About this property
Cabin at Granite Ledge
Our quiet, summer cottage built in 2009 on the western slopes of Freeman Ridge in Southwest Harbor, Maine at the end of a private road, is the perfect place to enjoy your vacation in Acadia National Park on lovely Mount Desert Island. The cottage has complete privacy, located in a peaceful, forested surroundings. Built on a ledge, the cottage has a tree top view of the woods and there are keyhole glimpses through the tall spruce of Bernard Mountain to the north and Swans Island to the southwest. The tall forest surrounding the cottage give an expansive treehouse feel to a modest cabin with a small footprint. Like most summer cottages in Maine, Granite Ledge is a single construction building and designed for seasonal use. Built to the owner's specifications, the cabin's framing and roof are made from lumber harvested and milled from the property. All appliances are new, floors are finished hardwood, giving a luxurious feel to a rustic experience.

Quiet, secluded cabin with great sunset views. Clean and well stocked with dishes, towels, and wood for the wood burning stove! Close to several hikea in Acadia and a short drive to Bar harbor.
We loved the cabin and was perfect for our family of 4. We love Southwest Harbor so it was great to have a quick drive into town but be able to come back to total, complete privacy. The place was clean and had everything we needed. Laura was a great host and responsive to any questions. If you want a private, relaxing place this is it
This cabin exceeded our expectations. The setting is private and peaceful, with stunning unobstructed views that we never tired of enjoying! The house was thoughtfully stocked with almost everything you could need, making it feel comfortable and easy to settle in. The owner was great to work with and communicated promptly whenever needed. We also loved the beautiful drive into Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. We highly recommend this property and would happily (hopefully!) return in the future :)
This was a spectacular home base for our week on the island. There’s so much to do there but the house is so delightful - bright, comfortable, lovely porch - that sometimes we just stayed put and enjoyed the splendor. Not often does one get to sleep in what’s essentially a treehouse bedroom. Great kitchen. Perfect reading room with a woodburning stove centerpiece. Thank you.

Lovely quiet stay!
Our family really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was clean with all we needed. We enjoyed the porches, and opening the doors to hear the wildlife outside. No neighbors in sight! Perfect place after a day of hiking.

Perfect Cabin, Perfect Setting
What delight I felt pulling up to this remote cabin set back in the woods! We got out of the car and went inside only to find that the place was just what I wanted. It is clean and bright and has just the right amount of space (there were 4 of us, though it could have handled more). There are windows everywhere looking out into the forest and letting in the beautiful Maine air. It had all the amenities we needed to cook. There is a spacious deck and porch to sit outside. The location feels remote and quiet, yet it is a short drive to town in Southwest Harbor. I wouldn't have wanted anything more and will be going back.

Upscale Rustic
We had a wonderful time at this cabin and the very business-like owners were wonderful to work with. They returned our deposit very quickly after we left and were responsive to emails and texts. The cabin is quite and isolated, but not far, by car, from Acadia National Park or the town of Southwest Harbor. It looks like there maybe more cabins being built along the road to the cabin, but for now there are very few neighbors. There is a great view from the large deck and the woods were cleared near the deck to improve the view. We were there during a new moon and the stars were spectacular. Just know if you area star fanatic that the deck faces more north, so that is the part of the sky you will see. We saw song birds, a turkey and a deer from the deck. There was no TV, but there was internet connection, which was perfect for us. We could check the weather or look-up local restaurant menus, and the kids weren’t glued to a TV. The kitchen and grill met our needs and there was even a lobster pot and picks. Though this cabin meet our needs there are a few things I wish I had known before we rented it. First, there is a short, easy path to the cabin from where you park. If we had known we would have brought our collapsible wagon to help load and unload the car as well as bring in groceries. There are also 7 steps up to the cabin. The steps are not steep and there is a handrail, but if you have issues with stairs, you should know they are there. The cabin is a little more rustic than the photos lead me to believe. I didn’t know what a “3 season” cabin was and I found it rustic. In a 3-season cabin the wood you see on the outside is the same wood that are the inside walls. The walls are just boards. Because of this, where there are knots in the wood you can see directly outside. And yes there are some “holes” in the walls to outside. Not big and not a lot, but a few. This allows some bugs to come in. Apparently this is normal for a 3-season cabin, but I was not expecting it. We had ants when we first arrived, but the owner came the next morning and sprayed. I was very careful about not leaving food out, so the ants did not return. However, there were some bugs. My son didn’t have an issue, but my bug-a-phobe daughter was not happy. The bugs didn’t not take-away from how wonderful our experience was, but I wish I had known before we rented. This was a wonderful cabin for our vacation.

Just Perfect
From the moment we pulled up to the cabin we knew it was going to be an amazing week. The house is immaculately clean, every detail is taken care of, and the mountain views are breathtaking. There was nothing the owners didn't think of. It was beautifully decorated, so simple and just nestled in the forest. Thank you so much Laura and family for a magnificent stay. The location is just a minutes drive from the lovely quiet village of southwest harbor, and about 20 minutes to the Acadia loop. Best house and location we could have asked for for our first trip to Maine with our two young kids. We will be back!
