About this property
Visit Monticello, Wineries, UVA: Room for a Crowd
Want to bring a crowd to visit Monticello and all the Charlottesville attractions? Maybe hit some wineries, or tour UVA (or come to a game). And have a rural location with peace and quiet and no traffic hassles?
This spacious house is just 14 miles from Monticello, and there are over a dozen wineries within 30 minutes, plus UVA and Charlottesville. Plenty of restaurants, groceries, shopping and even golf only 3 miles away at the Zion Crossroads/I-64 interchange. Or zip into Charlottesville on I-64 in 15 minutes.
The house is much larger than the exterior pictures indicate. The living spaces upstairs are quite large, including a large deck overlooking the back yard. Three bedrooms, two baths on that level. Then go downstairs where there is another living room/den, full kitchen, bedroom and bath, plus a double garage that we have set up as a game room. The game room includes ping pong, foosball, air hockey and a huge smart TV where you can stream shows or plug in your game consoles.
The large front lawn of the house is flat enough for pick-up games of football, softball, soccer or whatever.
This the place to gather the extended family or a group of friends to make some memories in the beautiful and historic Charlottesville area.

We had a great trip with the family to celebrate our daughter’s graduation at UVA. This property gave us plenty of space to relax, have brunch together, and enjoy the weekend
The house was clean and very comfortable. We had 10 people ranging in age from 1 to 90 and there was plenty of space. We would definitely return next time we're planning on being in the area.
We picked this property because of its proximity to Charlottesville and the fact that we had 4 adult couples going and wanted 4 queen rooms with lots of bathrooms. This property was perfect with plenty of living space to enjoy together and apart. Thank you for allowing us to visit your property.
House is much larger than pictures and everything is spread out and comfortable. While it’s a little dated; it has everything you need for a great stay with family or friends. We were 20 mins from Charlottesville and Monticello. There were no check out instructions but we tried to clean things up. The cleaning fee was also incredibly reasonable! We would definitely stay here again with a group!

FIT4MOM Richmond Retreat
A group of 10 moms from Richmond, VA travelled to Charlottesville for our first ever FIT4MOM Richmond Retreat. We were looking for a house big enough to sleep us all not too far out of town. This house provided a great space for all of us to unwind and have fun!
My family, which included eight adults and two children, stayed three nights for my son’s wedding. This home was perfect for us due to its amount of bedrooms, living space, two kitchens and a big game room. It was a 10-15 min drive to a vineyard and 20 to 25 minute drive to my son’s wedding venue. In James Monroe Highland. I would definitely stay there again.

Ok stay
Large house and lot to accommodate large groups well. House temp was set to 50 upon arrival so that was cold. Next to a trailer park. It’s a little bit of a drive to get anywhere, but very pretty back roads.
House design was convenient for four couples. There were very few towels (2 towels for a bathroom used by four people) and no washcloths. Insufficient toilet paper and papertowels provided.

So, so
Communication from the owner was dismal at best. The app gives a lot of places to add in important info (check in, check out, WiFi, amenities, etc) and all of that info was added in only two days before our arrival. Owner was accommodating when it came to checking in a bit early, but was incredibly difficult to get in touch with.
Also, this VRBO is a bit out from any sort of civilization, which is fine because we were prepared to cook quite a bit. However, the kitchen was barely stocked. The house was fine and served it’s purpose, however, we were expecting much better for the price we paid.

Response from VrboOwner on 25 July 2023
Maggie needs to learn how VRBO operates before casting stones. The owner provides the check in information, etc. to VRBO and VRBO (NOT the Owner) sends it to the guest three days before arrival. From the VRBO site: "We’ll email the guide to your guests 3 days before they check in. The welcome guide is also available in the Vrbo app. Access, check-in, and checkout instructions are released 3 days before check-in, but all other information is available as soon as they book."
As to me being "difficult to get in touch with", on July 20 at 7:05 Maggie emailed me claiming the wifi info was incorrect. While it was still 7:05, she phoned me asking for corrected wifi info. I sent it at 7:08, LESS THAN 3 MINUTES FROM HER FIRST CONTACT. There were no other instances of Maggie attempting to reach me.
The kitchen is plenty well stocked. We have over 20 short term rentals, and know what is needed for the kitchens. It's all there.
As to being away from "any sort of civilization", this house is less than 4 miles from all the commercial sites at Zion Crossroads (a dozen restaurants, grocery store, etc.).
Wolf Trap Farm operates seven vacation rentals at the farm itself in nearby Gordonsville, plus a number of other vacation rentals near Charlottesville and Norfolk. It is owned by Keith and Deborah Cuthrell, who live in Virginia Beach.
Why they chose this property
The Cuthrell family acquired this property as part of a forty acre income-producing property around 2007. They selected the property because of its proximity to Charlottesville and to Zion Crossroads.
What makes this property unique
This mid-century split-level house was well-built and provides lots of functional space. Because it sits so far back from the roadway, there is little noise, and a great sense of privacy. Yet it is so easy to access all the attractions of the Charlottesville area, particularly Monticello, Montpelier and local wineries.
