The sweet reminded me of a studio apartment. Just what we needed for a weekend to visit our daughter at Iowa State. It had everything we needed, we felt comfortable. The town was very cute and safe. There are a lot of stairs, but we were young enough to handle them.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
Disliked: Location
Property has a lot of steps which would be very difficult for older guests or anyone with knee issues. The property was clean however smelled a bit musty. The floors were very creaky and loud. The trains went by often.

Yes, there are a lot of stairs, as stated in our listing. Yes, the building is 120 years old, as is stated in our listing, and doesn’t smell brand new and the floors do creak in some of our units. It smells much more fresh than most 120 year old buildings because of the thorough cleanings we do between guests. Yes, we are located by the UP station, and trains come and go as by stated in our listing. But, we do offer white noise machines to take care of that, as stated in our listing. If guests read the entire description, all is explained.
Our room was changed from the original rental. It was a large apartment rather than a suite. It was on the 2d Floor instead of the 3rd, which was a great relief as we are both older adults! The bathroom was down the hall, but it was for our use only. It had a walk in tub/with shower head that took a bit of getting used to, but fine overall. Brock, our Host was available whenever we texted him and was very personable and friendly to us. No sink to wash dishes in the kitchen, kind of a work in progress. We enjoyed our stay.

About the host
Hosted by The Property Manager
A retired educator, I have always been surrounded by people and now I enjoy meeting new people . I love history and historic architecture. My family has a farm in South Dakota and I enjoy gardening, growing vegetables and have multiple flower gardens. My roots are in Norway and I take frequent trips to the “old country” to visit my daughter and her family and my extended family.
Why they chose this property
Walk up the marble staircase to second floor and take a look at the old terrazzo floors, the Florentine art glass windows and the massive wood doors. Then, ascend the final flight of stairs to the third floor where a beautiful suite awaits you. It's quite a climb, but once you get there you will find yourself in a "rockin" suite with a large living area, a fully furnished kitchen, complete with stove-refrigerator-microwave, a dressing area with a desk and chair and a full b3 piece bath with bluetooth. Coin Op laundry is available.
Located across the street from the Union Pacific railroad, the trains do rumble through town at all hours. But, we have taken measures to muffle the sound. Heavy velvet drapes adorn the windows which provide a dark sleeping space as well as quiet the sound of the trains. White noise machines are available on request, if you'd like one.
What makes this property unique
Unique? Yes! Our property stands out from the rest because each suite has a different theme and it's own personality. The Victorian Suite is....well, Victorian-like, with chandeliers, a canopy bed and a fireplace mantle. The Rock 'n Roll Suite is filled with rock and roll memorabilia and art. The Serenity Suite is done in calming, cool colors and provides an atmosphere of peacefulness. The Retro Suite is "retro everything" from the retro Murphy bed to the chrome table and chair, to the retro 1950's memorabilia. Whatever your mood-whatever your preference in lodging, we can meet your needs, based on availability. There are so many things to do right here in Boone: Rail Explorers is a preferred partner of ours and will provide an exciting activity for the whole family. Mention that you are staying at the Historic Goeppinger Building when you check in for your rail ride and you will receive a complementary Travel Mug.
In addition, there are train rides, museums, parks, hiking trails, swimming, great restaurants, antique stores, women's clothing stores and thrift stores available. Located right outside Boone is Seven Oaks Recreation providing tubing and canoeing in the summer and skiing and snow boarding in the winter. Boone hosts the Super National Car Races, a great County Fair and Puffer-Billy Days (a celebration of the railroad with a carnival, train rides, craft fairs, music and tours).
