About this property

THE HENDEL HOUSE - COLONIAL DOWNTOWN LANCASTER

Built in 1794, and located in Lancaster’s historic district, the ‘Hendel House” takes it’s name from the colonial period of when the famed Hendel family set down roots along the 100 block of E. Chestnut St. This fully equipped apartment home includes 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a gourmet kitchen, fireplace, 2-off street parking spaces, professional landscaping, and is located a short walk to downtown shops, Lancaster's Central Market, the convention center and more!
The ‘Hendel House’ is a spacious, downtown apartment home on the grounds of one of Lancaster’s most prestigious, private city gardens. The space hints to a past when things were simpler while highlighting the creature comforts one demands of today's modern spaces. The family room fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere for gatherings, and the gourmet kitchen is spacious, bright and inviting. Bedrooms and the upper loft area are both inviting and include high quality mattresses and linens to ensure a peaceful night's rest. The home is equipped with a smart TV and Xfinity high speed internet to provide travelers the assurance of staying connected. The shared outdoor area is professionally landscaped, has picturesque city views, and allows guests to interact with other travelers, yet equally provides plenty of space for a more intimate travel experience. The home is filled with afternoon light throughout and offers enough space for eight guests to enjoy comfortably. The home is professionally cleaned and cared for, and our team is readily available to ensure your experience in staying with us is the absolute very best.

Commissioned in 1949 and named after Lancaster’s umbrella handle tycoon Henry Musser, the park is a local favorite that includes plenty of open space, a children’s play area and the Lancaster Museum of Art. The location is highly walkable to Lancaster’s central market, the convention center, and most downtown area shops and restaurants.
The 'Hendel House' has a walk-score of 98, so for those who love an adventure walk - Lancaster is a foot warriors dream! In addition, Lancaster has a network of bike paths with mindful motorists and clearly marked bike lanes throughout the city. The city is inter-connected by rivers, parks, and side alleyways that are sure to leave a lasting impression. For those looking to travel by car, you’ll appreciate the lack of traffic often found in larger metropolitan cities. If you take a car, be mindful of our local horse carriages and buggies often found traveling throughout our community and back-country roads.
The home is 420/smoker friendly, but in outside areas only, at least ten feet away from windows and doors.

Property was somewhat run down
The property was ok and had the quirky charm of a very old home. However, the place was a little run down, and could use many repairs. Here are some of the repairs required: At least 4 lights did not work; Exposed wiring in kitchen cupboard; Peeling paint on livingroom ceiling; Broken door knob on 2nd floor bathroom door; Trash cans and garbage next to front door. Additionally, the neighborhood was kind of sketchy, with quite a few unhoused walking the street in front of the property.

Beautiful house
Nice homey feel in the historic district. Close to everything Lancaster has to offer. The house was very roomy to have privacy, but also had nice areas to gather together. The courtyard was quite the haven.

Great location
A beautiful house in a great part of historic downtown. Very close to many great things; a great coffee shop just around the corner, a 10 minute walk to many great restaurants. The only thing to note is that there is an attached apartment/house in the back that you can hear very clearly, with a very tiny lock dividing the two spaces. They weren’t a bother, but it would have been nice to know to expect that. Worth it though! I would rent this house again. Oh, and a beautiful yard behind the house!!! Another plus, two off street parking spaces behind the house.
