Villa Towanda is an elegant three bedroom villa that offers stunning views over Long Bay and Smugglers Cove beaches and the islands that line the north western horizon of Tortola.

Designed around an open patio, covered porches and a pool, you will find privacy and shade when desired and fun in the sun with our beautiful Caribbean weather and cooling trade winds.

The main house has a very open living room with wireless internet service, a well equipped gourmet kitchen and out door dining and sitting area. The artfully designed bedrooms with en suite baths affords one privacy. The first floor bedroom suite will leave you with the feeling of being in Morocco, while the second guest suite will transport you to Asia and the master bedroom with will remind you of Africa. You will also enjoy the wonderful outdoor stone shower that is part of the African suite.

Stunning Views! Host was excellent, met us upon arrival and also helped with some last minute logistics with rental cars, taxis etc. on our day of travel. House had everything we needed to cook dinners, plenty of beach towels for our large crew! Had a minor maintenance issue with wash and they had someone out the next day. Loved the location of the home and the beautiful long bay hotel and beach just minutes down the road. Would love to visit Villa Towanda again!

Paradise Found!

A spacious well laid out villa with a breath taking view of the beaches, islands and sunsets. Pinky was great answering all our various questions and sourcing fresh lobster and fish for us!.. ymmm. We mostly dined in to take advantage of the sunsets and great dining area on the deck. Thanks to all to help us make this a wonderful too short stay..

For two weeks we enjoyed the incredible view and comfort of Towanda. As we travelled around Tortola we realized that the west end is the place to be. The quiet and relatively empty beaches made for an incredibly relaxing holiday. To add to the exceptional stay was the the incredible hospitality of the team taking care of things. From arranging a taxi to having groceries in the fridge when we arrived. Thank you for sharing your home!

Beautiful home with classic & cozy West Indies vibes

What a beautiful, private home with great views and easy access to some of the most beautiful beaches in BVI (Smugglers Cove, Long Bay and all of the North shore beaches). Also- a very short and easy drive to West End Ferry/Sopers Hole. Makes arrival/departure easy, but also makes day trips (or even half day visits) to JVD on ferry easy, as well as day charters that are available out of Sopers Hole. LOVE the open kitchen and shared living spaces. Great lighting, pool and landscaping. This is like stepping back 40 years when new homes had character and charm without sacrificing luxury or comfort. We have been going to BVI/Tortola for many years. MANY of the newer homes are modern and stark. They are beautiful, but missing that sense of place and history. I truly loved this home; it is filled with love and nature. Great location. Very Private. Close to best beaches and restaurants of Tortola. My only recommendation- rent a car that isn't too big, but has plenty of power (small suv). The road is very steep and narrow, but worth the views and privacy!!!

Wonderful Trip!!!

Our group of 6 absolutely LOVED this villa... Sharlene and crew were a delight to work with. Everything about Towanda is great. I am missing the wonderful views already!!! It's lay out is perfect for everyone to have plenty of privacy if wanted. We cooked daily in the well designed kitchen and grilled lots on the grill. Thank you for sharing your piece of heaven with us... we will return for sure! The outdoor rock shower (which is not in the photos) was wonderful!!! I would also highly recommend renting your car with Dede's, Deadman was wonderful to work with as well!

Fabulous!

What a beautiful home! We loved the open air concept and it had amazing views! The sounds of crashing of the waves through the day and frogs at night and only a 10 minute drive to 2 amazing beaches!! Travel to the house did require a 4x4 and after a time or 2 we got used to the drive. The home was very clean and well maintained, customer service from the team was excellent - a few check ins to make sure had everything we needed. We loved Towanda and will be returning!!

No escape from the bugs

As others have said in previous reviews, the house is beautiful and the view is incomparable. The management and housekeeping staff are helpful, personable, and just plain nice. Having rented homes all over the Caribbean for the last 20 years we've come to expect certain things both good and bad about any property we rent. Towanda was no different. I read other reviews (including a very negative one that has disappeared) and felt confident that the lack of air conditioning in the bedrooms wouldn't be an issue in December. I was wrong. Mosquito nets block most of the airflow and sleeping without them would mean being eaten alive. Even with the ceiling fan and a stand fan blowing directly on us, my husband and I were miserable. We moved from the master bedroom to the lower bedroom due to the horribly uncomfortable mattress only to find that there was very little airflow to the lower room. For homes in this rental price range the lack of a/c is simply unacceptable especially considering the very real threat of Zika, Dengue, and breakbone fever. Speaking of which: be forewarned- this is truly an open air home. There is absolutely no way to get away from the bugs after sundown. And folks, these are Caribbean mosquitos. They LIKE the taste of DEET. I have more than 40 bites on me and I kept myself covered in toxic spray all day. The house is beautifully decorated but unfortunately there are only two truly comfortable seats in the entire house. (The dining chairs can be made more comfortable by doubling the seat cushions if need be.) There is a fantastic commercial stove but no sharp knives. An immersion blender, but no simple whisk. A beautiful pool that was never warm enough to swim in. I've never been anywhere that the ocean was warmer than a pool! And it was. Easily 10 degrees colder than the ocean. The owners need to consider that while they may love their home as it is, we are paying guests and as such, are looking for value for our vacation dollar. As much as we enjoyed our time on Tortola, our accomodations were so much less than we had hoped for. I found the property on VRBO but got a better rate through another rental agent. Please consider the very real threat of mosquito-borne disease when thinking about renting this property. One last thing: the drive to the property is not for the faint of heart. One lane wide with two way traffic, blind curves, and incredibly steep hills.

Perfect Views in a Zen Like Atmosphere

The online pictures of Villa Towanda on VRBO don't do it justice because the property has a serene feel and vibe (with just the right touch of Indonesian charm) that simply can't be captured in still photos. The roads up to the property are steep and the location would be difficult to find on your own, so we definitely needed to meet the manager at Long Bay Beach Resort to follow him up. Definitely rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle! We loved the outdoor/indoor living spaces typical in the Caribbean. The management team is very responsive and great to work with. The kitchen and living/dining rooms were under the terrace cover and flowed outside right to the pool. The villa has three self enclosed "suites" consisting of a bedroom and bathroom that are all of approximately equal size...two are stacked (upstairs/downstairs) and the third is upstairs but separated from the other two with an incredible view and outdoor shower. The main problem with the property is that the bedrooms are not air conditioned (and easily could be) and the fans are not sufficient to keep you cool at night with the mosquito nets down (and the electricity sometimes going out at night to turn your fan off). Other than the lack of A/C, it was a perfect stay in a perfect setting.

Holidays in Tortola BVI

My name is Fabrizio, with my wife, my daughter and 3 friends spent 15 wonderful days of vacation in the beautiful island of Tortola in Villa Towanda. The very functional and well equipped house is surrounded by a beautiful and lush, well-tended garden, located at a height that allows you to enjoy an exceptional view over Long Bay Beach, Smuggler's Bay and the island of Jost Van Dick, really nice !! Here the peace and tranquility the first thing that hits you !! Enchanting the beautiful colors of the sunsets sitting in an armchair in front of a glass of wine and then continue with fantastic dinners with the fantastic and tireless sea views, great !! So beautiful the living area, but very comfortable and functional rooms also each equipped with bathroom and terrace. A 10-minute walk (downhill!) You can reach the beautiful Long Bay Beach, the return board the car, maybe even seen the 4X4 road curves to get to Villa Towanda. We congratulate the owners Philippe and Sophie for the house, instead thank Sharlene hospitality and especially JC Pierce for assistance and useful advice for the stay at Villa Towanda. I recommend anyone who wants to spend at least a week in Tortola or relax and visit the beautiful neighboring islands !!! Sorry for my english !!

Better than the photos

The one bad thing about Villa Towanda was that it spoiled every other location that my friends and I visited! The views from the villa are incomparable, and the vibe in the house is intimate, relaxed and comfortable. After a day at one of the beaches or out on the water, there was no other place that we wanted to be than Towanda. Period. We cooked in the open kitchen almost every night and sat on the terrace for sunset and moonrise. The view across the bay to Jost is unsettlingly beautiful. I will definitely return. There were so few people at Long Bay beach (just at the bottom of the road!) that it felt like a private beach. No kidding. If you're looking for great restaurants, this may not be the place for you. The Sugar Mill was very good for dinner, and D'Best Cup in Soper's Hole was great for breakfast. Everything else we found was mediocre, but that really didn't matter to us because, as I said, we found we were happiest cooking at home and being mesmerized by the views. The kitchen was extremely well appointed, btw. The owners and managers were extremely kind and helpful as well.

Awesome Tortola Vacation Home

Awesome home, awesome views. Don't stay at Towanda expecting the ordinary vacation home. It's everything but... Be prepared for the drive in, it takes some getting used to, but it's worth it. From the gated entry to the villa to the outside showers and the pool. Then just sit down and look at the views! What a great week!

Wonderful facility and Management team

We really loved our stay at Towanda. The management team of Sam/JC were incredible in making our stay incredible. The views are to die for! The open architecture and beautiful decorations were really thought out. Every day we discussed whether we wanted to go to the beach or just stay at the villa! I'd come back in a moment. The owners are very nice people and very helpful. We do travel a lot and my wife said it was the most beautiful place she has ever been. The house keeper, gardner and pool personnel where also very good at what they did and very helpful. Terry & Linda (Boston area)

Fabulous! And what a view!!!

Just want to say many many thanks for all and for making your wonderful house available. All was fantastic and we believe that you have the nicest spot imaginable to have made your lovely second home. All was perfect and our time there was very relaxing. We managed a nice mix of exploring, hiking, swimming, restaurants and all...but most of all enjoyed just relaxing at the house, staring at the beautiful view, playing some backgammon, reading and leaving the hectic pace of Washington behind. We are not certain when... but we are certain that we would like to return!! Again, many thanks for all.

Ah Towanda! The perfect house for 3 couples. Equal bedrooms & baths plus plenty of room for alone time. The view is spectacular, along with the privacy and quiet setting, who could ask for more. This is our 6th trip to Tortola and by far the best Villa we have rented. Of course with a view like this there is one drawback, the drive up the mountain. But with 4 wheel drive and after 2-3 trips it was a piece of cake. The kitchen is loaded with all the stuff you will need to eat, drink and be merry. New beach chairs were a big plus. Had many people ask us on the beaches "Where did you get those chairs". Evidently many rentals do not include beach chairs. This is a must on Tortola as most of the beaches do not have any facilities. Do not be afraid to deal with the wiring of money to France (even though VRBO says not to wire money) the owner is very easy to deal with and everything went great. We loved Towanda and Tortola and hope to return soon.
