Plumeria Cottage offers a vacation of ease indoors and out. Compact yet perfectly proportioned in the vintage beach style, it is a delightful combination of convenience and charm. And, with a roomy, sunny lanai and large shaded grassy yard, it becomes quite spacious. An outdoor-shower room with laundry and plenty of room for beach items and for drying wet towels and bathing suits keeps the indoors comfortable and relaxed. The nearby shoreline access is a short walk away. The cottage also has air conditioning.

There is another home on the property occupied by our long-term tenant & his dog. He will be very respectful of your privacy & quiet enjoyment of the home during your stay.

Such a sweet little cottage, beautifully appointed and maintained. Our host was very attentive to our needs (hardly any!). Puako is a hidden gem of a neighborhood, lining a lava beach with lots of tide pools and turtles. Short drives to sandy beaches and good restaurants, if you ever care to leave the cosy cottage (why?). Perfect for a relaxing couple’s getaway. The friendly geckos and chattering birdsong greeted us as we enjoyed our coffee on the porch, surrounded by plumerias and the sweetly framed peek-a-boo view of the ocean. We can’t wait to come back!

A very short walk to several beaches less than a mile along the beach to a great resort with dining and as few bars on the beach. Snorkeling up the beach. Second time staying and will be back for a third. Clean, comfortable, quiet and well stocked. 4 minute walk to excellent snorkeling. Lanai is spacious and outdoor shower is a treat.

Beautifully appointed.

This place is better than described or photographed. Lots of nice amenities and ample supplies of everything you might need. Lovely and comfy bed and linens. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower! Snorkeling and sunsets across the street was amazing! Only thing that would be great to add is bicycles! We will be returning!

Amazing and perfect cottage

I came for a conference and did not want to stay at the hotel ,boy did I make the right choice ! This cottage is absolutely charming and quiet,well stocked with everything you need to have a wonderful time! We cooked outside most nights and enjoyed different beaches every day. Lava Lava Beach club and the Hale bar at the Fairmont were really nice and both close to the water. We will definitely be back ! Thank you for sharing this wonderful property!

Located on a dead-end road and across from the beach, it was the perfect place to relax between snorkeling adventures. We particularly loved the outdoor shower and the spacious lanai. A welcome basket of Hawaiian goodies awaited us when we arrived, and Property Management checked in with us to ensure that we were enjoying our visit -- much appreciated. We would love to return!

Plumeria Cottage

Loved everything about this place! The location is great. We walked across the street to watch the sunset every evening, always a stunning show. The house was easy to live in, equipped with everything we needed. We spent a lot of time on the lanai which looks toward the ocean. There’s beach equipment, and the beaches are a very short drive from the house. There’s also a park at the end of the street where you can get in the water if you’re on the more adventurous side. The property managers are welcoming and responsive. This is our second time at Plumeria cottage and we hope to stay there again the next time we’re on the big island.

We stayed at the Plumeria Cottage the first week of May. The house is a little piece of heaven. If you haven't stayed in the Puako area, it's a real treat. However you have to book through 2papayas. I was given a price via e-mails and predicated expense dicissions based on given information. Later when we got our damage deposit back. It was less than what I was told was refundable. Wait to get things in writing before commiting with these people. note: vrbo site gives correct info on refunds. 2papayas website gives false info on refunds and so do they.

Aloha, this was an unfortunate case of miscommunication. The guest paid the usual $300 refundable damage deposit for this rental which was returned to him IN FULL in a timely manner. However, in a earlier email to him, I inadvertantly replied that we would soon be returning his "$500 " deposit so that is the amount he was expecting. When questioned, I promptly emailed him a copy of his signed contract along with a copy of his check, but he still felt certain I had somehow cheated him. We do have all our guests sign a contract upon booking the home and are happy to explain any charges. I am the owner of the company called "2 Papayas" and I advertise this home on vrbo as well on behalf of the homeowner. I have been in business for 4 years and a resident of the Big Island for 23 years.

Excellent location, cute cottage. The main reason I did not give a higher rating is that the host/owner is relying on the location alone to pull the entire desirability of the rental. For what they’re charging, I was disappointed with the overly compact space, and the “run down” feel in much of the interior. We only had enough space to open and place one large suitcase in the bedroom as the only thing that will fit is the bed. Screen door barely functional with holes in it. Curtains hard to use practically, as they don’t slide easily on the bamboo rods. It was a 10 minute project every morning and evening to draw the curtains. The walls were stained and/or dirty in many places and paint is chipped .. not updated in years. Decor feels cheap and overdone with some pieces that are torn and/or really old looking. From a cleanliness perspective, there is dust accumulated in less used but still visible places like higher surfaces/top of curtain rods etc. We had to accommodate an Orkin ant spraying in the middle of our stay (we were home at the time) because the place was infested. Although they were responsive to the problem, it really impacted our time there as they were EVERYWHERE

THE BEST rental experience

I was so impressed with this rental in so many ways - the quality of the furnishings, the variety of supplies and the abundance of stock. Towels galore, best stocked kitchen ever encountered and the comfort was beyond my expectation. The location is quiet and convenient to beach park, beach trail, stores, etc. I could have stayed much longer but with 2 weeks here I really got a long over due, relaxing vacation that rejuvenated me. The cottage has a very unique Hawaiian feeling that one doesn't find at the vacation condos available in abundance and that was what I was seeking....aloha. This is aloha. I've also been snorkeling for years and spend a good amount of years in Hawaii over the years but the snorkeling out of the Puako beach park was the best, bar none. And I could walk there! In addition, I've been renting from homeaway, VRBO and others for longer than I care to admit and have virtually always had good experiences but this beats them all hands down. Mary and the 2 Papayas staff made all the difference. I got an advanced call in the event there were questions, we were greeted at the property at a very late hour (and he was standing by the road with a flashlight waving me in for landing!), was delighted by the ripe papayas waiting for me along with the gift bag and their overall communication was so professional and friendly. I was very impressed and felt appreciated, not just another renter. Thank you Mary, Sean and owner - Bravo!

Pros: Beautiful property! Comfortable furniture & bed. Mini-split A/C in living room & bedroom worked very well. Ceiling fans in all the rooms. Tower floor fans helped w/air movement. Big indoor shower w/strong water pressure & quick hot water. Washer/dryer worked well & clothesline was a plus for hanging wet bathing suits. Quiet neighborhood. Two beach access points across the street where turtles abound! Random beach items & towels are available for your use. A nice hostess gift was left for houseguests. Good location for exploring the west side of the Big Island.Cons: kitchen & bathroom get rather warm as no A/C in them. Only one luggage rack; a second one would be helpful. Celling fan in bedroom is noisy when on higher speeds.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I highly recommend staying at the Plumeria Cottage if you are looking for a laid back experience away from the busier touristy locations. The cottage is located on a quiet residential street steps away from the ocean. Although the beach directly in front of the cottage is not ideal for swimming due to the volcanic rocks, it makes for an amazing sunset experience. It was also a popular place to see the sea turtles, so many! We enjoyed using the BBQ on the lanai daily, be sure to pick up your meat from Waimea Butcher Shop to support local and have unbeatable quality beef. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed and more with a well stocked kitchen, beach supplies, and toiletries. The outdoor shower was amazing with lush trees overhead. A few of our favorite things including grabbing poke bowls at Da Fish House and eating on 69's beach, hiking Pololu Valley and stopping at Gill's Lanai for the best fish tacos afterwards, and catching Kozy's Magic show! Truly and unforgettable trip, we are already looking to book our next stay at this amazing cottage.
