning soon. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
Our family of 15 stayed at this beautiful home last week while visiting the Big Island. It exceeded our expectations in every way. We all had a comfortable bed, the kitchen is so well supplied, the house was spotless and everything we could ever need was provided. The home is nestled in a gorgeous spot up the mountainside and the sounds of nature added to the beauty. The host is exceptionally communicative and helpful. She welcomed all my questions which made trip planning easy. There aren’t enough stars to accurately rate how much we all loved our home away from home!!

Aloha. So glad you loved the Lodge. Sorry the weather didn't cooperate while you were there. Glad I was able to accommodate a tour of the property prior to your arrival and turn on the hot tub as you requested during your stay. Hope you enjoyed celebrating your anniversary on the island.
Hope you are able to return again soon.

House is fully stocked for everything you need, including kitchen essentials, laundry, pool and beach towels, beach gear. Kaili is a wonderful, helpful host. Always super responsive and offered tips on things to do on the island. Hope to be back one day!

Aloha Christina. Thank you for your wonderful review. Glad you enjoyed your time at The Lodge. Hope you can come back and visit soon.
BREATHTAKING is the word we all used to describe this property! This home is beautiful and is equipped with EVERYTHING! We had 9 in our group, including our 2 year old granddaughter. Each couple enjoyed the privacy of a suite bedroom with a comfortable bed. Our granddaughter enjoyed playing in the bunk room and loved the daybed so much that her parents are buying one. At the end of each day, we enjoyed catching up around the fire pit and watching the stunning sunsets from the hot tub and pool. Such a treat after a long day exploring the island. Kaili Walters is a wonderful host. She treated us with kindness and responded quickly to all questions. She also offered ideas for excursions, which we appreciated.Staying at the lodge elevated our dream vacation and we will never forget our time together in Hawaii.
A beautiful, well kept home. Our extended family (ages 20 - 82) have stayed together on many vacations. We've never seen a place so well appointed. We cook/eat in some nights on vacations. The kitchen had everything. The host could not have been more accommodating and responsive.

Welcome to The Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
Youngest 12 to oldest 82 family gathering in a home that was more home than a rental. Beautifully appointed but very homey. Plenty of room for group function's and meals but areas to get off to be alone. Beautiful wooded surroundings. All 9 of the group said would love to return. Tips from the host on things to see and do was greatly appreciated.

We loved hosting you in our home. Definitely should come back and visit soon. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
Excellent property and very accurately described in the pictures and reviews. We had 11 people and needed 8 beds, and there was plenty of space for everyone. Kitchen is well stocked, rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, and outdoor area was superb. You are up the hill, about 10-15 minutes by car from airport, shopping and restaurants. Hosts are very attentive but not intrusive, and it is a perfect setting for a large extended family, or two families traveling together

Mahalo for your kind review. So glad you enjoyed our home and had a great time on the island. Please keep in touch and welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
The hosts were incredibly hospitable and very responsive. The home is beautiful and we especially loved the ease of indoor/outdoor living provided by the large sliding glass doors that open up the back wall of the living room. The temperatures on the mountainside were just a bit cooler in the morning and evening than on the beach, which was absolutely perfect for us. The property is absolutely beautiful with lush greenery everywhere while also offering a gorgeous view of the ocean in the distance. We truly enjoyed our family getaway! Thank you!

Mahalo for your kind review. Hope you can come back to the island again soon. Welcome to The Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
Reason for the delayed response is we don’t know where to begin. The whole experience of renting the Lodge at Kaloko was something you do once in a lifetime. Kaili, home owner was great to work with. She was very receptive to our asks, needs or wants. We would highly recommend this location if you are ever trading to Kona, Hawaii.

Welcome to The Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
We had a wonderful week after Christmas at the Lodge at Kahalo. We are three generations of family (ages 5 - 79) who frequently vacation together around Christmas. This was one of our favorites! The house was very comfortable for our large group. There were multiple comfortable spots for people to be alone or together both inside and outside (game room, porch, hot tub, living room). Someone was always in the hot tub (text Kaili and she will turn it on remotely so it is warm when you get back from the volcano or beach). Beds were very comfortable. Plenty of towels and supplies to start. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking with our foodie crew - and plenty of plates and tableware so that we could eat without washing up constantly. The Blackstone grill was a hit - we ended up using it for breakfasts and dinners (perfect for making okonomiyaki!). The house is at 2500 feet elevation, so is about 10 -15 degrees cooler than the 85 degree beach nearby. We loved the tranquility and beautiful sunsets from the hot tub. We could have been happy spending all our time at the house, but ended up exploring the island most days. There is a fantastic beach about 15 min away, but the beaches we liked the best were further. Hilo is 1hour. Two-step snorkeling is 45 min (spinner dolphins swam up to us even though we were told to stay away from them!) Driving was an enjoyable way to see the different micro environments of the island. The manager Kaili was very responsive and thoughtful.
Our family of 12 adults had a wonderful time in the home. There was plenty of space for everyone inside the home. There is also a great covered patio with a comfortable sitting area and a table for outdoor dining. The hot tub and pool are a nice addition to the home.
The real benefit of the home was the host. Her communication was amazing. She checked on us several times, provided suggestions of things to do and see and let us know that the volcano had started erupting again.
I would highly recommend this property. This was the best host that I have ever dealt with on any rental!

Robert, mahalo for the kind review. You and your family were amazing to host. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana. Come back soon!
Where to start?! The pictures, which are nothing short of amazing, still do not do this home justice. Every nook and cranny has been considered, making every room a place you just want to cozy up in. With 8 adults and 3 children, there was plenty of space to never feel cramped. The host is as amazing as the property itself, prompt to respond and offer tips and recommendations. The pool is solar heated. You must request the hot tub to be heated each day of your stay in advance and that takes a few hours. It also auto shuts off after 4 hours. So, that takes some planning on your end to ensure it is ready when you would like it to be; but, it was doable. The home is stocked with nearly everything you need at the home and for the beach- so no need to overpack! I can't thank the owner enough for contributing to such a memorable family vacation.

Aloha Cindy! Mahalo for your kind comments. So glad you all had a great time. I adjusted the hot tub timer so it stays on later, great idea so less hassle. Hope you are able to visit again soon. Welcome to The Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
We brought our whole family of 14 with ages 7-70 here to celebrate our 50 years of marriage and everyone had a wonderful, so good, beautiful time. The house was perfect for a large group. We cooked almost every night in the large gourmet kitchen with all the stylish serving dishes, small appliances including a kitchen aid mixer, and a double oven. We even hired a chef they recommended for the last night to celebrate in style- Kylee! You have a great place for kids, with a hot tub, pool and basketball court. They even used the work out room and weights several times with Uncles and dads assisting. Everyone could watch movies up stairs in the evenings. With the gate it's very secure and parked 3-4 vehicles easily in driveway. The view was amazing and even in the rain the kids enjoyed the pool! I highly recommend this place. It can be hot down on the beach but it's beautifully cool up high. On clear evenings the sunset is fantastic. It was close to hiking, and not far to airport or town. We would come back anytime! Any issues you might encounter, the owner quickly responds. What a great VRBO!

Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
We took our family of 10 to Hawaii to celebrate our anniversary. This was a perfect house for our celebration/Covid reunion.
The house is in the forest just 15 minute drive above one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Kona is just a short drive away.
We had a lovely time, and would definitely choose this again over options of resorts or condos. The house is beautiful with enough space, we all enjoyed the privacy.
Each bedroom suite is spacious. The house provides beautiful indoor/outdoor living. We spent a lot of time in the covered outdoor dining, lounging and spa areas. Appliances, bedding, etc are all top notch.
When issues arose, the host was responsive to get things done quickly and easily.
Bottom line: this is a lovely home, perfect for a gathering. Highly recommend!

Mahalo Smith Ohana for taking such great care of our home. So glad you had a nice visit to the island. You are welcome back anytime. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana!
We gathered at The Lodge to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our children and families. All 14 of us!
From the time we booked our property and all throughout our stay, Kaili was so helpful and responsive. She really helped make this stay so memorable!
The bedroom suites with ensuite baths were perfect for our 4 families with comfortable beds, linens, and supplies.
The kitchen was spacious and had a well stocked pantry. Deliveries for needed food items were easy.
The beach was a short drive and there was plenty of beach gear at the house for us to use.
After a hot day at the beach, the cooler temperatures at the lodge were so welcome. The pool and hot tub were a plus and we’ll never forget the beautiful sunsets and the sounds of the coqui at night.
Beautiful home, stunning setting, and excellent host.
Thank-you!

I love that you had a Golden Experience! So glad you all enjoyed the home and were able to relax as well as celebrate such a special occasion. We would love to have you all back again sometime. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
This home is beautiful with amazing ocean views and fabulous sunsets. We spent every evening lounging in the hot tube while the younger kids in the group played in the pool.
Most of our meals were eaten out on the lovely covered patio where there was room for all of us. The interior of the house is amazing - well stocked and tons of room for all of our family to spread out.
I was initially concerned to be so far off the ocean for this trip but it turned out to be a blessing - beaches and surf are great but it was very hot while we were visiting Hawaii - it was so lovely to drive back up to a cooler climate after a day playing in the heat. The house is really close to everything just depending on what road you take down the hill so overall it ended up being perfect and extremely convenient.
We really loved staying here and would highly recommend to anyone. Thanks for letting us enjoy your home.

Mahalo for the excellent review and thank you for taking such good care of the home. You all were such a pleasure to host. You are welcome back anytime. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko ohana.
Our group of seven loved our stay at Kalako! It was the quiet and peaceful retreat we were all wanting. The best thing about the house is that it’s so much cooler than the beach. We loved going from the uncomfortable heat into our leafy and quiet home. We used the beautiful hot tub everyday and night, sat by the fire pit and the glow of the torches, and enjoyed all the different nooks and seating areas. The house is very thoughtfully appointed! There are Bluetooth speakers throughout the house, the kitchen has all the equipment you need (even a pie server for Thanksgiving!) is a dream for hosting. Lots of large spaces to gather and lounge, but also plenty of room for privacy. Bedrooms and bathrooms are exactly as described with comfy beds. And it’s all about 20 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes to town. Hosts are immediately responsive and check in, but we had no problems at all. We would definitely book again!

Mahalo Monica for your kind review. We are so glad you love the Lodge as much as we do. We miss it so much but are so happy to share it with others. Thank you for treating it as your own. Welcome to the Lodge at Kaloko Ohana.
We are a group of adult divers who came to Kona for a dive vacation. This is our third time doing this, and this house was far and away the best. The location is wonderful- <15 minutes to airport, harbor, and town, but in the cool hills. The home is beautiful and well cared for. We loved the hot tub and the extremely well-equipped kitchen; we prepare all of our meals and it was so easy in this amazing kitchen that had everything we wanted in terms of small appliances (rice cooker, instapot, vitamix, kitchenaid mixer, immersion blender, etc), some staple ingredients, and dishes/servingware. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would not hesitate to book this same property again. It was a very easy space to share with good spaces for coming together, and plenty of room to be apart, as well. My only tiny criticism is that, since we were a group of 10 all trying to caffeinate in the mornings, a regular old drip coffee machine would be helpful; there is a chemex, a french press, and a Nespresso, which is great, but they could not produce (and keep warm) coffee at the rate at which we wanted to consume it!

About the host
Hosted by Kaili Walters
My husband and I have lived on the Big Island for over 20 years. with our five children. My husband and his father coached High School football and were very involved in the community. We know you will love this special place as much as we do. We love the island and have lots of suggestions on things to do. We have put a lot of love into our beautiful lodge estate and are excited to share it with you.
Why they chose this property
Experience one of the only cloud forests in the United States. Unlike lowland rainforests that are warm and humid, cloud forests sit at higher, cooler elevations and are often wrapped in a soft, dreamlike mist. You’ll be surrounded by a lush Hawaiian landscape filled with fragrant awapuhi, vibrant heliconia, delicate orchids, guava, avocado, and blooming lehua. Parrots frequently glide through the canopy, while Hawaiian hawks and owls soar overhead. At night, drift to sleep to the gentle chorus of tropical coqui frogs — nature’s island lullaby.
What makes this property unique
Nestled on the peaceful slopes of Hualalai sits this large estate on 3 acres, The Lodge at Kaloko. Sleeps 12 comfortably with 5 well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. Enjoy stargazing in the oversized person hot tub or by the outdoor firepit. 10-15 minutes to airport, beaches, Four Seasons and town. Wake up surrounded by ancient Hawaiian trees, Hapu'u ferns and native birds in the only cloud forest in North America.
