About this property
Cabin with ocean views, minutes from Acadia and Bar Harbor
Location:
The Guest House is situated on the north coast of Mt. Desert Island, also known as Frenchman Bay. It is only seven minutes (2.5 miles) from the Acadia National Park visitor center and 13 minutes (5 miles) from Bar Harbor. Fun and safe bicycle routes lead to both the park and town. Nestled among pine trees, the cabin offers a stunning view of Frenchman Bay. There is a communal deck with a picnic table overlooking the bay where you can enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, and watch lobster boats in the morning as they head out.
Note that this is an uninsulated cabin. Which means that if it gets chilly outside - it'll get chilly inside by morning. The wood stove makes great heat. There are also two space heaters and we supply electric blankets.
The Guest House has a sister cabin, the Pines VRBO# 887970
Amenities:
There is a large living area with kitchen (stove/oven, refrigerator and sink), eating area, sitting area with wood burning stove. There are two bedrooms. The cabin sleeps five. One bedroom has a queen sized bed. The second bedroom has a twin over queen bunk bed. There is WiFi and you can stream from your mobile devices to the TV. The cottage has a large covered porch for sitting. We also provide a charcoal grill. Parking is next to the cabin.
Why Us:
This is a peaceful and quiet place. We’ve been renting the Guest House and its sister cabin, the Pines for over 50 years. We have customers who have been coming here for a decade or more. This is a great place for a couple or a family. We also make it easy for you to bring your pets. We have pets and know how nice it is to bring them, so please bring yours!
The property is shared with another cabin 100 yards up the hill and a large house 50 yards closer to the cliff.

About the host
Hosted by Kevin Nealon

My parents started vacationing at Baycliff over 50 years ago. Back then, we’d drive up from New Jersey (Metuchen, Turnpike exit 10) and spend two weeks here. I have fond memories of deep-sea fishing, hiking, sightseeing, and other touristy activities, but my favorite was skipping rocks into the sea—quite a challenge with waves, wind, and seaweed!
In 1973, the property went up for sale, and my dad immediately bought it. We began staying for a month at a time in the cottage, which wasn’t much larger than the cabins back then. One year, we brought all seven of our cats and a raccoon I was fostering! For over 40 years now, we’ve been renting out the two cabins. The picture above is of me, my two daughters, and my mom. Until 2019, during the summer months, mom would stay at Baycliff and take care of the cabins and guests.
Mount Desert Island offers so many attractions. The carriage roads are perfect for cycling, the hiking trails are spectacular, and if you're into birding, we have segulls, loons, hummingbirds and warblers - and on occasion an osprey or bald eagle! Bar Harbor and the surrounding areas also boast some excellent restaurants. This truly is a special place.

Why they chose this property
Acadia National Park Headquarters is just 2.5 miles away, and Bar Harbor is only five miles from your doorstep. The cabin is situated in a quiet location, nestled among pine trees, providing a tranquil atmosphere that will help you destress. Whether it's the peaceful surroundings, the ocean breeze, the cool, clean air, the wind rustling through the trees, or the soothing sounds of nature, you'll find true relaxation here.
What makes this property unique
There is a communal deck with a picnic bench on the cliff, where you can witness the ever-changing character of Frenchman Bay. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises and sunsets; on sunny days, watch the clouds race across the sky, while on moody, overcast days, observe the approach of a storm. It's a captivating story of nature's transformations.
The beach also shifts with the ebb and flow of the tide, exposing boulders and seaweed at low tide, creating a tranquil, ocean-inspired meditation garden.
