About this property
Cabin Sweet Cabin 2.0
The renovation of our cabin was completed in December 2021 and is now available for rentals. Cabin Sweet Cabin was our country second home for many years but with this renovation the residence has been converted from a small cabin to a substantial house. The moment you enter our cabin retreat, you'll be struck by the scent of fresh pine. The cabin is inlaid from floor to ceiling with fresh pine wood and the sweet, woodsy, smell will be with you throughout your stay. It is an authentic country cabin which has been modernized. The house now has a full HVAC system which means there is central AC and heat, an updated improvement from more primitive times. You’ll enjoy a beautiful house which still feels like a country cabin. Our great room has a new large rustic working fireplace (plenty of firewood available), full service kitchen, dining room, an additional living room with a wall of picture windows overlooking the mountain and queen pull out couch. Both bedrooms have been enlarged. The new construction includes a master bedroom suite, with a King bed and a remarkable master bathroom. Second bedroom has a Queen bed. There’s also a brand new screened in porch. . Perfect for a romantic getaway or kids will love our back yard where they can knock around a soccer ball. This is a back to nature locale for a couple or a family with children.
The Wild and Wonderful mountains of West Virginia are the perfect vacation getaway. Only two hours drive from Washington D.C., (3 hours Baltimore, 3 1/2 hours Richmond, 5 hours Philadelphia) this private cabin is secluded in the woods and offers you the pristine beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains. Near the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, there are a wide range of recreational activities: swimming, horseback riding, hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, archery, as well as fine dining or simple, country eating. During the winter months, skiing is convenient. Lots to choose from or just relax and enjoy a sweet cabin in the woods.
Adventures Abound: From Washingtonian Magazine May 2006 - : 'The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.' 'Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun . You'll have your choice of the Lost River State Park, where the Hidden Trails Stables is located for horseback riding, archery, outdoor pool, tennis and a restaurant. Also nearby is the Trout Pond Recreation Area at the George Washington National Forest, with fishing, a gentle lake with a beach for swimming, lovely light walking or more serious hiking.
Local Restaurants and Shops: While we are a getaway, there are still local businesses to visit during your time in Lost River. Lost River has been a hidden gem where the LGBT community has been thriving for decades. The Guest House at Lost River has fine dining with a 40 seat restaurant and bar operating on weekends throughout the year. Lost River General Store offers crafts, lunch and ice cream for tourists on the shopping prowl. The Farmer's Market which is open on Saturdays with a coffee house/ food. We have a yoga studio open on the weekends. Lost River Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the year, as well as an evening bar with Karaoke on weekends. Twenty minutes away is the booming town of Wardensville, with Trading Post for gifts / art, fresh bakery & local produce from the Wardensville Garden Market and a new book store and art gallery.

About the host
Hosted by Gordon Cohen

I've owned this cabin since the 90's, raised my son here as a vacation home and our family used it exclusively until 2008. At that time, when we were no longer able to come to the cabin regularly we began renting it.. We've had wonderful guests and great responses to our cabin over the years. It's been a joy to share it with others. We started a major renovation of the property in January 2021 and the work has been completed. We are reopening the property for rentals beginning December 2021. Professional pictures will arrive in the Spring once the greenery returns.
What makes this property unique
While this cabin is in the mountains, we have a large yard which is perfect for kids running and playing or for your dog to enjoy the free space. There's a great view and a lot of useable land. We also have a new fire pit.
