About this property

Newly Renovated Cute Cottage on Crooked Lake - aka, Baby Bear

This cottage has it's own dock, a newly added metal roof with skylights, and includes a canoe with the rental. Beautiful 600 sq/ft Trex deck built in the trees high above the lake. Large 2 acre lot, so lots of privacy.

Rental includes 5 watercraft at no additional charge. The breakdown is 2 kayaks, 2 fishing boats, and 1 canoe. The 8 ft fishing boat includes an electric motor. No mixing of oil/gas just charge it as needed.

Not handicapped excessable. Due to the hill it's located on, and the dock.

Located on Crooked Lake which is a no-wake lake, i.e., no jet ski's or fast boats. Great for fishing, canoeing and swimming! The house sits high on a hill overlooking the lake.

Sleeper sofa and inflatable mattress sleeps up to 6 people total. Master bedroom has a queen size bed. Fireplace, fire pit and a deck overlooking the lake. Water craft included at no extra charge.

Include all dished, pots and pans, linens, and towels.

Newly redone bathroom with a jet tub, all new fixtures, new window and drywall. Very clean, light and modern.

New wood flooring, new 49" HDTV TV, additional 38" HDTV for DVD's, 20 or so DVD to watch.

The entire reason that we wanted to stay here was because of the pictures that were shown. The boat dock was broken and blocked off. I brought my fishing poles because I wanted to go fishing off the dock. That was the entire reason that we chose this location. The boats that they showed in the photos were not entirely representative of what was offered. The new deck isn't new. The place was dirty. I've read reports that there were new owners. They definitely needed a new cleaning crew. The water jet bathtub was disgusting when we turned it on it had chunks that came out of it. The dual TV system that they said that they had is awkward. The dishes were dirty that were put away. It was hard to find anything. There was no book to welcome us and say, this is how we do things or what their expectation was. There was only a note on the fridge that said what time we had to be checked out by. And to do the laundry. There was no place to put trash so we just left it in the house. My wife was able to use one of the kayaks she enjoyed that. It would have been good to know where the life preservers were in one of the sheds. We had to go exploring for everything. The grill was nasty and I had to spend quite a bit of time cleaning it to be able to use it. I kind of expect this if you're borrowing your neighbors cottage if it wasn't for rent... But we paid to experience this... Needless to say we had to clean the house before we could enjoy it. Maybe I have expectations that are too high.

We arrived about an hour after check-in time, but had no code to get in. When I attempted to contact the host, the listed phone number was not in service. I had to call VRBO to get in touch with her, but was provided with her direct number. Once we got in, the inside is very nice. A cute cottage with a jetted tub. I was so excited! Stocked with spices, pots & pans, a coffee pot and a sparkling clean fridge. We walked onto the big deck out back and the views were breathtaking. The serenity there is unmatched. Unfortunately, the amount of pine needles and moss spores made it impossible to be barefoot, or to want to hold the hand rail going down the stairs. A few of the blocks making the 2nd half of the stairs are loose, so watch your step.The dock is wonky, but it will hold 500 lbs without worry. We didn't use the boat available as it had 6" of water in the bottom. Alas, we caught a few small fish off the dock, and a big bass broke my line. So there are fish to be caught!We didn't use the fire pit as it was full of spent wood and the area was overgrown and a bit cluttered with other water vessels. Back to the jacuzzi tub...all was well and good until I turned on the jets. The amount of dirt chunks that came out were gross. So were the dead moths on the windowsill. All in all, it was a good stay. The bed was comfortable, coffee was good, and we got the 48 hours of serenity we needed. Crooked lake is beautiful, Atlanta is charming.

Baby Bear was the 2nd of the 4 houses purchased in the Atlanta area. The 3 Bears are all next to one another and this one is in between Mama and Papa Bear. Goldilocks is on sandy Clear Lake 10 minutes north of the Bears.

While the smallest of the 4 homes, it has the most charm.

Why they chose this property

This house is often rented in conjunction with Papa Bear given it's location next door. This is great for family reunions or larger groups of friends and is discounted by 33% when rented as a group.

What makes this property unique

This Permalog home is very energy efficient - warm in the in the winter and cool in the summer with one small A/C unit. The new green metal roof with skylights add charm and really lights up the living room.

The new bathroom has a jet tub and was completely redone in 2012. The kitchen is fully stocked and the 49" HDTV has most all of the Direct TV channels including HBO and sports channels.
