Our carefully designed mountain retreat is the quintessential outdoor getaway, central to many of the adventures found under Colorado's expansive skies. Perfect for family/friends fun, couples’ ski retreats, visits to Purgatory (55min) & Wolf Creek (85min) ski resorts, with Vallecito Lake just a short walk away, and other activities for up to 6 guests!

The Surroundings
Located on perfectly appointed wooden & shaded property, you’ll have plenty of space for sprawling out and enjoying the fresh mountain air in privacy. Get ready to take in clear night skies full of brilliant constellations from the back-patio hot tub— whether it’s a cold winter night or a fresh summer evening.

The Amenities
The Bear's Den is fully equipped to be your home-away-from-home. The kitchen is furnished with high-end appliances, granite countertops, and of course, all you need for coffee each morning! Enjoy your meals together around the dining room table or take it to the back patio for an epic barbecue.

*Wifi is available but due to our rural location it can often have service disruptions. We cannot guarantee WiFi throughout your stay. Verizon is the only carrier for phone service here at Vallecito Lake.*

After hiking/snowshoeing around Vallecito Lake or skiing down a mountain, settle into the family room for a movie night. This comfy space includes a flatscreen TV with streaming access and live TV via Hulu Live and WiFi. (A note about WiFi: because our area does not have fiber internet, outages can happen, after all, we are in rural Colorado! But don't you worry, we have a lot of DVDs perfect for all ages. As well as Verizon is the only true phone provider that is reliable).

Or pour some hot cocoa and gather around the backyard fire pit or in the hot tub, looking out at the expansive skies. It’s especially idyllic when snow is falling softly! Colorado is where rolling plains meet the Rocky Mountains, and we captured that in our decor, using classic rustic details to complement an ideal stay.

Bedrooms include a master with a king bed with a custom ceiling flat-screen TV. Sleep two more in the second bedroom with a queen bed. Additionally, we provide an air mattress or the comfy sectional couch to sleep two more. With one full bathroom, there is plenty of space for everyone to keep up with daily routines before hitting the slopes or taking a trip into Durango.

Heading Into Town
While The Bear's Den feels just the right amount of secluded, you’re still only 20 miles away from downtown Durango (25 mins). Vallecito Lake boat launch ramp is only 2 miles out and is home to many outdoor adventures like fishing, boating, and every water sport imageable. While you’re here, be sure to check out some fantastic hiking trails, including Vallecito Creek Trail, Raiders Ridge Lookout, Shearer Creek Trail, First Fork, Red Creek Loop Trail, and more.

Excellent place to stay!!

This is a wonderful, peaceful, and quiet property with everything you could possible need and it's dog friendly. The outside partially covered deck with dinning, grilling and hot tub made this place extra special. The kitchen was well appointed and spacious. The beds were comfortable and the double sinks in the bathroom were nice. The living room was comfortable with plenty of space.We truly enjoyed our stay here and would stay here again.

Such a lovely place

This cabin truly never disappoints, the cabin, hot tub, and scenery are beautiful. Every time we've been here we start planning when we can come back, it's so relaxing and the backyard is perfect for the kids. The kitchen is spacious and well set up. The beds are incredibly comfortable. We always look forward to our trips here and will definitely be back.

Dog Friendly Family Getaway

Beautiful area not far from Lake with a wonderful deck and hot tub, including a traeger smoker grill. Inside was very clean, updated, accommodating, and had a fun bear theme. Wood stove, appliances, and kitchen were very nice. 2nd queen bed in 2nd room is a nice, large self inflating air mattress. Highly recommended!

Great place that is close to a lot of fun areas!

20 or so minutes from Durango. Minutes away from the lake. This was a great place for ourselves and our friends (total of 4). We also brought our dogs. The host was communicative and the house was great. We also really liked the outdoor space the place offered. We would stay again if we were in the area!

Perfect Family Spot

Our family visited here for spring break and we loved it so much we booked again right away. The pellet grill was easy to use, the hot tub was clean and maintained, backyard play set and sandbox kept the kids busy while we relaxed. The fire pit had actual benches that were nice to sit on unlike most vacation rentals that have stumps. Looking forward to our next stay! Fast internet, comfy beds, nice TVs. Easy to find, great locatio. What more can you ask for.

Cute and quiet

The property was just what we needed! I had some friends come to town and they LOVED it here. We went to Pagosa Springs, Ignacio, Durango, Silverton and Ouray so it was the perfect central location tucked back into the Valley Forest away from the hustle and bustle. I do wish it had a fence for the dog but other than that it was fabulous! Definitely recommend.

Relaxing stay. But thought maybe there would be more of a view. Saw a family of deer in the driveway. Beautiful area. Very clean and the lay out was good. We think maybe a bear visited in the night. Lots of scratching and a couple large paw prints in the mud. Thanks for being great hosts.

Durango getaway

We really enjoyed staying here. Back yard had privacy which was very nice. Hot tub was out of this world. Very comfortable and clean. There is a wonderful hiking trail that goes along a river for miles. Probably one of the prettiest hikes we have been on. Only 10 min away. Durango was about 30 min away. Rented a pontoon boat on Lake Vallecito which was a lot of fun too. Owners were great as far as information and response. Would stay there again for sure.

Great Vallecito Cabin

Cabin was fantastic, and very warm and cozy. Great kitchen, comfortable bed, and the hot tub was perfect. The cabin is also very dog friendly, which is a plus (no doggos for us this trip), but it was to nice see. The property owners were extremely helpful, responsive and super easy to work with. We will definitely stay here again.

A perfect cabin for a mountain getaway

The cabin was perfect! A short, quick distance to the lake, a short drive tp Durango, updated beautiful decor, a cozy hot tub to relax, a beautiful deck to enjoy beautiful nature, super comfy beds, a kitchen with everything you need, a cozy living room to have movie nights on the updated entertainment system. Our favorite spot!

Had so much fun on the first trip we booked it again right away. The shiny new hot tub and huge grassy backyard made for a perfect place to let out kids romp while we relaxed. The fireplace and treager grill made for plenty of great food and stores too. Can't wait for our next fishing trip!
