Will never book Key West Cottage again

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was somewhat unhappy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This property was not clean. The beach over look was very dangerous In need of repairs or being taken down. It had a bug investation (roaches). We stayed the night we arrived and left the next day.I would not recomend this property to anyone.

Never Again

Outdoor and screed in porch furniture wasn't useable. Washer and dryer broke on day 5 and waited 24 hours to repair. (only washed and dried one load prior) The air conditioner made a knocking sound every time it came on and we realized after looking that the filter was in dire need of changing. Took over 24 hours for it to be changed. It rained often during our stay and the carport would flood every time! The gutter coming from the roof lead directly to the carport. I think some maintenance on this property would help.

Wanted to like it. Location (across road from the beach) and the pool (not huge but nice for cooling off) were pluses. Unfortunately, the property appears to have no personal owner to care for it -- looks and feels like an old, bare-bones rental property. Some surface remodeling but house is in rough shape: broken/rotten wood, broken master bath floor tiles (was covered with rug but unstable underfoot), rusty protruding nails on outdoor steps/upper deck, broken gates to upper deck & pool, dirty old patio & pool furniture. We didn't bother the manager on these issues because significant renovation work would be required to fix these things -- when there's no tenant/ occupant. But not child-friendly, and watch your step. We had several roaches (it's Florida, and property manager offered to call exterminator, but we didn't want spray and mgr said they didn't offer bait stations). Some standard supplies we find at most rentals were absent or very limited (zero salt, pepper, spices, laundry detergent; only one roll of TP, one roll paper towel, one trash bag; no batteries in the TV remotes -- the manager made us drive to them to pick these up!). Zero beach supplies provided. It took us a while to figure out how to work the TV as there were no instructions. The interior decor and woodwork is cute and interior furniture mostly in decent shape. We didn't hate it but have stayed in much nicer places at same price point. This place has potential with serious TLC from owner or mgt.

Pieces of wood unlevel. Lock is attached with a screw that sticks out underneath. Location is best part, quick walk to beach and short stroll to bay. I will come back.

DIY Remodel and Showing Age

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have a family of 4 with two small kids. This trip my elderly father was joining us so a range with 3 bedrooms was perfect. The location, walk to the beach, and pool were great. The tile floors were in good shape and helpful with sand from the beach. The rest was subpar at best. - It appears the owners had done a DIY remodel job. The rustic boards in the main living area had exposed wires (no insulation)and large gaps. - 2 Outlet covers were missing in the main living area and there weren't many outlets to speak of. - The decking and fence on the exterior of the property is in really rough shape. I can say that was visible from the pictures so I saw that coming, but little kids still get splinters so the reality was tough. - The kitchen was absolutely bare. Hardly any pots/pans etc to cook with. - The provided Keurig with no coffee. No regular coffee maker. The island was sold out of pods.- The master toilet was tiny. I'm 5'7" and I felt like I was falling when I sat down. Be warned. - The master bathroom shower is okay but water gathers in the bottom because the slope is off. Drain works fine if the water pooled over the drain. - The washer and dryer is outside on pallets. The room was soaked when we got there. If you are going to spend all day at the beach and pool, this property can get the job done for a decent price.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have been coming to St. George Island for about 25 years now.This home, I’m sad to say, is the one in most need of some love. When we got there Sunday to unload, it had been raining. The garage was completely flooded. I had to walk thru the flood water to get to the key code on the garage door. The decking of the home really needs to be replaced. And the fence around the pool just seems so poorly done. And the landscaping of the home is nonexistent. The pool area is fenced, but is not all concrete, so the kids would get sand spurs in the sandy/grassy areas. After seeing 4 huge palmetto bugs inside the house, we called for Suncoast to come spray, and they did very quickly. They also brought us a new broom and dustpan since there wasn’t one to be found. They also brought a brand new microwave when the old one stopped working on the 4th day. My 5yo son found 2 pairs of underwear under the master bed. The showers in the home were probably one of the biggest disappointments. Some of our party were small children who needed to be bathed, and the bathtub has sliding glass doors which make it almost impossible to bathe children in. Not to mention that the caulking of the door was absolutely disgusting and mildewed. The master bath has been redone since the hurricane, but I hate to say that it wasn’t done properly. And I’m fearful that the subfloor and beams under that shower will soon rot from the lack of a professional tile job. The master bedroom door was peeling, and the front door of the house was so nasty and filthy, both of those doors need replacing. The floors of the home were all recently tiled I think, but the subfloor is so uneven and flexible that many of the tiles are cracked and grout in the master bedroom floor is crumbling. Lastly, the home has a very musty smell. I’m assuming from the terrible runoff drainage and the fact that all rainwater most likely puddles under the home in the crawlspace. The pool area needed some sprucing up, couldn’t sit in any if the lounge chairs, they were all cracked and would pinch you if you sat down. All the wood outside was terrible! it was rotted, nails coming up, uneven surfaces, all needed to be replaced! Very much a safety hazzard. Couldn’t use the picnic table because of the safety issues. Hope it is taken care of very soon. Other than the outside we were very happy with our stay!

Steps away from the Beach

Reviewer Comments: The pool and the proximity to the beach were the only positives. No hot water in the hall bathroom sink. The bed in the first room was very uncomfortable and we had to move it around to keep it from squeaking when you breathed. The master bed was comfortable though. The front wall by the window in the first room is rotten. We went to close the drapes and the whole thing just pulled off the wall. I found a Philips head in my truck and eventually found a solid enough piece of wood to reattach even though it was crooked. The American cockroaches were fun. Killed five in all including one in bed with my wife. The master toilet clogs up with the slightest use of toilet paper. Plunging every time is necessary. The same toilet is only a foot off the ground. I had to use the wall to help pull myself off of it. The railing as you go up the crows nest is very loose and pulled in a good six inches. The wood on the outside patio area and picnic table is very warped, splinter ****. Always wear sandals on them. The covered patio area was comfortable for the most part. The pool was great but be wary of the cracked plastic furniture as it will pinch.I understand the home is one of the first built on the island but it needs serious renovation. The owners have had someone do work recently it seems but it is the poorest craftmanship I've ever seen.I've been visiting SGI since the mid 90's and I've stayed in numerous homes and have never left a negative review until now. I think the $2,000 we paid for six nights was way overpriced for the quality.

Key West Cottage is in a very good location corner lot beach access. It is also in need of TLC. THE BEDS WERE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE, King bed very soft and the full/queen very noisy. Not enough cookware.. 1 large frying pan 1 small frying 2 pots. 1 cookie sheet. I went to the dollar tree to buy a few items for the next guess. no storage containers, or pot holders. The washer and dryer are on the outside of the house very inconvenient. Closet doors locked or blocked nowhere to hang your clothes. no laudry baskets.overall it was ok but will not stay here here again. It is a cute house but needs work!

I have been coming to St. George for years and rented from different companies, but I have always received exceptional service from Suncoast! This house is an older home that has had some upgrades on the inside. It is super close to the beach, a very short walk, to public access. You can also easily walk to the bay from this house and enjoy the sunset over the bridge. My family really enjoyed the pool. There is an outdoor shower, but no fish cleaning station. There was not an icemaker in the freezer and the ice trays I found were cracked, so didn't work well. The master shower looks great with the rock motif and has a modern shower head, but did not drain well. Though place could use additional upgrades, beach access and the pool were worth the stay.
