Property was nice and peaceful. Was only able to stay through Saturday morning as a pipe broke in the bathroom. Had to shut off water to the house so house wouldn't flood and find and pay for a new place to stay. All happened the morning of the day we were having a celebration of life for my mom. Host was accommodating and let us leave our stuff there until later in the day. Good communication with host once I had cell service in town.
My husband, 3 kids (10, 9, 3) and I were looking for a more secluded place to stay but on water and this was the perfect fit and more! The fishing was great, beautiful sunsets and the sounds of the loons all day and night was so relaxing and enjoyable. We will be back again!
Great place, good Bass fishing. Sunsets are awesome.Love this rental, stay at least once a year. The privacy is nice, peaceful tranquility. Dean is a great host.See you next year if not sooner
It was a perfect little slice of heaven for us. The cabin was clean and fully stocked, but would benefit from some updates in the bathtubs/shower due to the tub flooring feeling a bit unstable. The lake and overall area is beautiful. We absolutely loved the place and the property host responded immediately when we reached out. We are very appreciative that Dean shared his property with us. We have already discussed returning for our next vacation, and hope to be back in the near future.
Loved being on the lake, sitting on the deck having coffee in the morning and watching the birds, enjoying a fire at night, and being in a great location to do some day-trips to see some sights. I've never been at a VRBO that had more items for us to use in their cupboards and closets- that was a lovely and generous surprise. We enjoyed trolling the lake in Dean's boat and we caught some nice bass from the dock in the evening. Thanks for having us!
Stayed August 10-13 with my son and had a nice weekend fishing and relaxing. My 4th time staying here. Quiet lake had a few Loons on the lake on one day plus variety of birds to see.
Keurig coffee maker is convenient for a quick cup of coffee.
The cottage was exactly as described and pictured. The kids (6,9,13) loved the sandy beach area and catching minnows by the dock. The adults loved having coffee and relaxing on the deck. This lake is full of bass and crystal clear. The few times (only 2 or 3 times the whole week) others were on the lake with pontoons or jet skis they were so respectful. We will definitely plan on returning.
The cabin was clean and well stocked. The window A/Cs worked well for the hot days. We came to fish but unfortunately did not catch a single fish from the dock nor out and about on the lake. The flies were biting pretty badly. But neither of those things are the owner's fault. It was nice using the paddle boat and rowboat. The views of the lake were beautiful. Nice secluded area.
Beautiful sunsets, quiet relaxing private. Love this rental, never disappointed. I've been going to Dean's place for many years.Fishing is good, large mouth Bass everywhere. Clean clear lake, boat's are a definitely a plus.Alredy looking forward to next year
Love this place.Been vacationing here for about 5 years.Secluded property, great sunsets. If fishing is your thing the bass are everywhere. If not, have a drink on the patio watch the sunset. Cozy up in the living room for a nice fire. Dean is a great host. Definitely going back next year,Thanks Dean
This was the second year we stayed in Dean's cabin during our anniversary (55th) week. We had lovely weather this year but for some unknown reason we had poor fishing success. We did make a return trip to Hartwick Pines that just projects beauty and calmness, especially after the summer season. On our last day we discovered Aspen Park inside Gaylord. What a surprise. It has lovely paved paths throughout a beautiful large forest It is a delightful park and you do not have to go far to find it. It is not far from Jay's. We hated to leave Gaylord, but that is the way with short vacations.

This was my second time renting this beautiful property. Thank you Dean for making this available for rent. If I don't make it back next year. I would definitely like to in the near future. The worst thing about staying here is leaving.
Cabin was super clean. View was amazing. There are plenty "sightseeing " spots to travel to for raining days. For cabin days, relax on the deck by the fire. Look at the night sky from the paddle boat or row boat. This cabin was amazing!
It is a basic in the woods property. The online listing is exactly what it is. My family enjoy being away from everything. Our main activities were fishing and doing puzzles that were there for guests. Yes, it is dated, but that was true to the pictures.
Unfortunately, illness in the family prevented my brother & his wife from joining us at the cabin. So we did not get to do a lot of things we had planned to do together. And being on the "senior" side of life and alone, the boat, paddleboat and canoe did not get used at all while we were there. However, we are "desert rats" from Arizona and we took a lot of pleasure in sitting on the deck overlooking lovely Douglas Lake, watching the animals and the other folks enjoying the lake. We did some fishing from the dock and caught some beautiful bass and a massive bluegill! So, while it was disappointing not to have our family with us, this was a beautiful place to be isolated in. Thank you, Dean!
We have stayed at this property several times and it has always been absolutely fabulous. The host is wonderful to work with, quickly responds with great detailed information. Property is clean and well stocked. We can’t wait to go back!
It was a very nice place to relax love the lake and that it was just enough out of the way we had a great time even did some exploring would definitely recommend if you enjoy the out doors and nature
Wonderfully private, secluded fishing cottage. Good fishing for the hubby and a peaceful place for the wife to do some sewing. This was our second visit and we'd be happy to come again!
Like several other reviewers we also celebrated our anniversary while at the cabin...our 54th! We were delighted with the lovely quiet lake and had some fishing success catching bass. In spite of having about
2 1/2 days of rain we took several hikes at the Groen nature center and at beautiful Hartwick pines as well as took several scenic drives nearby. It was nice to return to the cabin.
We didn't mind staying inside during the rain, which was "entertaining to watch through the large windows. We read, watched a little t.v. and even took a few naps, which is a vacation joy. The cabin has a great layout and has a "roomy" feel to it, never to feel cramped. We had a short-lived problem that Dean immediately solved for us over the phone. Thanks Dean. Yes, the cell phone did work sometimes, usually while standing on the dock. We had a fabulous anniversary dinner at Bennethum's in Gaylord (pricey but worth it) and a good hamburger lunch at Talley's in Lewiston. Some rain and wind and lowish temperature kept us out of the water but we had enjoyable times on it or looking at it. Lovely sunsets. We hope to return.

My parents first purchased this property from a family member in 1979. For many years, it was their retirement destination throughout the summer. With their passing, my sister and I have owned this property and cabin for the past 20 years. With our year-around homes some distance away, we don't have the opportunity to vacation here as much as we'd like to. However, several of our cousins live close by. Thus, still, we find ourselves staying there for a couple weeks or so during most summers. We love every visit!
What makes this property unique
I can honestly, objectively state that we own THE premier property on Douglas Lake! The sunsets are gorgeous. Fog often rises off the the water in the early morning. At that time, and at dusk, the water is like glass, making it perfect for kayaking or canoeing. We're often visited by chipmunks, ducks, loons, wild turkeys, herons, and an occasional bald eagle flying overhead.
