Cute cottage

The cottage was great. There was a lovely little welcome basket with Door County coffee and makings for s'mores (too cold & rainy for the fire pit). Since we came with our yellow lab, the entrance was a "mud room" which worked as a place to feed her and drop our shoes, her leash, etc. The bathroom is very small and could use a fan, but the place is a cottage, so we were not expecting anything huge. Other than that, the bed was a comfy king size and the rest of the place was veery comfortable...and clean. That is very important to me, so for an older place, I was thrilled! The owners were wonderful to deal with and I just wish that we had met them before we left.

About the host

Hosted by Ruann Larson

Host profile image
The history of the property you will stay at on your vacation is rich.  The Ephraim Village Cottage property was originally owned by Daryl's grandparents and was part of the Larson Cottages property that is seen from the highway.  In the late 60's Daryl's dad, Roger,  purchased the piece of land that faces Larson Lane, where the Meadowview Cottages sit, and with Daryl's mom Norma, created what was called Meadowview Cottages until the buyout in 2006 by an investor who turned the property into Ephraim Village Cottages.

In 2019 Daryl had the opportunity to bring the property back into the Larson family and on March 5, 2020 it became official.  He is now the third generation owner of the small resort.

Daryl and Ruann live on the property full time as owners and as your hosts.  Daryl has a lifetime of hospitality experience raised on the property and then managing the property for the investor.  Daryl also served as a US Marine.  Ruann is a sign language interpreter by trade and uses her craft to communicate with deaf guests during the vacation season and via remote work during the off season.

Seeing families with children, couples, and friends enjoy their "backyard" on vacation brings them immense joy.  The sounds of children playing on the playground, friends laughing around the firepit, family reunions gathering for a picnic, and smelling delicious food barbequeing on the grills makes the resort come alive in the spring, summer, and fall.  Then in the winter the whole property beds down under a blanket of snow for a long winters nap while Daryl and Ruann think about and put into action plans for upgrades to the cottages and improvements to guest amenities.

Welcome Home to Ephraim Village Cottage.  You are now family.

May your stay be in a peaceful and secure dwelling in an undisturbed place of rest.  Isaiah 32:18.

Your Hosts – Daryl and Ruann Larson

Why they chose this property

Postcard perfect. That is a common phrase used to describe our little Village in gorgeous Door County, WI. We are set back in time when life was simpler, quieter, and peaceful. The night skies are dark and filled with brilliant stars. The mornings are filled with bird songs, fresh crisp air, and beautiful sunlight. Our 3 acres is covered in lush green grass, lots of trees, and many opportunities to simple Be.

Ephraim is a village with a true village feel. Within walking distance you will find a delicious breakfast spot called Good Eggs, homemade fudge at the Door County Confectionery, creamy ice cream at Wilson's Restaurant, and the Best Fish Boil in the entire county at the Old Post Office. You are two minutes away from incredible sunsets, a sandy beach and blocks away from a number of art galleries, quaint shops, and Village historical sites. If the outdoor life is what you crave, Peninsula State Park with its hiking and biking trails is a short car drive from the cottage. Are you a theatre buff? Northern Sky Theatre is located in Peninsula State Park and for movie lovers the drive-in theater with a nightly double feature is right up the road. Want to sight see? Take a Trolley tour. Love wine? Door County has a plethora of wineries with tours and tastings ready for you to enjoy.

What makes this property unique

From our property you can walk on streets with a 25mph speed limit. The main road (Water Street/Hwy 42) also has a 25 mph speed limit but that has a wonderful sidewalk that takes you three blocks the center of our Village. No need to ride. At times there is a horse-drawn carriage that will give guests rides around the village. We have historic properties (Pioneer School House, Fire House Museum, the Anderson Store, and a small Maritime Museum) all within walking distance. If you want to live in a Hallmark movie, you'll love Ephraim. If you want an authentic/original Door County experience, stay with us.
