The porch is wonderful! Very comfortable furnishings. Sits on a hill that makes the view, provides space for kids and dog to run. With two floors, the late talkers or early risers can have their space!
We recently stayed at lost River Swiss cottage. The owner was very responsive. The house was nice and comfortable and well stocked Kitchen with essentials. We truly enjoyed our stay. Would recommend the swiss cottgae.
This was a perfect location to get away and decompress. The screened in porch was comfortable even in the heat of the summer. The open property on the side of a mountain allowed for a great view of the stars at night. Within 30 minutes there is several state and national parks with great trails and walking around the property was safe and convenient.
The Swiss Cittage was larger than expected, very roomy! It was clean and comfortable, great for a weekend getaway or longer. Dinner at the nearby Guesthouse was delicious and quite elegant. There were lots of great hikes nearby, too.
The cottage is the perfect getaway for the holiday. It is spacious, cozy, and very well maintained with things like towels and cooking utensils. Our dog loved to run around on the grass. It is also very close to Lost River State Park for a nice hike. We will definitely come back if we get another chance!
The Lost River Swiss Cottage was a perfect getaway for a small group of friends. The cottage was clean with everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the owners were warm and welcoming. Especially loved visiting their farmer's market on Saturday and spending time with the community they've built. Can't wait to return.
Everything functioned as promised...my priorities...A/C, Kitchen, showers, beds/linens, cleanliness, and views...and access to activities...this chalet is awesome...we'll be back!
Great Fall Weekend in West Virginia - Property is not far from the DC area and well worth the trip. Property Manager is very accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend staying at this property. We will definitely be back.
This is our second stay at this property. We LOVE it here. The location, the view, the star gazing! The house itself is lovely and the newly enclosed deck area was perfect. I’ve already recommended it to friends of ours and we’ll definitely be back for a third visit!!
We are return visitors to the cottage, and it delivered once again. Great location, wonderful yard, clean house. We will be back again!

Thanks for the kind review and much appreciation for having chosen our Swiss Cottage for a return trip to the LRV. The Lost River Farmers Market, at the bottom of the hill, will be opening mid April. We have made improvements and there are some great changes to better serve the community. Hope to see you again soon.
We (a group of friends and one tiny dog) spent a lovely and snowy weekend in Bob and Tammy's cozy cabin. Anything we needed--extra blankets, coffee filters, a colander--was there, and Bob even stopped by to give us some advice about navigating the property through the snow. We could not have asked for better hosts or a more comfortable cabin. Without a doubt, we would stay here again! 10/10
We loved our stay at the cottage, and are repeat visitors. Great location, proximate to Guesthouse, Lost River state park, Lost & Found pizza, Vintage Variety, and they have a lovely farmers market/cafe at the bottom of the house on Saturdays. Would recommend to anyone. Fantastic valley view.
Wonderful base camp to explore the area. Comfortable, spacious, and clean. The farmers market and café at the bottom of the hill owned by the same folks as the cabin is also delightful. The only negative was that the water had a slight sulfur smell, so if that bugs you bring bottled water, but it wasn’t too bad. Would absolutely stay here again.
The house has been updated nicely especially bathrooms! Great view and the screened in porch is amazing! The location is fantastic, close to The Guesthouse and the farmer's s market too! If you are planning to cook a lot as we did, there is not a ton of counter space and no dishwasher.
This is the second time we have stayed here. The addition of the screened in deck was truly magnificent. We also discovered if you turn on WiFi calling in your settings you can use your cell phone for texting and calling even without cell service. We absolutely had the most relaxing week. We will be back.
This is the third time we have stayed here. The first two times was just my husband and I with our dog. The reason we chose this property to begin with was we could bring our dog with us. We have enjoyed our previous stays so much, this time our son and his wife and our 3 yr old grandson came along. They also brought their dog. There was plenty of room for all of us. The layout was great with a bedroom, bathroom and additional living room all on the lower level. This allowed us the ability to have our own quiet time when needed. It was a truly enjoyable week.
This property, location, and vibe was just perfect! My favorite thing about this charming and lovely house that accommodated two adults, four kids, and our 80 pound dog, was the super large screened in porch that overlooked the valley and the farmer's market. We started and ended our days in this room - coffee and books in the morning; dinner and board games in the evening, and then some amazing stargazing right before bed. The house is well stocked, cozy, with great beds, linens, and layout. We are definitely coming back to this house. One of our best family rentals in WV yet! Also, communication with Tammy was easy and swift. She graciously let us check in a bit early which really helped with our plans for the day. Thank you!
Had a wonderful long weekend with family at this wonderful mountain cottage. The house was incredibly clean, updated bathrooms, comfortable beds, and attention to small details like light fixtures and bedding. The location was pretty and within walking distance to the Saturday Farmers Market. The real star of this house is the large screened in porch with scenic views and a breeze. It was the perfect spot for morning coffee and evening happy hour. We did not even care when it rained a bit and the slight traffic down the hill was not bothersome as some reviewers had mentioned. Our hosts were great communicators and I felt very comfortable staying in their lovely home! Also, don’t miss dinner at the Guesthouse right down the road. Charming, eclectic, live music and the best soft pretzel that you can only get when seated at the bar.

Peaceful scenic cabin surrounded by rolling hills
Loved this cabin! The property is open and surrounded by rolling hills. Pets were allowed which was a huge plus and our dogs loved running up and down the hills. The interior of the cabin was perfect for our needs. Everything was in working order and they even had wifi and Apple TV! The only con to this rental was the amount of ladybugs that were inside the cabin. It may have been a 'time of year' thing, but we weren't able to get them out of the cabin no matter how hard we tried. They were coming back in through the windows and cracks...I've never seen so many ladybugs in one place! But overall, amazing stay!!! Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. I am happy you had a nice weekend. I do apologize for the lady bugs. They visit for just a few days twice a year. Late Spring and Late Fall. They appear out of nowhere and they are here for a few days and then they are gone. It is rather overwhelming when they arrive. Mother Nature has total control over when they arrive and when they leave. Thanks for visiting and we hope you will return as they are now totally gone (lol).
About the host
Hosted by Bob, David & Tammy
Bob Dillard came to Lost River over 35 years ago to help with the development of the Lost River Valley/Mill Gap area consisting of 2400 acres. Quickly realizing that he had fallen in love with the area, he built a log home from which he managed the Tuscarora Land Co office, as well as the old Green Valley Farms Dude ranch adjacent to his property. Later he developed his log home into The Guesthouse at Lost River. From this property Bob ran several other businesses throughout the years but concentrated mainly on real estate. He has built over three hundred cabins and homes and, with his partner David and business partner Tammy, developed three subdivisions in the Lost River Valley. Although the Guesthouse at Lost River has changed hands, Bob still maintains a Real Estate office in the Lost River Subdivision. David Mickow came to the Lost River Valley, first as a guest at The Guesthouse at Lost River. Within six months David had been bitten by the bug and moved permanently to Lost River, becoming a partner in the Guesthouse and quickly started working in real estate as well as the development of properties in the LRV. David is the expert in design, color and balance. He is the “go to” guy when you cannot deal with furniture placement or get hung up hanging up all that art work! He is the Broker for Pinnacle Realty of Lost River. Tammy Stanley is truly a Hardy County gem and from the LRV. Born at the local clinic and from a farming family that dates back centuries. She is the glue that binds this Troika. She has worked alongside Bob since 1980 and David for almost 19 years! Tammy has been involved in Bob’s ventures from the get go, having singlehandedly run most of the Guesthouse business as well as maintaining her own Personal Touch Massage Therapy. She has run this business from the Guesthouse for over 20 years. We look forward to our Lost River Guests
Why they chose this property
Location is stellar. Easy access from property via footbridge to Mill Gap for biking or running as well as direct access to gravel interior road for mountain biking or hiking Hommon Mountain adjacent to the Chalet. Only property in area with two converging streams that create a soothing background when relaxing on the deck. Easy 15 minute walk to the Lost River General Store. Only ten minute walk to a private fishing pond and hiking access to the George Washington National Forest. Less than two miles up Mill Gap towards Rock Cliff Lake is the Wolf Gap cut which is a 12 mile gravel road that is a gem for bikers who want peace, quiet and nearly non existent traffic. If you want to spend the day in the Lost River State Park, 20 minutes away, there is a beautiful pool in a spectacular wooded setting with changing rooms and an adjacent game room for all to enjoy. Hidden Trail Stables provides an excellent and fun way to see some of the incredible views of the Lost River Valley from the back of a very well behaved horse! If you would rather hike up 'Cranny Crow' or any of the other beautiful mountain trails at the State Park, there are maps and markers as well as Park Rangers to assist. This property is within 35 minutes of a launching area for tubing or canoeing the South Branch.
What makes this property unique
As I write about our property, and listen to the weather, I am reminded that even at 1700 ft. and located in the mountains, it still can get warm in the heat of the summer. Our property is unique in that it has central HVAC and a wonderful cool spring fed stream to put your in. Also, we offer a king bed room as well as a 2 queen beds for your sleeping comfort.
