The Space:

Cool mountain air drifts through the trees as you step onto the porch, the quiet broken only by the sounds of nature around you. Evenings invite you to sink into the hot tub while the crisp West Virginia night settles in, and inside, warm light fills the open living space as the indoor fireplace becomes the natural gathering point. The deck glows with string lighting, and the fire pit waits for s’mores under a sky of stars. Here you can slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the calm of a winter mountain escape.

Sleeping arrangements

Two private bedrooms accommodate up to four guests. The main‑level bedroom features a king bed, while the upper‑level bedroom offers a queen bed. A full bathroom serves both rooms, providing convenient access for couples, families, or a small group.

Living space

The bright, two‑story living area includes a loft that creates easy flow between relaxing, dining, and cooking. Comfortable seating surrounds the indoor fireplace, perfect for board games, movie nights on the Smart TV, or quiet conversation. Central heating keeps the space inviting after a day outdoors.

Kitchen & dining

A fully equipped kitchen provides everything you need to prepare meals, with a dining table that seats the whole party. Gather for shared meals, card games, or a warm cup of coffee while planning the day ahead.

Outdoor living

Step onto the spacious deck and patio to breathe fresh mountain air. Outdoor seating and a BBQ grill let you enjoy the surroundings when conditions allow. The fire pit offers a welcoming place to warm up, and the hot tub is available year‑round, especially inviting during colder weather.

Family & pet‑friendly touches

The home welcomes dogs and provides children’s books, toys, dinnerware, and board games for families. A private entrance and generous outdoor space add ease for little ones and four‑legged companions. Cats are not allowed due to allergies.

Location & surroundings

Located in Rio, West Virginia, the property sits about ten minutes from Bryce Resort and within easy driving distance of state parks, scenic trails, and small mountain towns. Winter visitors can enjoy peaceful drives, nearby hiking areas, and the quiet charm of the region without crowds.

Good to know

Wi‑Fi is included and works well for streaming and video calls, though speeds may vary due to the remote mountain setting. The natural environment means you may notice leaves or pollen on decks and walkways, especially in certain seasons.

Perfect for

Couples seeking a cozy winter retreat, families looking for space to unwind together, or a small group wanting a peaceful base near Bryce Resort. Whether you’re soaking in the hot tub under clear night skies or relaxing fireside indoors, the setting encourages rest, warmth, and time well spent.

We loved our stay here. Very quiet, pretty setting, great hot tub, comfy couch for relaxing. Keep in mind that the road to the house is gravel and very bumpy. Also note that the water has a strong sulfur smell, if you are sensitive to scents. Definitely recommend at stay here for a mountain weekend!

I live in DC with my wife and three young kids. I love camping/hiking, drinking (and sometimes brewing) great beer and wine, exploring new restaurants and shops, and traveling all over.

What makes this property unique

We spent years searching for the perfect getaway, and wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We fell in love with the area – and Red Feather Cottage in particular. We love how cute and cozy our cottage is, and all the fun outdoor activities we can enjoy year-round. :)
