About this property

Fort Morgan Waterfront Bay Cabin-Gulf beach. Private Comfy & Romantic Wifi Cable

This little cabin is an original Bay cabin that has been well cared for. It is full of original artwork and photographs, many done by our local Gulf Coast artists. The property is located on Bon Secour Bay which is across the street ( .5 mi) from the beautiful sugar sand beach of the Gulf of Mexico. It is the only dog friendly beach on the Fort Morgan Peninsula. Well behaved, leashed dogs, with responsible owners are welcome! We are 10 miles from downtown Gulf Shores, where you can find a zoo, amusement parks, live music, tons of restaurants, miniature golf, souvenir shops, etc. There is also an outlet center nearby in Foley if you want to shop! A boat ramp is just up the road to put in your small boat or jetski. Or put your kyack in right over the sea wall! There is a kayak rental place down the street which will deliver.

The washer and dryer are located up in the shed with beach chairs and toys. The cottage has a large screened porch with a large picnic table. It is the perfect place to pick some crabs and shell some peas, and watch the kids try to catch fish or crabs on the pier in the shallow waters of the bay. If you are looking for an old fashioned beach vacation, near attractions, but off the beaten, this is the place for you to unwind after a day at the beach. Hang your towels on the clothesline, rinse off under the outdoor shower, then relax under the ceiling fan on the porch which is shaded with trees laden with Spanish moss. Just a perfect romantic getaway or for a couple or a family with small children.

Family owned property since the 1950's: I purchased this property from my mom in 2004. My stepdad was a professor at University of Alabama built 'the cabin' when he wasn't fishing! In 2005 I put a new roof on it, updated electric, put in a heat pump, and covered it with hardiplank. Although it still retains its charm, it is more energy efficient! Two flat screen tv's. As of January 2019 the cabin has new countertops, new tile floor, and a fresh coat of paint.

Golf: The Peninsula Golf Club and Kiva Dunes are located just down the road.
Other local courses include Pure Palmer Golf at Craft Farms, Cotton Creek, and Cypress Bend.

Outlet Shopping: Ten miles north of Gulf Shores in Foley, Alabama the Tanger Outlet Center features 120 name brand shopping options for the bargain hunter. Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Osh Kosh, SAS, Gap, Banana Republic, Anne Klein, and more.

The City of Gulf Shores has a recreation center with daily, weekly, or monthly rates. It features an indoor temperature controlled swimming pool, basketball courts, fitness room, There is also a really nice playground near town, even a doggy park!

Kayak, Jet Ski and Pontoon Boat Rentals near by. Dolphin cruises, Historic Fort Morgan is at the end of our peninsula. FISHING is everywhere!

There is also a Sauropod 🦕 footprint on the property given to me by an archeologist. He made an imprint of it in central Texas!

About the host

Hi! I am Debbie. I am a mommy, a grandma, a doggy mommy, and a teacher! My little family moved to Alabama in 1989 from the Jersey Shore because of the medical waste washing up on our beaches. We wanted to raise our children in a healthy environment! And my Mom and Stepdad had this house we could visit any time! I loved being here with my children when they were little kids, and now with them and my grandchildren!

Why they chose this property

This is family owned property which has been lovingly taken care of for over 60 years. My children grew up catching crabs off the pier and "camping out" on the porch! After a little too much Gulf sun, we would fill a baby pool with water and let them play on the porch while we shelled peas or shrimp. I purchased this cabin from my Mom before she passed away. My stepdad built this sweet cabin in the 50's. He would drive down from Tuscaloosa, where he was a professor, and build a little and fish a lot! Right after my purchase, the roof leaked and I ended up pitching the roof, from a flat asphalt roof to and finishing the exterior in hardiplank, keeping the original design in tack. During roofing the roofers had not finsihed when a rainmaker flooded the cabin and the ceilings collapsed. No time like the present to up date electric and new ceilings. I also installed a heat pump. The home warms and cools quickly due to the size. I love to wake up here! And I love to watch the sun as it lowers into the sky and sets into the bay right off the pier. There is a real sense of peace in this little spot of Heaven on Earth. If you want to play, or rest, cook, or eat out, this area has it all. And this is a great home base for you.

What makes this property unique

I love this cabin because it is the best of both worlds, very close to the Gulf, and yet all the fun of having a pier on the Bon Secour Bay to fish or catch crabs, and watch beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It is surrounded by trees dripping with spanish moss, It is peaceful, comfortable and cozy. This cabin is an original Fort Morgan beach house, updated with a heat pump and central airconditioning. When I first came down in the 1970's there was no AC, we relied on the Bay breeze and ceiling fans with personality!
