About this property

Perfect River Retreat-located directly on the Withlacoochee River

THE RETREAT

Nestled in a quiet friendly neighborhood in Dunnellon, this cozy Florida retreat will be your home away from home. The home is located on a small canal off the Withlacoochee River.

Enjoy beautiful views of the river from the spacious upper and lower back porches where you can view beautiful cypress trees, waterfowl, turkeys, and other wildlife. The peaceful Florida nights can be enjoyed around our fire pit and lighted dock after having dinner at our local favorite spot “Stumpknockers on the River” located 5 minutes down the road.

A corn hole game set is also available for your enjoyment.

FISHING/BOATING

The Withlacoochee River is the perfect place to fish for largemouth bass and a variety of pan fish. Fish from the dock or bring your boat. We have a large yard so there is plenty of space to park a boat trailer during your stay. The Withlacoochee River Boat Ramp is located just . 2 miles up the street for small boats and easy kayak launching. For larger boat launching use Spruce Boat Ramp located 1.6 miles down the street. Additional boat ramps are in the area for launching at different locations in Dunnellon.

KAYAKING/PADDLEBOARDING

Don’t forget to bring your kayaks and paddle boards to enjoy the wonderful Nature that the Withlacoochee has to offer.

BIKING/HIKING/WALKING

Biking, hiking or walking you’ll be sure to enjoy the many outdoor trails. The Dunnellon Trailhead is located at CR 39 and U.S. 41 and is a paved path crossing the Withlacoochee River and running along side Rainbow River to Hwy 484 at the Blue Run Park a great trail to see many species including Alligators. There are also many other trails in the area to explore.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

The location of this home is the perfect spot to enjoy many outdoor activities, wildlife encounters, and amazing local seafood.

Rainbow River is a 9 mile drive (45 minute by boat) and is a 72 degree year round crystal clear spring feed river that runs 6 miles and flows into the Withlacoochee River where paddleboarding, kayaking and tubing can be enjoyed. With great restaurants including Swampys and the Blue Gator.

Crystal River is a coastal city which is another great spot 20 miles away. Kings Bay is Crystal River’s headwaters which has more than 70 springs which include Three Sisters Springs and Hunters Springs and flows out into the Gulf of Mexico. Here you can enjoy many activities including swimming with the Manatees, paddleboarding, kayaking, and boating. Here you will find lots of great Locally caught seafood that is amazing , our favorites include The Crab Plant and Seafood Seller.

Not as advertised
The location was quiet on a very small canal. A few ibis feeding in the back yard. Other birds singing in the am. Nice porch overlooking the small backyard and canal. No coffee filters and could not get the coffee maker to work properly. Dark inside the cabin with insufficient lighting. Cabin is advertised as 2-bedrooms, but only has one bedroom and a pullout sofa in the living room. More importantly, the TV is a disaster. You must have subscriptions to Netflix, Hula, etc to watch almost anything. Very disappointing. Wanted to watch the NCAA playoffs. Could not. Could not watch CNN or other major news networks. Owners need to let guest know in advance that TV is unavailable w/o paid subscriptions Bathroom was clean Washer/dryer worked good Had to drive to a locale Circle K to get coffee in the morning Small coffee pods in the cabin produced terrible coffee, If you could get the coffee maker to work

Living in a tree house
We had a beautiful time- the first day even though raining was magical we opened the window blinds and we felt like we were in the trees with the squirrels. The second day was on the River but coming back to our little retreat was so warm and welcoming. We are all ready talking about when can we go back. It was a perfect time to be in area not to many tourists there and River was quite.

A dream!
Me and my Husband have never stayed overnight in Dunnellon before. Normally we just go to Rainbow river for the day and have to drive the long haul back the same day. That being said we have never had the chance to explore how beautiful the whole area is! And how sweet and amazing the local people and restaurants are! We felt like we were “home” all weekend long. This house was so extremely cozy and tucked away with a perfect view of the river right when you wake up in the mornings. We almost didn’t need to pack anything accept clothes food and water because they provided pretty much everything else for their guests. The washer and dryer was such a help after being on the river all day, they provided lots of shampoo and conditioner along with body wash. Lots of Coffee and creamer for the mornings (one of my favorite things was sitting on the porch drinking coffee when the sun was rising to look at how beautiful the surroundings were.) It’s perfect location for out of towners to easily and quickly get to rainbow river, crystal springs or kayak down to Blue Springs all in only 2 days! The hosts were so helpful with any and all questions we had about the area. They also gave great suggestions for things we could do for the days we were there. We plan on coming back all of the time! We travel a lot and this was definitely one of our favorite vacations we have been on together! We will start calling this place our home away from home! Hope to come back as soon as possible!!
