About this property
Historic Boho Brothel • Lake Retreat • Fast Wifi
If walls could talk, this home would have stories to tell! Originally operated as a brothel to serve the local mining community, this building is just about as old as CO's statehood. Nonetheless, the rich history and charm of this 1880's building has recently been updated with a chic, boho vibe. With an emphasis on comfort and convenience, this house is the perfect mountain escape.
We're here for you during your stay but our level of interaction is up to you. We are only a phone call or message away. You will be able to self check-in upon arrival. We are happy to assist via phone or through Airbnb before, during or after your stay.
Once a week, one of our team members will stop by the property to put out the trash cans, replenish our supplies, and/or restock sheets and towels. They will NOT enter the home. They have access to the garage or shed with a code. This day may or may not fall during your stay.
Twin Lakes, once a mining transportation hub between Leadville and Aspen, was named "the most charming summer resort in Colorado" in 1885. This idyllic town will transport you back to a simpler time. Outside the cabin, stunning mountain views of Mt. Elbert provide a backdrop for stunning sunrises and sunsets, often accompanied by passing storms and rainbows. Panoramic views of Twin Lakes, Mt. Hope, and Mt. Elbert can be enjoyed while sipping morning coffee or reading a book. Twin Lakes is located 21 miles southwest of Leadville and 36 miles east of Aspen, along the "Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway" Independence Pass. It offers plenty of outdoor activities, such as running, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, rafting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.

We are accessible year-round. Our cabin is located on a county road that gets plowed when there's snow but we still recommend AWD/4x4 with good tire tread in the snowy months (generally December to April). Winter driving conditions on the highways leading to the cabin can change in very short amounts of time. We recommend checking the conditions before you start driving our way and plan accordingly. Colorado has some specific winter driving laws pertaining to tire requirements. The fine for violating the traction law is pretty expensive so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the law before driving during the winter.
Speaking of snow, this is the Colorado Rockies so be prepared! We do our best to plow the area in front of the cabin and shovel the walkway. However, the remote nature of this place can make these tasks delayed. We do provide a shovel in case you need to clear a path.
This uniquely remote getaway is located in the Twin Lakes Historic Village - recently named "Colorado's Prettiest Town" by the Denver Post. Nestled deep within a National Forest at the base of the Rocky's tallest mountains, you’ll stay within walking distance to trails that lead to rivers, beaches, lakes, historic sites and many untamed, magnificent natural wonders. Offering the best views in the state and immediate access to the wilderness just outside your door, this cabin will allow you to enjoy the wild, tranquil beauty like never before.
